Longchamp Racing Tips
October 2, 2008
Sunday’s card at Longchamp is one of the most prestigious racing meetings of the annual European racing calendar. The feature race is the Prix l’Arc de Triomphe but their are also several other quality races on the card, with no fewer than five Group One races at one meeting in one day. Below, we preview each of the big races and the likely winners.
Prix De L’Abbaye
The Prix DeL’Abbaye is a Group One race run over five furlongs, it is a chance for the best sprinters around to come together to do battle, British horses have a particularly good record in this race and several trainers have once again sent their horses across the channel attempting to win this race. However, the pick of the bunch is the French horse, Marchand D’or, the Freddie Head trained runner has had a remarkable season already with three Group wins to his name and whilst he has only ever run once over this minimum trip before, he should have too much for his rivals.
Prix Marcel Boussac
This two year race over one mile has thrown up some big name winners down the years and another classic winner could well emerge from this field. Several of the runners appear to hold solid claims but the French horse, Elusive Wave looks the pick based upon his three wins so far this season with Jim Bolger’s Maoineach another to keep a close eye and could well be a classic contender come next season.
Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere
This race is another two year old event over the shorter trip of seven furlongs. Aidan O’Brien has five runners entered ad therefore, it would be difficult to look beyond the man who has trained the winner six times in the past ten years. Mastercraftsman is the pick of the Ballydoyle contingent and is already favourite for next year’s 2000 Guineas whilst another O’Brien runner in Rip Van Winkle also looks set to run a big race.
Prix L’Arc De Triomphe
The feature race of the day looks set to be a battle between the potential super-filly, Zarkava, and the Aidan O’Brien duo of Duke of Marmalade and Soldier of Fortune. O’Brien won the race last year with Dylan Thomas and in he has a pair this year equally as likely to land first prize, preference of the pair would be for Duke of Marmaladee, who has been near perfect when winning all five starts this season. However, Duke of Marmalade may well meet his match at Longchamp in Zarkava, a Filly that has yet to be beaten on a racecourse in six starts and shows no signs of slowing down when it comes to progress. The stats don’t read too well, with the last filly to win the race coming in 1993 and Zarkava having never raced against Colts in her career, however, it is worth ignoring the stats and concerntrating on the known fac that she is very classy and looks more than capable of confirming her favourtie tag.

CFR Cluj v Chelsea Champions Legaue Betting Odds
September 29, 2008
Chelsea travel to Transylvania on Wednesday to face, European unknowns CFR Cluj, however, these unknowns defeated Roma away in the opening game of Champions League Group A and Chelsea will be well aware that they have their work cut out to beat the Romanian champions. The majority of bookmakers have priced Chelsea as the short priced favourites to win, with William Hill as short as 1/3, whilst Boylesports are a little more generous and offer 1/2 that the Blues can get the win. Bet365 and Skybet offer the best odds on Cluj victory, both offering 15/2 about what would be another shock.
Didier Drogba is back from injury and he is 9/2 with bet365 to score the first goal of the game and what would be his first of the season. A Chelsea 2-0 victory is the favoured scoreline at odds of 5/1 but a 1-0 win (11/2) would surely please the Blues and may be the score to place a bet on.

Wigan v Man City Betting Offer
September 26, 2008
Wigan welcome Man City to the JJB Stadium on Sunday and with this game live on Sky Sports, there is sure to be plenty of betting interest as punters tune in to watch a Man City side eager to make an impact on the Premier League’s top four following their recent take over. All eyes will be once again on Robinho who has scored two goals in two league starts for the Blues and is a 13/2 chance with Bet365 to score the first goal on Sunday. Fellow Brazillian, Jo, has also showed signs that he is hitting goal scoring form and he is 11/2 to open the scoring in this match.
Whilst most people will be expecting City to win this match, Wigan should not be underestimated. They have a number of good players and more than capable of upsetting the visitors. Wigan are 2/1 to win the match and that is sure to make plenty of appeal for some punters. Man City are likely to feature on many coupons at odds of 11/8 and the draw is 23/10. Amr Zaki is the main goalscoring threat for Wigan, having netted four goals in Wigan’s opening five league games and the Egyptian forward could well be worth a couple of quid to score the first goal of this game at 6/1.
Bet365 refund all correct score, half time/full time and scorecast bets if any game finishes 0-0.

