Wayne Rooney Favourite In Premier League 2011/12 Top Goalscorer Betting
August 9, 2011
We are just days away from the start of the new Premier League season and one of the central talking points is who the main contenders for the sought after Golden Boot award are. Last season there was an avalanche of goals but strangely not one player who set the league alight with a flurry of individual goals, which is perhaps reflected in the low winning Golden Boot tally of 20, shared by Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov. This season the league’s strikers will be looking to make amends and return in blistering fashion with an abundance of goals. This is always a popular betting market to take advantage of some great pre-season odds with Betfred.
Wayne Rooney has been installed as the 8/1 favourite to finish as the 2011/12 Top Goalscorer. To many football fans this may come as a surprise as Rooney has firsty never actually got his hands on the award and secondly is not known for his prolific goalscoring record. Rooney endured a difficult start to the 2010/11 season as he not only had to bounce back from a woeful World Cup campaign but had to learn how to regain the United faithful’s love and trust following the furore over his future. However, the 25-year-old is chracterised by his trademark grit and determination and will no doubt be determined to open his account early this season. Rooney’s Mexican teammate Javier Hernandez is narrowly behind him in the betting, with odds of 17/2. ‘Chicharito’ was the surprise package last season – he scored 20 goals for United, 13 of which came in the league, and he will be looking to continue that streak into the new season. If both Rooney and Hernandez are firing on all cylinders then United have a lethal partnership at their disposal.
With all the attention on Rooney and Hernandez, it is difficult to remember that last year’s Golden Boot winner was actually Dimitar Berbatov, who scored 20 goals despite regular appearances from the bench towards the latter half of the season. The Bulgarian has been handed odds of 20/1 to retain his title but it is difficult to judge how many starts he is going to get. All three strikers will be benefited by wingers Antonio Valencia, Nani (18 assists last season) and new recruit Ashley Young who will be firing in inch perfect crosses for them to latch onto.
United’s fierce rivals Manchester City have again spent heavily, this time splashing out a whopping £38m for the extremely talented Sergio Aguero from Athletico Madrid. The striker has, rather surprisingly, been handed relatively short odds of 12/1 to finish as the Premier League’s Top Goalscorer. Although he certainly has the ability to score a bucket load of goals, he will probably take some time to settle as he won’t be used to the speed and physical nature of the Premier League. Carlos Tevez has been handed odds of 14/1, which would certainly represent good value if you knew that the Argentine was definitely staying at the club. Edin Dzeko has been priced at 20/1 while controversial striker Mario Balotelli could be worth a gamble at 25/1.
Outside of Manchester there is of course an abundance of other talented hitsman looking to make their mark this season. Top of the list is Chelsea’s Fernando Torres who will be more determined than ever to start smashing in the goals after mustering just a solitary goal last season after his big-money move to Stamford Bridge. The Spaniard is available at 9/1, while his teammates and former winners of the award, Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka are available at 14/1 and 25/1 respectively.
Providing he stays injury free Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie is a great shout at 9/1. The Dutchman was sensation in the second half of 2011 and everyone associated the club will be hoping he can continue in that rich vein of form into the new season. However, his tally may not be too high if playmakers Cesc Fabregas and Samuel Nasri were to leave the club this summer. The duo’s workrate and ability to pick out Van Persie is crucial to him finding the back of the net. Elsewhere you get the feeling that Liverpool are due a big season and last January they recruited two magnificent signings in Luis Suarez (12/1) and Andy Carroll (20/1) and both will be eager to get off to a flying start in their first full season with the club. Lets not forget the proven Premier League goalscorer Darren Bent who is definitely worth a punt at 12/1.
Top Goalscorer Odds
- 8/1 – Wayne Rooney
- 17/2 – Javier Hernandez
- 9/1 – Fernando Torres

