Carling Cup Special – Man City v Liverpool Betting
January 10, 2012
Man City v Liverpool – Wednesday 11th January (BBC1, 7.45pm)
Manchester City take on Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday in the first-leg of their Carling Cup semi-final. City may be leading the Premier League but in the last month they have been dumped out of both the Champions League and FA Cup. Their main focus is of course the league but Roberto Mancini will also be eying up this competition, which could deliver him the first trophy of the season. Meanwhile, Liverpool are without a trophy since 2006 and they will want to come away from Manchester with a good result. Man City are the 19/20 favourites with Paddy Power to win the first-leg, while Liverpool can be backed at 3/1, with a draw available at 12/5. If there is a Red Card in this match, Paddy Power will refund all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score & scorecast singles on the game.
All eyes will be on Man City to see if they can bounce back from their FA Cup defeat to fierce rivals Man Utd. City beat Liverpool 3-0 in the league last week and they will be looking for a repeat performance on Wednesday. Liverpool started the match strongly but, as so often has been the case this season, failed to convert any of their chances. However, they have managed to score at least two goals in all their Carling Cup fixtures so far. City are priced at 18/1 to win 3-0 again, 15/2 to win 2-0 and 7/1 to win 2-1. Liverpool would no doubt take a 1-1 draw at 11/1 or they may even be worth a punt at 16/1 to come away with a 2-1 win.
Sergio Aguero was in cracking form against Man Utd and he once again can be found as the favourite to open the scoring, with odds of 9/2. Edin Dzeko has been handed odds of 5/1 to score first, while Mario Balotellis is available at 11/2. With Luis Suarez suspended Liverpool will now have to rely heavily on Andy Carroll and Craig Bellamy, who can both be backed at 8/1 to be the first goalscorer. Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard is available at 10/1.

Man Utd Specials – 2011/12 Trophy Multiples Betting Odds with Betfred
July 8, 2011
Next season Manchester United not only want to continue asserting their dominance domestically but they want to close the gap between themselves and Barcelona, who convincingly defeated them in both the 2009 and 2011 Champions League Finals. In the aftermath of their defeat to Barcelona at Wembley in May, Sir Alex Ferguson acknowledged that the current Barcelona team are the best team he has ever faced during his time as manager. Every team in Europe is currently playing catch-up to Pep Guardiola’s scintillating side, who have been described as one of the best team’s of all time.
Fergie will certainly take no consolation from his United side’s status as the second best team in Europe and he will be more determined than ever to close the gap between United and the Catalans next season. He has already made a few decent summer signings in order to bolster his squad, having borught in the highly rated England Under 21 defender Phil Jones and England regular Ashley Young, plus the talented young goalkeeper David de Gea from Atletico Madrid. The Red Devils are also on the lookout for a replacement for Paul Scholes, who retired last season, and at present have their eye on Arsenal’s Samir Nasri and Tottenham’s Luka Modric.
United are the 7/4 favourites with Betfred to retain their Premier League trophy, in what is already looking to be a very competitive and action-packed 2011/12 season. Fierce local rivals Manchester City will offer their sternest challenge yet, as they continue to bring in high calibre players, including defenders Gael Clichy and Stefan Savic. Chelsea have something to prove under their talented new manager Andre Villas-Boas, while Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool will provide a much tougher test than last season. If Arsenal and Tottenham can hold onto their best players and make some signings themselves then they will also be in with a shout come the end of the season.
Fergie’s men are available at 8/1 to win the Champions League, 11/2 for both the FA Cup and Carling Cup and 14/1 to win the Premier League and FA Cup double. They also have odds of 100/1 to repeat their historic treble winning season of 1998/99 by winning the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and FA Cup next season.

On form West Ham ready for United challenge
March 30, 2011
Following a two week break due to the international fixtures the Premier League returns on Saturday, with West Ham v Manchester United the pick of the games. United have been draw specialists away from Old Trafford this season, having being held in 11 of their 15 matches on the road. After a poor first half of the season West Ham have vastly improved of late and will be more than confident of pulling off a result, with Victor Chandler’s odds of a draw at 13/5 being more than a just a likely possibility.
West Ham have won three of their last five matches, form not usually associated with relegation strugglers. The Hammers lost 3-0 at Old Trafford earlier in the season but they can draw confidence from their 4-0 demolition of United in the Carling Cup at Upton Park back in November, and Victor Chandler are offering odds of 150/1 for a repeat scoreline. Jonathan Spector and Carlton Cole both got a brace in that game and Cole is priced at 11/1 to score 2 or more this Saturday. Demba Ba has been in fine form for West Ham since he joined in January and can be backed to score first with Victor Chandler at 8/1, or at 9/5 to score at any point in the match. West Ham will be wary of Wayne Rooney, who has scored 4 goals in his last 5 games against them, with the striker available at 17/4 to open the scoring.
Sir Alex Ferguson will no doubt have one eye on his side’s Champions League encounter with Chelsea on the Tuesday but the United boss is still likely to field a strong team as he looks to extend United’s lead over Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table. However, United will have to improve on their poor recent away form, which has seen them lose 3 of their last 4 away games, including a 2-1 defeat to West Ham’s relegation rivals Wolverhampton. United also have a couple of injury concerns ahead of the game, with Ji-sung Park and Darren Fletcher hoping to recover from knocks.
Manchester United are still favourites however, with Victor Chandler pricing them at 5/6 to win at Upton Park. West Ham are 18/5 to win whilst a draw is 13/5.
West Ham United v Manchester United Specials with Victor Chandler:
- 66/1 – Jonathan Spector to score 2 or more goals
- 18/1 – Wayne Rooney to score a hat-trick
- 16/1 – West Ham to be leading at half-time with the game finishing a draw at full-time