Portsmouth v Spurs Premier League Betting Offer
September 26, 2008
The first game of Sunday’s live Sky Sports double header sees Portsmouth take on Spurs at Fratton Park where both sides will be look at this game as an opportunity to kick start their season. Portsmouth will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 6-0 hammering at the hand of Man City, whilst Spurs are still searching for their first league win of the season but will be bouyed by a midweek Carling Cup victory away to Newcastle.
Both these sides had been tipped to challenge for top six finishes at the start of the season, but neither have shown early signs of living up to such expectations. However, both have the players capable of winning this match, which has the potential for a potentially exciting encounter. Portsmouth are the narrow 5/4 favourites with Betfred to take the three points from this game, with Tottenham a 7/4 chance and the draw 9/4.
Jermain Defoe is the 11/2 favourite to score the first goal against his former club on Sunday, which is sure to prove a popular. Fellow Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch is a 6/1 chance as too are the Spurs striking partnership of Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko.

Everton v Liverpool Merseyside Derby Betting Offer
September 25, 2008
It is the first Merseyside Derby of the season on Saturday, as Everton welcome neighbours Liverpool to Goodison Park. With the game live on Sky Sports (12:45 kick off) this clash is sure to be a popular betting event and bookmakers Paddy Power have installed Liverpool as the 11/10 favourites to win the game with Everton 5/2 and the draw is 11/5.
Everton have lost their first two home games, conceeding six goals in the process. Therefore, David Moyes will be hoping that the age old cliche about ‘form going out of the window in dery games’ is true as he looks to get his Everton side back to winning ways. Liverpool have started the season well and remain unbeaten after five games, lying just one point behind leaders Arsenal.
In recent years, the Merseyside Derby game at Goodison Park has been a happy hunting ground for Liverpool, winning six of the last eight encounters, whilst Everton have only taken six points from their rivals on home turf in eight years. Another interesting stat is that seven of the last eight meetings at Goodison have seen three or more goals scored in the game which makes the even money with paddypower.com about this trend continuing look like a good value bet.
The Paddypower cashback offer for this game is if either Tim Cahill or Steven Gerrard score the last goal in this game then they will refund all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast bets on the match.
Fernando Torres is the favourite to be the first goalscorer at odds of 9/2 with Robbie Keane second favourite at 13/2 to get both the first goal of this game and first goal in a Liverpool shirt. Everton’s biggest goal threat comes in the form of Yakubu who is 7/1 to give the Blue half of Merseysdie the lead.

Joe Cole and Wayne Rooney Betting Offer
September 19, 2008
The Betfred offer for Sunday’s Chelsea v Man Utd betting is a refund on all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast bets place on the game if either Wayne Rooney or Joe Cole scores the last goal of the game.
Both players head into the game in good form, having netted whilst on International duty last week but it is Cole of the two that has already scored in the Premiership this season with Rooney still waiting to get his tally up and running. Rooney is a 15/2 chance to score the last goal with Betfred.com whilst Joe Cole is 10/1 to do the same. With so much talent on the pitch for both teams, the goals could come from just about any of the 20 outfield players but if you do plan to have a bet on this game then such an offer is worth considering as it does provide a certain amount of insurance. Although the Paddypower Offer on this game, where they will be refunding bets if a player is sent off is more appealing.

Bolton v Arsenal Premier League Betting Offer
September 19, 2008
Bolton v Arsenal is the live Setanta game on Saturday afternoon (17:30 kick off) in a match that both managers will want to win for differing reasons. Arsene Wenger will be looking to maintain his side’s good start to the season and consolidate their position in the top four with a fourth Premier League win in five games. In contrast, Bolton boss Gary Megson will be desperate to make home advantage count as his side try to get as many points on the board early in the season to avoid a relegation battle further down the line. Wanderers have secured all four of their Premiership points at the Reebok Stadium having been beaten twice on the road. Whilst Arsenal are the understandable 4/7 favourites with Betfred to win this game, Bolton will be bouyed by their recent results against the Gunners at the Reebok, having won three of the last four Premier League encounters between the sides in Lancashire. Megson’s side can be backed at 9/2 to upset the odds with the draw a 12/5 chance.
The majority of bets being placed on this game will no doubt centre around the Arsenal victory with the correct score betting favouring a 1-0 away win as the most likely result. However, Arsenal do have plenty of attacking options and a bigger winning margin may be a more worthwhile bet and a 3-0 makes plenty of appeal at 10/1, while a second 4-0 away win in consecutive weeks is chalked up as a 25/1 chance with Fred Done odds.
In the first goalscorer market, it is no surprise to see last week’s hat-trick hero, Emmanueal Adebayor, as the 7/2 favourite with Robin Van Persie a 4/1 chance, Cesc Fabregas 8/1 and the in-form Theo Walcott is sure to be popular at 7/1.
If Theo Walcott scores the last goal in this game, Betfred will refund all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast bets.

