Argentina hot favourites in 2011 Copa America Betting

June 30, 2011

The 2011 Copa America gets underway this Friday (1st July) and the hosts Argentina are the hot favourites to win the tournament for the fifteenth time. Bet365 are offering a decent betting special whereby if you place a pre-match Correct Score, Half-Time/Full-Time or Scorecast bet on any match and that game finishes 0-0, then the bookmakers will refund all losing bets on those markets.

As always Argentina and Brazil are the obvious favourites. Argentina edge it in the betting due to their home advantage and, lets not forget, the abundance of high quality attacking players they have at their disposal. With a team consisting of the likes of Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez, Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero goals are most definitely on the cards. Messi comes off the back of yet another phenomenal season where he has ruthlessly torn apart some of the best defences in the world with exquisite skill and panache. The Barcelona player is the bookies favourite to come away as the tournament’s Top Goalscorer with odds of 10/3 with Bet365, but he faces some stiff competition from teammates Tevez (15/2) and Higuain (8/1).

In such an attack minded team it is crucial that you have a resolute defence with a solid backbone, something that Argentina have lacked in the past. Although hosting the tournament is a great advantage the players must not let the immense pressure and expectation get to them, otherwise they will crumble. Argentina will need no reminding that they haven’t won a Copa America since 1993.

At 2/1 Brazil look like a very good pick. Not only have they won four of the last five Copa America tournaments but they head into the tournament with an effective blend of youth and experience. In their ranks they have the talented, young Chelsea target Neymar, who caught the eye of Europe’s biggest club’s last season after his excellent performances for Santos, and the striker looks good value at 8/1 to come away with the golden boot. It is no secret that Brazil would love nothing more than to life the trophy on the soil of their fiercest rivals, which will give them extra motivation as the tournament reaches its later stages. Importantly, the Brazilians may also hold the edge mentally as they have beaten Argentina in the last two Copa America finals.

Let us not forget that this tournament does not just consist of two teams, as Uruguay can rightly be proclaimed as realistic challengers for the trophy. As they showed in their impressive run to the World Cup semi-finals in 2010, they have the talent, determination and drive to be a real force. They also have an enviable attack consisting of the lethal Luis Suárez and Diego Forlan, who can be found at 14/1 and 16/1 respectively to finish as the tournament’s leading goalscorer. If the two strikers can replicate the form they showed in South Africa then Uruguay could well be worth a punt at 10/1.

Other teams that could pose a threat to the big guns include Chile (12/1), Paraguay (18/1) and Colombia (33/1), all of whom are definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Group A – Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica

Group B – Brazil, Venezuela, Paraguay, Ecuador

GRoup C – Uruguay, Peru, Chile, Mexico

Victor Chandler North London Derby Specials

April 20, 2011

Following their respective PFA Award wins yesterday, the bookies Victor Chandler are offering some money-back deals on Gareth Bale and Jack Wilshere. If either Tottenham’s electric winger Gareth Bale or Arsenal’s wonderkid Jack Wilshere score at anytime during tonight’s match, Victor Chandler will refund all losing First Goalscorer, Correct Score and Half Time/Full Time stakes as a Free Bet.

Tonight’s match is a must-win for both London sides. Not only is local pride at stake but the Premier League title race hangs in the balance as does qualification for next season’s Champions League. Following Manchester United’s goalless draw with Newcastle last night, Arsenal (for the umpteenth time this season) have the chance to claw themselves back into the title race by narrowing the gap between themselves and United to just four points. On the other hand Tottenham desperately need the three points to draw level with Manchester City as the two clubs fight it out for the fourth Champions League spot. Spurs had a fantastic run in this year’s Champions League and are gunning for a return to Europe’s elite tournament. Failure to qualify could result in an exodus of players, including their most prized asset Gareth Bale.

Harry Redknapp’s side will be looking for their third straight league win over Arsenal and their first league double over the Gunners since 1993. Tottenham came back from two goals down to defeat Arsenal 3-2 at the Emirates earlier this season and they can be backed at 22/1 with Victor Chandler to win by the same scoreline tonight. This fixture is known for the plethora of goals the games produce and there have been ten goals in the last two meetings alone. Who can forget the dramatic 4-4 draw two season’s ago in Redknapp’s first game in charge or Arsenal’s thrilling 5-4 win at White Hart Lane back in 2004. You can definitely count on fireworks tonight at The Lane.