Real Madrid Leading Candidates In Neymar Next Club Betting
July 14, 2011
Neymar has rapidly become one of the hottest properties in world football and currently has a handful of top European clubs fighting it out to capture his signature. The talented 19-year-old has shone this year after a series of dazzling displays for his club Santos, whom he recently helped win the Copa Libertadores with two goals in the Final. The Neymar transfer saga will be in full swing once the Brazilian has returned from the Copa America as it now looks like he is destined to leave Santos after attracting attention from Europe’s big spenders.
His suitors must be willing to splash the cash for their man as he has a whopping €45 million release clause in his contract, something that is unlikely to trouble the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid. Sky Bet have installed the Spanish giants Madrid as the 8/15 favourites to sign their summer blockbuster before the end of the transfer window, and at the moment it appears that the Bernabeu is Neymar’s most likely destination.
However, a number of other club’s will have something to say about that. The Premier League duo, Chelsea and Man City, are both eager to sign the young Brazlian in order to bolster their respective attacks. At Chelsea, Neymar could form a potentially ruthless partnership with Fernando Torres, where as at Man City he may be able to link up with Carlos Tevez, if the Argentine performs a dramatic u-turn and opts to stay at Eastlands. Chelsea are the 9/4 second favourites to land the star and Man City are available at 7/1.
Also in contention are Madrid’s fierce rivals Barcelona with odds of 4/1. In Barcelona Neymar would be joining the best team in the world, however, he will not definitely be a guaranteed starter at the club, which could put him off. Juventus are also in with a shout at 16/1, as our the well-off Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala, who currently have four Brazilians in their side, including Roberto Carlos. At the moment it is unlikely that any deal will be completed until after the Copa America has come to a close, so expect fireworks come the end of July.

Man Utd Specials – 2011/12 Trophy Multiples Betting Odds with Betfred
July 8, 2011
Next season Manchester United not only want to continue asserting their dominance domestically but they want to close the gap between themselves and Barcelona, who convincingly defeated them in both the 2009 and 2011 Champions League Finals. In the aftermath of their defeat to Barcelona at Wembley in May, Sir Alex Ferguson acknowledged that the current Barcelona team are the best team he has ever faced during his time as manager. Every team in Europe is currently playing catch-up to Pep Guardiola’s scintillating side, who have been described as one of the best team’s of all time.
Fergie will certainly take no consolation from his United side’s status as the second best team in Europe and he will be more determined than ever to close the gap between United and the Catalans next season. He has already made a few decent summer signings in order to bolster his squad, having borught in the highly rated England Under 21 defender Phil Jones and England regular Ashley Young, plus the talented young goalkeeper David de Gea from Atletico Madrid. The Red Devils are also on the lookout for a replacement for Paul Scholes, who retired last season, and at present have their eye on Arsenal’s Samir Nasri and Tottenham’s Luka Modric.
United are the 7/4 favourites with Betfred to retain their Premier League trophy, in what is already looking to be a very competitive and action-packed 2011/12 season. Fierce local rivals Manchester City will offer their sternest challenge yet, as they continue to bring in high calibre players, including defenders Gael Clichy and Stefan Savic. Chelsea have something to prove under their talented new manager Andre Villas-Boas, while Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool will provide a much tougher test than last season. If Arsenal and Tottenham can hold onto their best players and make some signings themselves then they will also be in with a shout come the end of the season.
Fergie’s men are available at 8/1 to win the Champions League, 11/2 for both the FA Cup and Carling Cup and 14/1 to win the Premier League and FA Cup double. They also have odds of 100/1 to repeat their historic treble winning season of 1998/99 by winning the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and FA Cup next season.