Ayr Gold Cup Betting Tip and Each Way Extra Place Offer
September 19, 2008
The Ayr Gold Cup is the feature race of this Saturday’s (20th September) horse racing action. The six furlong handicap is well known for being a big betting event and competitive race; it has thrown up several big price winners down the years, with the favourite having only won once in 20 years, back in 1996, when Coastal Bluff won the race at odds of 3/1 for trainer David Barron. Barron does not train the favourite in this year’s race but he does run Skhilling Spirit, and despite being a 33/1 shot, it would be no surprise to see another outsider in the winners enclosure.
Favouritism for the 2008 Ayr Gold Cup is currently shared between last year’s winner, Advanced and Confuchias who are both available at 8/1. Both have come in for big support in the last few days but with the ground heavy, it may be worth siding with Confuchias as he does have winning form on bottomless going. Valery Borzov is another with form in testing conditions and looks to be coming in to form judged on his last two runs and is a fiar price at 10/1. Trainer David Nicholls has an exceptional record in this race, having won it four times in the past ten years. The Yorkshire trainer has six of the declared 27 runners on Saturday and Tajneed looks the pick of his string, having been backed from 14/1 into 10/1 with Paddy Power over the last couple of days. However, the Free Bets Blog tip for the race comes in the form of a 25/1 outsider, Ishetoo and aims to take advantage of Paddypower’s enhanced place terms for the race. The Alan Dickman trained gelding has done most of his running over five furlongs, but has some solid pieces of form on heavy ground over the Ayr Gold Cup disance. He has been running consistently better than his official rating suggests for over twelve months now and a bold bid can be expected to at least make the frame. This selection is a solid each way bet and Paddypower.com are paying each way terms on the first five horses (the other bookmakers only offer four places) home so this is certainly the best place get value money.

Chelsea v Man Utd Odds and Betting Offer
September 18, 2008
Chelsea v Man Utd is arguably the biggest game of the Premier League season, the only other game that challenges it is when Man Utd welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford. Sunday’s game at Stamford Bridge is sure to be a big betting event as it will be the first time that the two sides have met since that eventful night in Moscow back in May, when Man Utd won the Champions League final on penalties. Depsite a new manager in the form of Phil Scolari taking his place in the Stamford Bridge hot seat, the Blues are sure to be out for revenge and take poll position in the Premier League title race.
Before the season kicked off, bookmakers could not split Man Utd and Chelsea in the betting for who will be crowned Premiership Champions 2008/2009. However, after a somewhat slower start than their London rivals, Manchester United have drifted in the betting, leaving Chelsea as the clear favourites. Paddypower currently make Chelsea the 10/11 favourites to win the league after winning three and drawing one of their opening four Premier League fixtures. In contrast, Man United have been pushed out to 5/2 following just one win from their opening three matches. Despite it being very early days, Chelsea will see this game as a great opportunity to move nine points clear of their rivals and are favourites to win the game at odds of 5/4. United are 11/5 to register their first win at Stamford Bridge since April 2002 and the draw is a 21/10 chance.
Bookies are predicting that it will be a close game and the favourite correct score is a 1-1 draw at 9/2 with a 1-0 home win is considered the next most likely outcome at 5/1. In the first goalscorer betting, Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka head the betting at 6/1 for either to open the scoring. Man Utd are likely to welcome back Cristiano Ronaldo from injury and he is a 13/2 chance to bag the first goal on his return to the side, new signing Dimitar Berbatov is also a 13/2 chance with Lampard a 15/2 chance and Wayne Rooney 8/1.
If you plan to have a bet on this game Paddypower will be refunding all losing first/last goalscorer, correct scorer and scorecast bets if a red card is shown at any time during the match.
