Bahrain Grand Prix Special With Betfred

April 20, 2012

Bahrain Grand PrixSunday 22nd April (Sky Sports F1, 1pm)

On Sunday the Bahrain Grand Prix makes a return to the schedule after the 2011 race was cancelled due to anti-government protests. Unfortunately for the organisers this year’s race has so far not gone without controversy as Force India’s participation has been thrown into doubt following a petrol bomb attack by protesters. The incident has raised further concerns about safety and it is not yet known whether the team will take part on Sunday.

The Bahrain International Circuit, which is 5.412km, is the fourth race of an already action-packed season and bookmakers Betfred have installed McLaren teammates Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button as the joint 9/4 favourites. After three consecutive third place finishes Hamilton has emerged as the leader in the Drivers Championship standings with 45 points. The 27-year-old, who was fastest in the first practice session, will be gunning for his first win of the season in order to consolidate his position at the top. Button, who won in Bahrain back in 2009, is just behind Hamilton with 43 points following an impressive open season win in Australia and a second place finish in China last week.

Sebastian Vettel is yet to win in 2012 but the 2010 and 2011 Drivers Champion will certainly be a threat and can be backed at 7/1 to win in Bahrain for the first time in his career. Nico Rosberg won a compelling Grand Prix in Shanghai last week and the Mercedes driver is priced at 8/1 to repeat the feat and win back-to-back races. Elsewhere Mark Webber is available at 10/1, while Rosberg’s teammate Michael Schumacher has been handed odds of 12. The last time the race was held in Bahrain Ferrari achieved a fine 1-2 finish, with Fernando Alonso taking first and Felipe Massa coming home in second place. Ferrari are unlikely to compete for a podium position this time around but it is worth noting that Alonso is a three-time winner in Bahrain, which makes him an attractive outside bet at 20/1.

If your selection does not complete the first 3 laps of the Bahrain Grand Prix, Betfred will refund all Outright and Fastest Lap Singles up to £250.

Sweden The Clear Favourites In Current Eurovision 2012 Betting

April 20, 2012

The 2012 Eurovision Song Contest is now fast approaching and with the betting starting to hot up punters are busy trying to find the winner from a tight betting market. At the moment all the talk across Europe is surrounding Sweden who are the warm favourites to take the win in Azerbaijan at the end of May. The entry by artist Loreen has already topped the charts in Sweden and at the moment it can be backed at a price of 9/4 with Paddy Power to win Eurovision for 2012.

The Swedes has gone with a modern uptempo dance pop song for their entry this year which is the complete opposite to the British who have decided to let 75-year-old Engelbert Humperdinck represent them. The veteran crooner will sing Love Will Set You Free in Baku and although there was some initial negativity there has been money for him with the UK now available at a price of 10/1 with Paddy Power.

The other big names in the Eurovision this year are without doubt Jedward who will be representing Ireland for the second successive time and it will be fascinating to see how they fair this time around. The annoying twins did a reasonable job last year and although it would be a surprise to see them win in 2012 the bookmakers believe they have an outside chance, Ireland are currently available at 10/1 with Paddy Power to win in Baku.

Chelsea v Barcelona Odds – Lionel Messi Money-Back Special

April 18, 2012

Chelsea v BarcelonaWednesday, April 18th (ITV 1, 7.45pm)

Champions League rivals Chelsea and Barcelona lock horns at Stamford Bridge tonight in what promises to be an entertaining semi-final first-leg. While Barcelona are aiming to become the first team to win back-to-back Champions League trophies, Chelsea are gunning to avenge the last-gasp Andrés Iniesta equaliser that led to their heartbreaking exit at this stage three years ago. Despite having home advantage Chelsea go into the match as the 7/2 outsiders, with Barcelona the odds-on 3/4 favourites for the win, while a draw is available at 14/5.

Since the departure of Andre Villas-Boas Chelsea have been in great form, losing once in just 12 matches. Under interim boss Robert Di Matteo they have been very impressive, exemplified by their fine 5-1 win against Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-final last Sunday. However, whether they will be able to cope with Lionel Messi and co is debatable. Pep Guardiola’s men have lost just once in their last 34 matches in all competitions and have won seven of their last eight away games on the road. They are undefeated in the Champions League this season and in the previous round they knocked-out Italian giants AC Milan.

