The Carling Cup returns this week with a number of cracking Fourth Round ties as the remaining 16 teams battle it out to progress through to the Quarter-final stage. The likes of Chelsea, the Manchester clubs, Liverpool and Arsenal are still in the competition and the bookmakers Bet365 are offering a money-back special whereby if you place a pre-match Correct Score, Half-time/Full-time or Scorecast Bet on any match and it finishes 0-0 then they will refund all losing Bets on those markets.

Four-time League Cup winners Manchester United travel to League Two Aldershot Town in Tuesday night’s televised game on Sky Sports 2. United are currently the 3/1 favourites to win the competition and have been handed odds of 2/9 to win tonight’s match in 90 minutes, while Aldershot are priced at 12/1, with a draw at 5/1. Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney are both available at 9/4 to open the scoring, while a 3-0 United win looks good value at 6/1.

Arsenal are also in action on Tuesday night at home to Bolton. After reaching the final last season The Gunners will be determined to go one step better and get their hands on the trophy this time round. Arsene Wenger’s men have been handed odds of 8/1 to win the cup and 8/5 to beat Bolton, with The Trotters priced at 9/2. Tuesday’s other two matches are all-Championship ties, with Cardiff City hosting Burnley and the league leaders Southampton travelling to Crytsal Palace.

On Wednesday Manchester City, fresh from their 6-1 thrashing of United, travel to Wolves for their Fourth Round match with Roberto Mancini expected to give many of his fringe players a chance to prove themselves. City are 7/2 to win the Carling Cup and are the odds-on 1/2 favourites to beat Wolves at Molineux in 90mins. Mick McCarthy’s men are available at 6/1 to win the match, with a draw priced at 3/1. Elsewhere Bet365 have Chelsea as the 13/10 favourites to win at Everton, Liverpool at 11/10 to beat Stoke at the Britannia Stadium and Newcactle the narrow favourites to win away at Blackburn.

With the Pool stage now over attention turns to the excitement and drama of the Knock-out stage of the Rugby World Cup. While New Zealand remain the overwhelming 8/11 favourites in the Outright Winner betting, it is England who have sprung up to the 5/2 favourites in the W/O New Zealand Betting Odds. Martin Johnson’s men have a great opportunity to reach their third successive World Cup final after being placed in the opposite side of the draw to the three Southern Hemisphere teams.

England face an out of sorts France in the quarter-finals in a match they will be confident of winning following France’s recent defeat to Tonga. However, despite winning all their Pool games England have yet to fire on all cylinders and have been rocked by a series of off field problems. While England have been handed odds of 13/8 to reach the final, France available at 3/1.

Ireland, who are priced at 10/3 in the W/O New Zealand odds, have had a cracking World Cup so far, winning all their Pool games including a fantastic victory over Australia. Ireland endured a terrible build-up to the tournament but have clearly put that behind them and look like a good bet to reach the last four. However, it will not be straightforward as they will be playing a Wales side who similarly look in good form. Wales, who have odds of 9/2 in the betting, agonisingly lost their opener by one point to South Africa but have since won their three games, with convincing wins over Samoa and Fiji.

In the other two quarter-final clashes Australia take on South Africa in an intriguing match up while hosts New Zealand play Argentina. The most likely outcome in the Name The Finalists betting market is New Zealand v England, which is priced at 11/4 but don’t rule out Ireland at 4/1 to reach the finals and play the hosts.

The Carling Cup Third Round is already upon us as the remaining Premier League teams decide its time to join the party. Bet365 are offering a great money-back special whereby if you place a pre-match Correct Score, Half-time/Full-time or Scorecast Bet on any match and it finishes 0-0 then they will refund all losing Bets on those markets.

The tie of the round comes at Elland Road where Championship side Leeds face their old rivals Manchester United in what promises to be a cracking game. They may not be in the same league but the rivalry is still as hot as ever and Leeds fans would love nothing more than to inflict United’s first defeat of the season. Sir Alex Ferguson will be weary of leaving out too many of his most prized possessions as he will vividly recall United’s shock FA Cup Third Round defeat to Leeds in 2010. Man Utd are the 1/2 favourites to win the match, while Leeds are priced at 5/1, with a draw available at 10/3.

