The winner of the 2010 Arnold Palmer Invitational, South Africa’s Ernie Els is way down the pecking order of golfers that bookmakers Ladbrokes are betting on to win the tournament this year. The South African is currently placed at odds of 33/1 to retain his title. Leading the pack this year is the troubled Tiger Woods who is still after his first win in the 2011 season. Woods has in the past done very well at this course winning the tournament on six occasions and he will want to make it a seventh.

The tournament takes place from the 24th – 27th March 2011 and comes from the Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando and is owned by Arnold Palmer. The event is one of only five tournaments given the invitational status by the PGA Tour. As it is a restricted field event it is only open to the first 70 players of the previous year’s money list. It has a prize fund of $6 million with the winner walking away with almost $1.1 million.

Arnold Palmer Invitational outright odds

All odds come from the bookmakers Paddy Power on the top 10 placed golfers in the tournament.

The world renowned boat race between teams from the Oxford University Boat Club and the Cambridge University Boat Club takes place on 26th March 2011 at 5pm and at it will be the 158th running of this competition between the competing Universities.

Oxford will be looking to regain their title after they lost to Cambridge in 2010 by 1 and 1/3 lengths. Cambridge are currently leading the series which began in 1829 by 80 to 75 (the race has only been held to a dead heat on 2 occasions). Oxford have had the most wins up to 2010 between the 2 Universities but no team since 2000 has managed to win on more than 3 times in succession, this was wan Oxford broke Cambridge’s 7 race unbeaten run.

The race will be broadcast live on ITV1 and a crowd of around 250,000 spectators is expected to link the banks of the Thames to witness the event. The boat race is four miles and 374 yards long (6,779m) and it starts at Putney Bridge and ends at Chiswick Bridge

The draw for the quarter finals of the Champions League was made earlier today by former Spurs and England player Gary Lineker at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

The draw has pitted Chelsea against Manchester United meaning that at least one English team will make it through to the semi finals but Boylesports are putting odds of 4/11 that only one English side will make it through to the semi finals. Last time when Chelsea faced Manchester United in the 2008 final in Moscow the outcome was decided by a penalty shootout, Boylesports are giving odds of 20/1 for it to happen in this fixture too. Both John Terry and Nicolas Anelka missed from the spot in the penalty shootout and Terry is being given odds of 50/1 to miss from the spot this time round.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has seen his side drawn against the mighty Real Madrid under the guidance of Jose Mourinho. It has been a dream start for Tottenham Hotspur in their first ever UEFA European Champions League and they have already managed to beat the holders of last years tournament and Boylesports are currently pricing them at odds of 7/1 to get past Real Madrid and then Barcelona.

The owners of Manchester City have been given permission by Manchester City council to rename their Stadium and take advantage of the huge sponsorship deals that are out there for naming rights. Currently the stadium is known officially as the “City of Manchester Stadium” but is often referred to as Eastlands.

The club inherited the stadium in 2003 on a 250 year lease after it was used for the 2002 Commonwealth Games and moved from their old home at Maine Road. To date the club have been unable to take advantage of the potential gold mine of selling the naming rights. Other sides such as Arsenal have sold their right to Emirates in deal worth around £100 million over 10 years even lower league sides like Coventry City have bagged £10 million by having their stadium known as the Ricoh Arena.

The most likely candidate to take on the sponsorship of the stadium would be current City shirt sponsors Ethiad who according to the bookies are the favourites at odds of 6/4, but with American companies getting more involved with the sport perhaps the Budweiser Stadium could be on the cards.

The tournament started life as the Tampa Bay Classic before changing in 2008 to become the Transitions Championship. It takes place from the 17th -20th March and it is played on the Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Florida, USA. The course is a par 71 event over 7,340 yards and has a healthy prize fund of $5.4 million.

Last year the tournament was won by US golfer Jim Furyk who is currently showing at odds of 33/1 with bookmaker Paddypower to retain his title. Also in the running are KJ Choi and Retief Goosen who have both win this event on two previous occasions.

However the current favourite to walk away with the title this is Germany’s Martin Kaymer who is after still the current number one golfer in the world. One golfer to keep an eye on here is Vijay Singh who holds the tournament record following his 2004 victory here.

After dispatching Arsenal at the weekend allowing Sir Alex’s side to progress to the semi final of the FA Cup then can look at progressing in the Champions League when they face Marseille in the second leg of their last 16 clash on Tuesday evening.

The two sides reached a stalemate in the first leg of the competition but United the squad now has the renewed imputes to succeed after defeating the gunners the odds are pointing to a comprehensive win for Manchester United at Old Trafford. United are currently the favourites to win tomorrow and progress past the last 16.

Man Utd v Marseille match odds

1/2 – Man Utd win

6/1 – Marseille win

3/1 – Draw

The bookmakers Paddy Power are running a cash back offer on this game. If Manchester United’s striker Wayne Rooney scores the last goal of the game then they will refund all of losing first and last goal scorer bets as well as correct score bets and any scorecast singles that have been made on the match. Currently the striker is at odds of 7/2 to be the last player on the score sheet, the last time that Rooney was the final goal scorer was in February during the teams 2-1 victor over Manchester City when the player scored what he (Rooney) has referred to as the best goal of his career and it is certainly one of the contenders for goal of the season.