Manchester City given permission to rename ground

March 16, 2011

The owners of Manchester City have been given permission by Manchester City council to rename their Stadium and take advantage of the huge sponsorship deals that are out there for naming rights. Currently the stadium is known officially as the “City of Manchester Stadium” but is often referred to as Eastlands.

The club inherited the stadium in 2003 on a 250 year lease after it was used for the 2002 Commonwealth Games and moved from their old home at Maine Road. To date the club have been unable to take advantage of the potential gold mine of selling the naming rights. Other sides such as Arsenal have sold their right to Emirates in deal worth around £100 million over 10 years even lower league sides like Coventry City have bagged £10 million by having their stadium known as the Ricoh Arena.

The most likely candidate to take on the sponsorship of the stadium would be current City shirt sponsors Ethiad who according to the bookies are the favourites at odds of 6/4, but with American companies getting more involved with the sport perhaps the Budweiser Stadium could be on the cards.

Odds on who will be crowned Premier League champions is all open again

March 7, 2011

After an exciting weekend of football the race to be crowned the Premier League champions has once again been opened after Manchester United have once again stumbled.

A month ago it looked as if Sir Alex Ferguson’s side had the 2010/11 Premier League title all sewn up but after they recent losses against bottom of the table Wolves at the beginning of February and more recently the loss against Chelsea things had started to look shaky for the side then at the weekend United once again succumbed to a loss this time against Liverpool which has given Arsenal the opportunity to catch up with United. Wenger’s side are now just 3 points behind United with a game in hand if they had not drew against Sunderland at the weekend and lost out on 2 points they would be even closer.

United are still odds on to win the title but bookies Stan James have cut them from 1/2 to 8/11, Arsenal have moved from 13/8 to 9/4 whilst Chelsea have been cut from 10/1 down to 8/1 whilst Manchester City are very much an outside chance still being around the 25/1 mark.

Premier League outright winner

All odds for this market come courtesy of bookmakers Stan James.

  • 13/8 – Arsenal
  • 8/1 – Chelsea

Arsenal favourites to lift the Carling Cup this season

February 22, 2011

Arsenal make their first trip to Wembley this season as they face Birmingham City in the final of the Carling Cup. Both teams are also in with a chance of a return to Wembley later in the year as they are both still featuring in the FA Cup. Arsenal are the clear favourite out of the two teams to win the fixture at odds of 2/9 to lift the Carling Cup Trophy. Should you fancy Arsenal to go on and do the double and win the Premier League they are currently at odds of 11/4 but if you think that is too much buy that they can lift both trophies this season (FA Cup and Carling Cup) they are odds of 5/1.

Last season Birmingham only managed to get to the third round of the tournament before they were defeated 2-0 by Sunderland and Arsenal reached the fifth round before they were knocked out by a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City.

Arsenal v Birmingham match odds

All odds for this market come courtesy of internet bookmakers Paddypower.

  • 4/9 – Arsenal win
  • 13/2 – Birmingham City win
  • 10/3 – Draw

The bookmakers Paddy Power are offering punters a money back special on this game if Arsenal are leading the game at any time (during normal 90 minutes) but fails to win the game then they will refund all of the losing first and last goal scorer bets as well as the correct score and scorecast singles made on the match.

Odds point to Arsenal claiming the Carling Cup according to Boylesports

January 11, 2011

The first leg of the Carling Cup semi finals start tonight with struggling West Ham taking on fellow Premier League side Birmingham City at Upton Park. The bookies are not backing West Ham to get past the semi final stage even though they defeated Manchester United 4-0 in the quarter final stage of the tournament; however for the home leg tonight they are 6/5 to win and 23/10 for the draw, an away win for Alex McLeish’s side is at odds of 9/4.

Tomorrow night (Wednesday) will see Ipswich Town welcome Arsenal to Portman Road in the teams second match in a week against Premier League opposition for their semi final clash. New Ipswich manager Paul Jewell will be wanting his side to perform a lot better than they did against Chelsea when they were comprehensively beaten 7-0 by Chelsea in their 3rd round FA Cup clash. However at odds of 7/1 for a home win there is little faith from the bookies that this will happen, the draw is at 7/2 and the away win for Arsenal is at 2/5.