Elsewhere Championship high-flyers Brighton host Liverpool at the Falmer Stadium. Brighton may have suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday but the thought of beating Liverpool will motivate the players to bounce back in style, whereas Kenny Dalglish will consider the League Cup a priority as he aims to win his first trophy with the club since his return earlier this year. Liverpool are the odds on 4/6 favourites to come away with the win, while Brighton are 4/1 for an upset, with a draw at 11/4.

Man Utd and Man City remain the 5/1 favourites to win the 2011/12 Carling Cup, with Chelsea priced at 11/2. Liverpool can be found with odds of 13/2, while Arsenal are available at 9/1 and Tottenham at 12/1. Last year’s winners Birmingham are huge outsiders at 150/1.

The UEFA Champions League, europe’s most lucrative competition, returns to our screens this week and it is the two Spanish club’s Barcelona and Real Madrid who top the ante-post Champions League Odds table. Barcelona, the 2011 Winners and arguably one of the greatest teams of all time, are the red hot 15/8 favourites with Paddy Power, while their fierce rivals Madrid have been handed odds of 9/2 to win their first Champions League trophy since 2002.

Last year’s runners-up Man Utd are next in the running, and the leading English team, with odds of 7/1. United have suffered two Final defeats to Barcelona in the last three years and will be desperate to go one step better this time round. They have enjoyed a cracking start to the new Premier League season and have been handed a relatively straight forward group in Europe so they should make the knock-out stage with ease. Champions League new boys Man City have been priced at 10/1 to win at the first time of asking, while Chelsea are available at 11/1 and Arsenal are 25/1. If you are looking for an outside bet the 2004 Winners Porto are available at 33/1.

Arsenal and Chelsea are both in action on Tuesday against Bundesliga teams, with The Gunners travelling to Germany for a tricky game against Borussia Dortmund, and Chelsea hosting Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge. Man City get their first taste of the Champions League on Wednesday at home to Napoli while Man Utd are away to Benfica. Paddy Power have Sir Alex Ferguson’s men as the 13/8 favourites to finish as the Top English Team, while England are priced at 7/4 to be the Winning Nationality.

Transfer deadline day is always an immensely exciting time as managers seek to make some last ditch signings to bolster their squads. This window they have until 11pm on Wednesday 31st August to make some audacious last minute bids and tie up loose ends. We all know what happened on deadline day last January when Chelsea splashed out £50m to sign Fernando Torres which Liverpool instantly spent a large portion on Andy Carroll for an incredible £35m. Sky Bet are currently offering some great football specials all based on the close of the transfer window so make the most of them while they last.

All the talk currently surrounds Arsenal and who they will spend their Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri money on. The Gunners are in real trouble following their 8-2 thrashing at the hands of Man Utd and are in desperate need of some high quality signings in order to get their season back on track and cool the cauldron of pressure on manager Arsene Wenger. Top of Arsenal’s list is the Bolton defender Gary Cahill who is priced at 1/2 to leave the club this summer. Sky Bet have his most likely destination Arsenal at 8/11 while Tottenham are also in the running at 4/1.

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the future of Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric this summer but with Chelsea recently purchasing Juan Mata his move to Stamford Bridge now seems unlikely. The Croatian can be found with odds of 6/4 to stay at Spurs and 1/2 to leave. Harry Redknapp is eager to bring in Scott Parker, who is available at 1/2 to leave West Ham and 6/4 to stay, while Peter Crouch, Jermaine Jenas and Roman Pavlyuchenko could all be on their way out of White Hart Lane.

Another ongoing transfer is that of Carlos Tevez. The Argentine is 7/4 to leave Man City with his most likely destination currently Inter Milan at 6/4 with Real Madrid also in the frame at 5/2. There are also rumours in Madrid that Kaka is set to move to the Premier League with Spurs the 5/2 favourites to snap him up.

We are just days away from the start of the new Premier League season and one of the central talking points is who the main contenders for the sought after Golden Boot award are. Last season there was an avalanche of goals but strangely not one player who set the league alight with a flurry of individual goals, which is perhaps reflected in the low winning Golden Boot tally of 20, shared by Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov. This season the league’s strikers will be looking to make amends and return in blistering fashion with an abundance of goals. This is always a popular betting market to take advantage of some great pre-season odds with Betfred.