Carlos Tevez Specials – Next Club Betting Odds With Paddy Power
July 6, 2011
The Carlos Tevez transfer saga is now in full swing after the striker reiterated his desire to leave Eastlands due to family reasons. Manchester City have reportedly slapped a whopping £50million price tag on their captain and most influential player, a hefty sum that will no doubt limit the amount of suiters. Tevez’s workrate and desire cannot be questioned; neither can his record for City – an impressive 53 goals in 86 games. But, the 27-year-old is a contentious player who is very difficult to manage. His child-like tantrums are disruptive to the dressing room and team morale, which the club’s chasing his signature will have to bear in mind before they shed out a ton of money for his services.
At present, it appears that Spain and Italy are the Argentine’s most likely destinations, with Jose Mourinho’s free-spending Real Madrid the 7/4 favourites with Paddy Power to snap up the controversial player. The Italian giants Inter Milan (4/1) and AC Milan (6/1) are also in the running, as are Chelsea with odds of 4/1, which would be a shock move, although we wouldn’t rule it out as we all know loyalty isn’t something people usually associate with Tevez.
What about a return to his homeland Argentina? At 10/1 Boca Juniors may well be worth a punt. Tevez has stated that he wants to be closer to his family and with Boca Juniors located in Buenos Aires – the place of his wife and children’s residence – the move definitely looks tempting for the player. However, it is unlikely that his former club will be able to match City’s valuation and the player’s huge £200,000 plus wage demands.
Other club’s in with a chance of signing Tevez include Juventus and Barcelona who are both priced at 10/1, and also Atletico Madrid at 12/1. Tevez for a dramatic return to Championship club West Ham at 100/1 anyone?

Odds on who will be crowned Premier League champions is all open again
March 7, 2011
After an exciting weekend of football the race to be crowned the Premier League champions has once again been opened after Manchester United have once again stumbled.
A month ago it looked as if Sir Alex Ferguson’s side had the 2010/11 Premier League title all sewn up but after they recent losses against bottom of the table Wolves at the beginning of February and more recently the loss against Chelsea things had started to look shaky for the side then at the weekend United once again succumbed to a loss this time against Liverpool which has given Arsenal the opportunity to catch up with United. Wenger’s side are now just 3 points behind United with a game in hand if they had not drew against Sunderland at the weekend and lost out on 2 points they would be even closer.
United are still odds on to win the title but bookies Stan James have cut them from 1/2 to 8/11, Arsenal have moved from 13/8 to 9/4 whilst Chelsea have been cut from 10/1 down to 8/1 whilst Manchester City are very much an outside chance still being around the 25/1 mark.

A draw is the best value in the top of the table clash at Stamford Bridge
March 1, 2011
Tonight’s big game in the Premier League is the rearranged December clash between Chelsea and league leaders Manchester United, it taking place at Stamford Bridge with a 7.45 pm kick off and the game is featured live on Sky Sports 2. At the original time of the game it was thought to be one of the most important games of the season as both teams were challenging for the top but after Chelsea’s poor run of form a win for Chelsea in this game has more to offer to Arsenal as they are attempting to close in on United.
For Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti it will be his teams last real chance of getting anywhere near the top 3 of the table. The manager has already confessed that he sees no real chance of challenging Manchester United for the title this season as the London club are currently 15 points behind Sir Alex Ferguson’s side although they do have a game in hand over the competition.

Will Drogba and Torres both manage to score tonight against Fulham?
February 14, 2011
Chelsea make the short journey to Craven Cottage to face Fulham for a Premier League clash. After Torres debut against Liverpool which saw Ancelotti’s side lose 1-0 has helped Chelsea now slip down to 5th in the table on 44 points, 13 points behind league leaders Manchester United and as such the Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has now written off the chances of his side retaining the Premier League title this season.
In the last 28 encounters over a period of 31 years Fulham have only managed to beat Chelsea on one occasion back in 2006. In Fulhams favour they have managed to win their last 3 Premier league games and have a kept a clean sheet.

The amount of money being spent last night (over £200 million in all) has shown how series some teams are to compete in the Premier League, the new signings are however unlikely to appear in these midweek fixtures.

Manchester United favourites to claim this seasons FA Cup
January 10, 2011
The draw for the fourth round of the FA Cup was announced yesterday and it looks as if Manchester United should easily progress to the fifth round following the news that they are set to face League One side Southampton. The draw has seen the current Premier League Leaders being touted as the favourite to lift the FA Cup trophy later on this year at odds of just 7/2 cut from earlier odds of 5/1, whilst current Cup holders Chelsea have stayed at the same odds of 5/1.
Manchester United progressed to the fourth round after defeating Liverpool 1-0. However there was controversy surrounding their win when as United were awarded penalty within the first minute of the game and Liverpool’s Captain Steven Gerrard was sent off for a foul on Michael Carrick after 30 minutes.
