Manchester United are the favourties to progress to FA Cup semi finals ahead of Arsenal

March 10, 2011

If this games was a Premier League fixture it would no doubt be the biggest match of either teams season as they are both clambering to be crowned Premier League Champions, however they must put their title aspirations to one side when the sides face each other on Saturday in the sixth round FA Cup tie at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have been named the favourites by the bookies, boosted by having the home advantage but following their two game run of defeats in the Premier League and Arsenals recent rejuvenation which has seen Arsene Wenger’s side close the gap in the Premier League to be second in the table. Here at freebetsblog.com we are going to go for the attractive away win which is currently showing odds of 3/1.

Odds on who will be crowned Premier League champions is all open again

March 7, 2011

After an exciting weekend of football the race to be crowned the Premier League champions has once again been opened after Manchester United have once again stumbled.

A month ago it looked as if Sir Alex Ferguson’s side had the 2010/11 Premier League title all sewn up but after they recent losses against bottom of the table Wolves at the beginning of February and more recently the loss against Chelsea things had started to look shaky for the side then at the weekend United once again succumbed to a loss this time against Liverpool which has given Arsenal the opportunity to catch up with United. Wenger’s side are now just 3 points behind United with a game in hand if they had not drew against Sunderland at the weekend and lost out on 2 points they would be even closer.

United are still odds on to win the title but bookies Stan James have cut them from 1/2 to 8/11, Arsenal have moved from 13/8 to 9/4 whilst Chelsea have been cut from 10/1 down to 8/1 whilst Manchester City are very much an outside chance still being around the 25/1 mark.

Can Liverpool beat Manchester United and open up the Premier League title race?

March 2, 2011

Manchester United took a big dent to their title ambitions when they lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last night and Sir Alex Ferguson was furious with the referees decisions that he believed cost his team a vital 3 points. Ferguson believes that the referee failed to run the game properly by not sending off David Luiz for a foul against Wayne Rooney which would have led to a second yellow card and that referee Martin Atkinson should not have given penalty when Chris Smalling fouled Yuri Zhirkov. The loss now sees second place Arsenal only 4 points away from catching up with the current league leaders.

This result has made the Liverpool v Manchester United game on Sunday even more important for Alex Ferguson and Kenny Dalglish. A win is needed to try and catch up with Spurs who are in 5th place, currently Liverpool are at odds of 14/1 to obtain a top four finish to their season. If Liverpool can beat United it could stop Sir Alex’s side from claiming the Premier League title this season if Arsenal also win against Sunderland on Saturday. If this happens then Arsenal and United will only be separated by one point, leaving the race for the title open once again. United are at odds of 4/6 to claim the title with Arsenal at odds of 13/8.

March 2, 2011

The next election to decide the Mayor of London does not take place until 2012 but the major political parties have already announced who will be standing for them in the Mayoral elections.

The current Mayor and Boris Johnson has announced that he wants to stand for a second term on behalf of the Conservative Party, for Labour the ex Mayor Ken Livingstone emerged as the Labour nomination after defeating former MP Oona King in a vote amongst party members, gaining over 68% of the votes. Whilst the Liberal Democrats have postponed their nomination process until later this year but it is thought that former MP Lembit Opik will emerge as the candidate.

Next Mayor of London odds

All odds for this market come courtesy of bookmakers Bet 365.

  • 8/11 – Boris Johnson
  • Evens – Ken Livingstone

Ken Livingstone will be hoping to be reinstalled as Mayor having lost out to the surprise winner Boris Johnson in the 2008 election; Livingstone of course was London’s first Mayor winning the 2000 as an independent candidate and was kept on in 2004 after winning for Labour.

Both Mayors have come under scrutiny for the polices during there terms, Livingstone famously brought in the Congestion Charge to the capital whilst Johnson has brought in the “Boris Bike Scheme” which will cost the city over £100 million over 6 years but will help to reduce congestion in the City. Johnson is also known for his off the cuff remarks, when questioned whether he should carry on his £250,000 a year job at the Telegraph writing a column he dismissed the salary as “chicken feed”.

A draw is the best value in the top of the table clash at Stamford Bridge

March 1, 2011

Tonight’s big game in the Premier League is the rearranged December clash between Chelsea and league leaders Manchester United, it taking place at Stamford Bridge with a 7.45 pm kick off and the game is featured live on Sky Sports 2. At the original time of the game it was thought to be one of the most important games of the season as both teams were challenging for the top but after Chelsea’s poor run of form a win for Chelsea in this game has more to offer to Arsenal as they are attempting to close in on United.

For Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti it will be his teams last real chance of getting anywhere near the top 3 of the table. The manager has already confessed that he sees no real chance of challenging Manchester United for the title this season as the London club are currently 15 points behind Sir Alex Ferguson’s side although they do have a game in hand over the competition.