Carling Cup Outright Odds

Odds for this market come from bookmakers Boylesports.

  • 4/9 – Arsenal
  • 4/1 – Birmingham
  • 5/1 – West Ham
  • 18/1 – Ipswich

Ancelotti hoping that Chelsea can return to winning ways when they face United at the weekend

December 17, 2010

Alex Ferguson will be looking to further increase his teams lead over Chelsea when they travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday (weather of course permitting) for their next Barclays Premier League match. They have managed to leapfrog Chelsea in the table and claim the top spot from Arsenal thanks to their unbeaten run of 16 league games, but worryingly for Sir Alex they have only managed to win once out of seven away trips.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea side have now slipped down to fourth in the table and have only managed to claim six points in the last 7 games, but in their favour will be the fact that Manchester United have not managed to win in their last 9 visits to Stamford Bridge in all competitions. They will also be welcoming back Frank Lampard for his first start since August and manager Ancelotti will be hoping this will be enough to inspire a win and keep his job safe until at least after Christmas, he is currently being quoted at odds of 8/1 to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

Chelsea v Man Utd match odds

  • 6/5 – Chelsea win
  • 9/4 – Draw
  • 12/5 – Manchester United win

As part of their Christmas Cheers there is a cash back offer available on this game. If you place a bet on this match on any of the following markets; first or last goal scorer, correct score and score cast singles and the game ends in a score draw then bookmakers Paddy Power will refund all of the losing bets back into your account.

Man United favourite in betting odds to beat Man City on Wednesday

November 8, 2010

It is the game that every Mancunian football fan (and southerners who claim they have family in Manchester) loves this week, when the two Manchester sides clash in their mid-week derby game on Wednesday 10th, who will emerge as the victors City or United?

A win in this game could be crucial to Manchester United 2010/11 Premiership campaign if Sir Alex Fergusons side can capitalise on the surprise losses endured by fellow title contenders Chelsea and Arsenal at the weekend then the Red Devils could go top of the Premiership as long as Chelsea can slip up this time against London rivals Fulham.

Roberto Mancini’s Manchester side gave the troubled manager some breathing space when they recorded a win at the weekend against West Brom but the hero of the day striker Mario Balotelli will miss the fixture following his red card for kicking West Brom’s Youssuf Mulumbu during City’s 2-0 win at The Hawthorns.

Manchester City v Manchester United match odds

  • 7/4 – Manchester City win
  • 8/5 – Manchester United win
  • 11/5 – Draw

Cash back and free bet offers

There is a great incentive to place a bet on this game that comes in the form of a cash back offer from bookmaker Paddy Power and it involves a player who has played for both of these Manchester giants. If Carlos Tevez scores the last goal of the game then Paddypower will then refund all of the losing first and last goal scorer bets as well as correct score and scorecast single bets that have been made on the game. Currently the Argentinean strike is at odds of 9/2 to be the games last goal scorer and at odds of 9/2 to be the games first player on the score sheet and 11/8 to score at anytime during the game.

Can Manchester City get all 3 points against a busy Liverpool side?

August 19, 2010

The Reds kicked off their season with a 1-1 draw against Arsenal where they were leading up until the first minute of extra time when Liverpool keeper Reina fumbled a save to give the Gunners a last minute draw. Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool side face their second tough game of this seasons Premiership campaign when they take on Manchester City at the City of Manchester Stadium on Monday 23rd August, this game is squeezed in between Liverpool’s Europa League qualifying games against Turkish side Trabzonspor on the 19th and 26th August.

Reina own goal

Jose Manuel Reina disastrous own goal cost Liverpool all 3 points in their opening game of the season and is at odds of 17/2 to do it again.

Cash Back Offer

If Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez can score the last goal of this game then the internet bookmaker Paddy Power will refund all of the losing first and last goal scorer bets made on the game as well as correct score and scorecast singles.

Man City v Liverpool match odds

The serious money that Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan has pumped into Manchester is beginning to pay off as City are the favourites to win this fixture, hard to believe for a team that 10 years ago were in League One (the old third division). With Liverpool’s busy schedule of fixtures Manchester City could take advantage of a tired Liverpool side.

  • 13/10 – Manchester City win
  • 11/5 – Liverpool win
  • 11/5 – Draw