Since their first meeting in 2000, the teams have met nine further times in the competition. Their head-to-head record could not be closer, with each side winning three matches, with the other four draws. However, this season the advantage is most definitely with Barcelona who are the hot favourites to go on to win the cup. Chelsea can be backed at 13/1 to record a 2-1 win, while Barcelona are available at 7/1 to win 2-1 or 12/1 to come away from Stamford Bridge with a 3-1 advantage.

It comes as no surprise to see the majestic Lionel Messi top the first goalscorer market with odds of 13/5 but if he scores the last goal, Paddy Power will refund all losing First Goalscorer, Last Goalscroer, Correct Score & Scorecast singles on the match. The 24-year-old has scored an incredible 63 goals so far this season and is currently the top scorer in the competition with 14 goals. Next in the running is Alexis Sanchez at 6/1 and Cesc Fàbregas at 15/2. Pedro has been handed odds of 8/1 to score the opening goal, while Andrés Iniesta is available at 10/1. Chelsea’s in-form striker Didier Drogba is definitely worth a bet at 8/1, with Fernando Torres at 9/1 and Frank Lampard at 11/1.

Rafa Nadal Early Favourite For 2012 French Open

April 17, 2012

2012 French Open: May 27th to June 10th

Six-time time winner Rafa Nadal has emerged as the early favourite for the 2012 French Open, with the Spaniard priced at 11/10 with bookmakers Ladbrokes. The clay court specialist has won six of the last seven Finals at his favourite Grand Slam but will once again face stiff competition from World Number One Novak Djokovic. The Serbian, who is available at 6/4, is gunning to complete the Grand Slam set and claim his first French Open trophy. The 24-year-old has won four of the last five Slams and has remarkably beaten rival Nadal seven times in a row, with each victory in a Final, and the last three consecutive wins coming in Slam Finals.

He may not have won a Grand Slam since the 2010 Australian Open but Roger Federer is most definitely worth a bet at 10/1. The 2009 French Open champion still has the game, passion and desire to extend his record of 16 Grand Slams but whether he can battle past (potentially both) Nadal and Djokovic remains to be seen. It is worth remembering that he has reached at least the quarter-finals of the last 31 Slams, a phenomenal run dating back to Wimbledon 2004. Federer also managed to reach the French Open Final last year but lost an exciting match 7–5 7–6 5–7 6–1 to old nemesis Nadal.

Britain’s Andy Murray heads into the second Slam of the season still searching for that elusive first Grand Slam title. The 24-year-old represents an attractive option at 14/1 and after reaching the semi-final for the first time last year he will be eager to go a couple of steps better and get his hands on the title at Roland Garros. Also at 14/1 is Juan Martin del Potro, with David Ferrer at 33/1 and John Isner at 50/1. Elsewhere Tomas Berdych may be worth a punt at 66/1, while other outside bets include the 2009 and 2010 French Open runner-up Robin Söderling and also Jo-Wifred Tsonga, who are both priced at 100/1.

2012 French Open – Men’s Singles Odds

  • 11/10 – Rafa Nadal
  • 6/4 – Novak Djokovic
  • 10/1 – Roger Federer
  • 14/1 – Andy Murray
  • 14/1 – Juan Martin del Potro
  • 33/1 – David Ferrer

  • 66/1 – Tomas Berdych

  • 100/1 – Jo-Wifred Tsonga

April 17, 2012

The World Snooker Championships get underway in Sheffield this weekend and the latest show of betting for the tournament shows that young sensation Judd Trump is the one to beat. The potting sensation from Bristol has taken the game by storm over the past couple of years and after reaching the final at the Crucible in 2011, many expect him to go one better in 2012 and pick up the famous trophy.

It has to be said that snooker is in strong position at the moment and looking through the market it is easy to make a case for any number of players to win the World title this year. There is no doubt that Trump is the one to beat and he can be backed at 11/2 with Ladbrokes to lift the title for the very first time. It will not be easy though for Trump with a number of players in form heading to Sheffield who have the trophy in their sights.

