Nottingham Forest face Swansea at the City Ground at 7.45pm on Thursday 12th May and a day later Reading host Cardiff at the Madejski Stadium at 7.45pm Friday 13th May in the first-leg semi-finals of the Championship play-offs. Place a bet on one of those teams to be promoted through the play-offs and if they are knocked out via penalties, Victor Chandler will refund your losing stake as a free bet.

Nottingham Forest are back in the play-offs after finishing in 6th spot with 75 points. This is familiar territory for the club, having been in the same position last year, where they were beaten twice by Blackpool. Forest have a decent home record this season and will be confident of going into the second-leg in a good position, especially after recording a 3-1 victory against Swansea at the City Ground earlier this season. Swansea have had a cracking season, but will nonetheless feel disappointed at finishing 3rd, just four points behind automatically promoted Norwich. If Swansea can snatch a draw they will be confident of progressing through to the final.

Reading are arguably the play-offs most in-from team after putting together a scintillating run of eight straight league wins from late February to late April, and five points from their last four games was enough to ensure 5th position and a play-off place. Cardiff have been in contention for an automatic play-off place all season, and like their fierce rivals Swansea, will be disappointed at missing out. Cardiff have been stuck in the Championship since 2003, and after many near misses, they will feel that this year is as good as any to finaly make the step up to the big time.

Victor Chandler have Swansea as the favourites to reach the Premier League at 9/4, while Reading and Cardiff are 13/5 to go up and Nottingham Forest are priced at 3/1.

The finalists for the Coca Cola Championship playoffs finals have been confirmed following the games between Nottingham Forest and Blackpool and Leicester and Cardiff and to some surprise Blackpool and Cardiff have emerged as finalists’. This has brought heart ache again for Nottingham Forest who finished 3rd in the Championship table and narrowly missed out promotion and in 2007 missed out on promotion to the Championship from League One in similar circumstances.

The two teams will face each other this coming Saturday 22nd May at 15:00 from Wembley Stadium, and can be watched live on Sky Sports or if you are in the Cardiff area on large screen televisions in Cardiff Bay with 7,000 other Bluebird fans!

Cardiff are the marginal favourites to win this tie although when both teams played each other this season each of the two games (home and away) have resulted in a 1-1 draw. Hopefully with the excitement of a Wembley fixture the result of the game will be much more exciting and we could even look to see a result to the game in 90 minutes and therefore avoid the tedium of extra time and worse still a penalty shootout.

Backs are sure being patted all around the Newcastle United boardroom following the club achieved promotion back to the Premiership on its first attempt. The Magpies promotion was secured following their 2-1 win against Sheffield United over the Easter bank holiday weekend, United are now guaranteed to finish either as Champions or at very least runners up.

The current owner of Newcastle United Mike Ashley (the man behind Sports Direct) will now be glad that he could find a buyer for his club after he put them on the market following relegation to the Coca Cola Championship last year. He had at first touted the club for around the £300 million mark but later reduced this to a bargain £80 million, which is now sure to increase now they have access to Premiership money.

Magpies manager Chris Hughton along with his assistant Colin Calderwood have succeed in getting his Newcastle side to gel and has had the full support of the Toon Army during their tenure in the Championship. However will this be enough to keep United in the Premiership, during the close season will they spend their windfall on building up the squad or will they just be happy to take a year of Premiership money followed by the four years worth of parachute payments now on offer which is thought to be worth around £100 million.

Tonight’s Coca Cola Championship fixture sees two of the top three teams facing each other in what will be an important result for Billy Davies side. Forest travel to St James Park for the 19:45 kick off that can be watched live on Sky Sports. Forest managed to beat Newcastle 1-0 back in October in and they will be looking to do the double in this reverse fixture.

Click here to place your Championship bet with Victor Chandler

Chris Hughton’s Newcastle side are currently riding the top of the Champions on 80 points, closely followed by West Brom who could have gone top if they had beating Reading at the weekend. Forest are 9 points off the automatic promotion slot so beating Newcastle will keep them still in contention for an automatic spot.

If promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest manage to beat current league leaders Newcastle then Victor Chandler will refund all of the losing bets placed on the match for you to use as a free bet.

Forest have shown an inconsistent form of late, winning at the City ground but losing away from home, they have lost their last 6 away games against teams that on paper they should easily have beat, the last away win was in January ironically against West Brom beating them 3-1, but defeats against Coventry, Derby, Barnsley and Preston have cost them dearly.

Match odds
Forest’s poor away form is reflected in their odds for winning tonight’s match.
8/11 – Newcastle win
7/2 – Forest win
13/5 – Draw

Two Premiership clubs both suffering from something of an early season crisis meet at St James’ Park on Wednesday night in the Carling Cup third round clash between Newcastle and Spurs, which is live on Sky Sports. Newcastle and Spurs have had nothing short of disasterous starts to the Premier League season, with both clubs occupying the bottom two places in the league table with only one win in ten games between them. Spurs are probably the bigger surprise to be languishing at the foot of the table given several big summer signings they made, which result them being the bookmakers favourites to finish highest in the betting without the big four, with many pundits even tipping them to finish in a Champions League place. However, things haven’t gone quite according to plan for Juande Ramos and there is already talk of him leaving the club less than twelve months in to his tenure. In contrast, it is off the field activities that have impacted on Newcastle’s on field performances. Current owner, Mike Ashley, has alredy made it clear that he intends to sell the club and former boss, Kevin Keegan left following his concerns over the club’s transfer policy. As a result, the Newcastle fans have undertaken fierce demonstration against the current state of affairs.

Both clubs will be looking upon Wednesday’s Carling Cup tie as an opportunity to get back to winning ways with Spurs the favourites to do just that at odds of 6/4 to win the match with bookmaker Paddypower. Newcastle are 13/8 and the draw is 12/5. Spurs should be the more likely winners given their players should be good enough to capitalise on Newcastle’s current plight, which shows no sign of ending soon.

If you are planning to have a bet on this game, Paddypower are offering a ‘tongue in cheek’ special offer “can’t win, won’t win” where they will be refunding any first or last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast bets is either side leads at half time but fails to win in 90 minutes