Arsenal favourites to lift the Carling Cup this season
February 22, 2011
Arsenal make their first trip to Wembley this season as they face Birmingham City in the final of the Carling Cup. Both teams are also in with a chance of a return to Wembley later in the year as they are both still featuring in the FA Cup. Arsenal are the clear favourite out of the two teams to win the fixture at odds of 2/9 to lift the Carling Cup Trophy. Should you fancy Arsenal to go on and do the double and win the Premier League they are currently at odds of 11/4 but if you think that is too much buy that they can lift both trophies this season (FA Cup and Carling Cup) they are odds of 5/1.
Last season Birmingham only managed to get to the third round of the tournament before they were defeated 2-0 by Sunderland and Arsenal reached the fifth round before they were knocked out by a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City.

Cashback offer on tonights Man United v Wolves Carling Cup clash
October 26, 2010
Mick McCarthy’s Wolves side are tonight playing at Old Trafford in this Carling Cup Fourth round against the current Carling Cup holders Manchester United. The two sides have met on 93 occasions with United winning 44 of these fixtures compared to Wolves 33 wins but their last win at Old Trafford was a 1-0 league win in 1980!
Untied will be fielding their second XI in this game but constant injury boy Michael Owen looks like he could be leading the attack for Sir Alex’s side, Wolves are expected to field a strong side with midfielder Stephen Hunt having a run out following his long term foot injury.
Tonight’s fixture for Wolves will be a welcome break from Premiership action for Wolves as they are currently languishing in 19th place in the Premier league table only ahead on goal difference from bottom team West Ham United both of whom are on 6 points.
Manchester United v Wolves match odds
Even though manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be fielding a largely second string side they are still the favourites to win this fixture.
Bookies Betfred are running a cash back offer on this game if you place a bet on the first or last goal scorer and manage to not back a winner and Manchester United manage to score 4 or more goals in this fixture then Betfred will refund your losing stake money back into you account for you to use as a free bet.

Can Ian Holloways Blackpool take advantage of a lacklustre Liverpool side?
October 1, 2010
Blackpool face another one on the Premierships “big” teams this coming weekend when they make the relatively short to trip to Anfield on Sunday afternoon for their clash against Roy Hodgson’s misfiring Liverpool team. Blackpool are currently one place above the once mighty Liverpool in the Premiership table with both teams having a run of less than perfect results.
Ian Holloways side kicked off the season well with a 4-0 win against Wigan but when faced against the top flight of the Premiership they have seen a string of poor result losing 6-0 against Arsenal and 4-0 against Chelsea will Liverpool make it another drubbing or will their form work in Blackpool’s favour. Whilst Liverpool were recently dumped out of the Carling Cup by League Two side Northampton and have only managed to draw in their last 3 games.

Cash back offer on tonight’s Carling Cup if Owen scores the last goal of the game for United
September 22, 2010
In what could be a giant killing exercise (or a massive drubbing) when Championship side Scunthorpe take on the mighty Premiership side and current Carling Cup holders Manchester United in the 3rd round of the Carling Cup in a game that comes from Scunthorpes Glanford Park ground which has a capacity of just over 9,000.
United are expected to field Michael Owen up front but is expected to rest the bulk of his side for this fixture while Scunthorpe’s caretaker manager Ian Baraclough may be without defender Rob Jones who is nursing a knee injury on top of Jim McNulty and Garry Thompson who is out until November.
Scunthorpe v Manchester United match odds
It is no real surprise that Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are the favourites to win this fixture, but they have come unstuck in the past back in 2007 they lost this same fixture 2-0 when they were beaten by Championship side Coventry City.
Cash back offer
Bookmakers Bet Fred are running a cash back offer on this third round clash by offering punters the chance to get their stake money back on first and last goal scorer bets if Manchester United’s Michael Owen scores the last goal of the game.

Spurs favourites to progress in the Carling Cup as they face Arsenal
September 20, 2010
Tomorrow night sees the third round of the Carling Cup in what some fans call the poor mans cup but it has thrown up a real treat for football fans as we see a match between north London rivals Spurs and Arsenal when they meet at White Hart Lane, normally we have to wait until the semis before these two teams meet. The two teams have met each other seven times in the League Cup, and four of these fixtures were in the semi finals.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp will be expected to field Niko Kranjcar, Wilson Palacios and even new signing Sandro in his squad even though Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said he will continue his policy of playing his youngsters in the competition although due to injuries he is thought to be playing Marouane Chamakh.

Will Portsmouths problems continue in tonights Carling Cup fixture?
August 9, 2010
Cash strapped Portsmouth hit the Championship with a bump when they recorded their first (presumably of many) loss of the season when they travelled up to the Midlands to face Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena and came away with a 2-0 defeat, neither side looked fantastic but Portsmouth’s lack of squad was obvious when new boss Steve Cotterill was only able to name 4 subs on the bench out of a possible 7, currently the Portsmouth side is down to just 18 eligible players.
Now Portsmouth must try to bounce back as they take on Stevenage tonight in the first round of Carling Cup, a loss tonight for last years FA Cup finalists could put Pompey fans in a disparate place for the rest of their season.
Stevenage v Portsmouth match odds
This will be the first time that these two clubs have ever faced each other, the last time Portsmouth were eliminated at this stage of the competition since they were beaten by Colchester in 2001.