Punters will be quick to look at some old favourites in the betting with Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Higgins in particular proving popular with Snooker fans. Bayern Munich v Real Madrid Odds – Christiano Ronaldo Special

April 17, 2012

Bayern Munich v Real MadridTuesday, April 17th (Sky Sports 2 , 7.45pm)

Bayern Munich welcome Real Madrid to the Allianz Arena tonight for the first-leg of their crunch Champions League semi-final. The match promises to be an enthralling encounter between two exciting teams with enviable European pedigrees. Both sides boast a multitude of superstars who thrive on occasions such as these and the match has all the ingredients to be an absolute thriller. Paddy Power have installed Bayern as the narrow 13/8 favourites to win the first-leg, while Real are available at 17/10 to take a win back to the Bernabeu, with a draw priced at 23/10.

Bayern Munich finished top of a difficult Group A qualifying group and have since brushed aside Basel in the round of 16 and Marseille in the quarter-finals, without even conceding a goal. However, their domestic league form has come unstuck in the last week following a defeat to leaders Borussia Dortmund and a disappointing goalless draw at home to Mainz, which puts them eight points off top spot with just three games remaining, meaning a 23rd Bundesliga title is now extremely unlikely. Their main focus will therefore be the Champions League and if the likes of Frank Ribery, Arjen Robben and Mario Gomez are firing on all cylinders then they will definitely be a match for their Spanish opponents.

Jose Mourinho knows that a win or score draw at the Allianz Arena will put Real in a great position come the second-leg at the Bernabeu next Wednesday. His team are currently on a stupendous run of form and are undefeated in 20 matches in all competitions. They have won nine and drawn one of their 10 Champions League matches so far and in the quarter-finals hammered Apoel Nicosia 8-2 on aggregate. They currently top La Liga, leading fierce rivals Barcelona by four points, but their supporters would love nothing more than a first Champions League trophy for 10 years.

Bayern have never lost at home to Real and have won 12 of their last 13 Champions League games at the Allianz Arena. They can be backed at 8/1 to win 2-1, while a 1-0 victory is priced at 17/2. Real can be found at 17/2 to come away with a 2-1 win, while a 2-2 draw is available at a tempting 10/1.

The match pits together two of the most lethal strikers in world football – Christiano Ronaldo and Mario Gomez. Ronaldo, who leads the first goalscorer betting at 4/1, has been in unstoppable form in La Liga this season, with an incredible 41 goals, as well as eight goals in eight Champions League appearances. If the Portuguese player scores the last goal, Paddy Power will refund all losing First Goalscorer, Last Goalscorer, Correct Score & Scorecast singles on the match. Meanwhile Gomez has 11 goals in this season’s competitions and looks a good bet at 9/2 to score first.

Real simply love scoring, having fired in three or more goals in six of their last seven matches. They can score goals from all areas of the pitch, with Karim Benzema available at 13/2 and Gonzalo Higuaín at 15/2 to open the scoring. Elsewhere Kaka, Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil have all been priced at 11/1. Meanwhile, Bayern have Arjen Robben at 6/1, Ivica Olić at 8/1 and both Franck Ribery and Thomas Muller at 9/1 to score the game’s first goal.

April 16, 2012

The BBC’s singing competition The Voice has proved to be a big hit so far with audiences and with the unique blind auditions now over, the chosen 40 contestants will now prepare for the live shows, which begin on Saturday 21st April. The refreshing new show consists of four superstar music judges: Jessie J, Will I Am, Tom Jones and Danny O’Donaghue who have so far fought it out for the stars of the future, with each judge picking 10 artists. So far the atmosphere has been relatively friendly but with so much at stake this weekend’s showis sure to heat up a notch or two.

The final contestant of the bind auditions, Jaz Ellington, was definitely worth the wait, with the 27-year-od wowing all four judges with his rendition of The A Team, followed by his emotional version of John Legend’s Ordinary, which reduced both his chosen judge Will I Am and Jessie J to tears. As a result Jaz has instantly been installed as the 6/1 favourite with Ladbrokes in the outright winner odds. Next in the running is the talented Jessica Hammond who performed an acoustic version of Jessie J’s Price Tag, along with Joelle Moses who impressed with her powerful version of Adele’s Rolling In The Deep, with both hopefuls priced at 8/1.

Another major contender is Becky Hill who is a good bet at 12/1 to win the first series of the competition. The 18-year-old from Kidderminster impressed the judges with her version of Ordinary People, and eventually opted for Jessie J as her judge, with the two ladies sure to make a quality pairing. Elsewhere Ben Kelly, David Julien, Vince Kidd, Deniece Pearson and Ruth Brown have all been handed odds of 14/1 to be crowned the winner, while outside bets at 16/1 include Max Milner, Heshima Thompson, David Faulkner and Bo Bruce.

As with all similar shows there is also a market for the winning judge, with Ladbrokes unable to separate Jessie J and Will I Am, handing both coaches odds of 7/4. Meanwhile Danny O’Donaghue is available at 7/2, while the legendary Tom Jones is priced at 9/2.

Camelot The Clear Market Leader In 2000 Guineas Betting

April 16, 2012

The new flat season is upon us in the UK and Ireland and already we are looking ahead to the first classic of the season at Newmarket. The 2000 Guineas is one of the highlights of the summer for racing fans with the very best three year-old colts taking each other on over the Rowley Mile, with that in mind the betting for the big race is really starting to hot up with a number of horses being backed at this stage.

All the talk over the winter has been about the exciting Camelot who was last seen hacking up to win the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster at the back end of 2011. The Aidan O’Brien horse jumped straight to the top of the 2000 Guineas betting following that win and at the moment Camelot is the 9/4 favourite with Paddy Power to claim the first Classic race of the season. It has to be said that at this stage Camelot is by no means a certain runner at Newmarket with connections keeping their options open which punters should keep a close eye on before having a bet.

Outside of the favourite there are a number of other horses being well backed including the exciting Most Improved who has been the subject of plenty of money over the last month or so for trainer Brian Meehan. The horse won two of his three races last season and looks to have plenty of potential which makes his current 2000 Guineas price of 4/1 with Paddy Power an attractive option. The Guineas market is always a tough one as we wait to see which horses have developed the best over the winter but it is already shaping up to be one of the best renewals in recent memory.

Arsenal v Wigan Betting – Robin Van Persie Special

April 16, 2012

Arsenal v WiganMonday, April 16th (Sky Sports 1, 8pm)

Arsenal take on Wigan at the Emirates Stadium tonight in a meeting between two in-form teams. While Arsenal look to be on their way to a 3rd place finish, Wigan’s hopes of survival have recently been given a huge boost. The Gunners head into the match as the hot 2/7 favourites for the win, while Wigan can be backed at 9/1 to come away with their second shock win in just under a week, with a draw priced at 9/2. If Robin van Persie scores the last goal in this game, Paddy Power will refund all losing First Goalscorer, Last Goalscorer, Correct Score & Scorecast singles on the match.

Three wins from their last four league games have moved Wigan up to 17th in the table and two points above the relegation zone. A week ago a win at the Emirates would have seemed an impossible task but after beating league leaders Man Utd on Wednesday – for the first in 14 attempts – they will head into tonight’s match with renewed optimism. However, their record against Arsenal is just as poor, with only one win in 13 Premier League meetings, although they did manage to hold Arsenal to a 2-2 draw at the DW Stadium last season.

Arsenal have been in scintillating form of late, winning nine of their last 10 league games. A sixth consecutive home league win tonight  will put them eight points clear of 4th-placed Tottenham and within touching distance of the third Champions League qualification spot. Despite Wigan’s recent revival an Arsenal win should be on the cards, especially considering that Arsene Wenger’s men have won all nine  home matches against their opponents.

Arsenal can be backed at 9/1 to win 3-1, while a 2-0 victory is available at 11/2. Wigan have scored in all of their last seven away matches and will be eager to score an early goal at the Emirates. The Latics are priced at 30/1 to come away with a shock 1-0 win, while a 1-1 draw can be found at 9/1. Arsenal dominate the first goalscorer odds, with Robin Van Persie the 2/1 favourite. Theo Walcott has been handed odds of 5/1, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at 13/2 and Mikel Arteta at 9/1. Wigan’s Hugo Rodallega can be backed at 12/1 to open the scoring, with Franco Di Santo and Conor Sammon both at 14/1.

Match Betting

  • 2/7 – Arsenal
  • 9/2 – Draw
  • 9/1 – Wigan Athletic

Correct Score Odds

  • 13/2 – Arsenal 1-0
  • 11/2 – Arsenal 2-0

  • 20/1 – Arsenal 3-2