Wayne Rooney has been installed as the 8/1 favourite to finish as the 2011/12 Top Goalscorer. To many football fans this may come as a surprise as Rooney has firsty never actually got his hands on the award and secondly is not known for his prolific goalscoring record. Rooney endured a difficult start to the 2010/11 season as he not only had to bounce back from a woeful World Cup campaign but had to learn how to regain the United faithful’s love and trust following the furore over his future. However, the 25-year-old is chracterised by his trademark grit and determination and will no doubt be determined to open his account early this season. Rooney’s Mexican teammate Javier Hernandez is narrowly behind him in the betting, with odds of 17/2. ‘Chicharito’ was the surprise package last season – he scored 20 goals for United, 13 of which came in the league, and he will be looking to continue that streak into the new season. If both Rooney and Hernandez are firing on all cylinders then United have a lethal partnership at their disposal.

With all the attention on Rooney and Hernandez, it is difficult to remember that last year’s Golden Boot winner was actually Dimitar Berbatov, who scored 20 goals despite regular appearances from the bench towards the latter half of the season. The Bulgarian has been handed odds of 20/1 to retain his title but it is difficult to judge how many starts he is going to get. All three strikers will be benefited by wingers Antonio Valencia, Nani (18 assists last season) and new recruit Ashley Young who will be firing in inch perfect crosses for them to latch onto.

United’s fierce rivals Manchester City have again spent heavily, this time splashing out a whopping £38m for the extremely talented Sergio Aguero from Athletico Madrid. The striker has, rather surprisingly, been handed relatively short odds of 12/1 to finish as the Premier League’s Top Goalscorer. Although he certainly has the ability to score a bucket load of goals, he will probably take some time to settle as he won’t be used to the speed and physical nature of the Premier League. Carlos Tevez has been handed odds of 14/1, which would certainly represent good value if you knew that the Argentine was definitely staying at the club. Edin Dzeko has been priced at 20/1 while controversial striker Mario Balotelli could be worth a gamble at 25/1.

Outside of Manchester there is of course an abundance of other talented hitsman looking to make their mark this season. Top of the list is Chelsea’s Fernando Torres who will be more determined than ever to start smashing in the goals after mustering just a solitary goal last season after his big-money move to Stamford Bridge. The Spaniard is available at 9/1, while his teammates and former winners of the award, Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka are available at 14/1 and 25/1 respectively.

Providing he stays injury free Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie is a great shout at 9/1. The Dutchman was sensation in the second half of 2011 and everyone associated the club will be hoping he can continue in that rich vein of form into the new season. However, his tally may not be too high if playmakers Cesc Fabregas and Samuel Nasri were to leave the club this summer. The duo’s workrate and ability to pick out Van Persie is crucial to him finding the back of the net. Elsewhere you get the feeling that Liverpool are due a big season and last January they recruited two magnificent signings in Luis Suarez (12/1) and Andy Carroll (20/1) and both will be eager to get off to a flying start in their first full season with the club. Lets not forget the proven Premier League goalscorer Darren Bent who is definitely worth a punt at 12/1.

Newcastle United are inexcusably letting one of their best players, Joey Barton, leave for free this summer, a decision that will surely infuriate the majority of their supporters, whose patience was severely tested last month after the departure of their captain and most inspirational player Kevin Nolan. Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has reportedly grown tired of Barton’s unflattering tweets about the club and its hierarchy and as a result has lost patience with the player and given him the boot. In the past six months Ashley has let his three best players leave the club, the other being Andy Carroll for £35m in the January transfer window, whilst failing to bring in any players that are likely to capture the imagination of the club’s passionate supporters.

Barton is certainly not the most popular of players, but few can deny his talent, ability and determination. The 28-year-old put in a number of high quality performances for the Magpies last season, which helped the club achieve a respectable 12th place finish in their first season back in the Premier League. Newcastle’s surprise decision to release the midfielder opens up an intriguing betting market as a number of big club’s begin to express their interest in snapping up the player on a free transfer.

Barton is not short of self-confidence and often boasts about how he is one of the most gifted midfielders in England, so it is almost certain that he will opt for a club in England’s top flight. The bookmakers Betfred have placed Tottenham as the 5/2 favourites to secure the services of Barton. If anyone can get the best of the contentious player then it’s surely Harry Redknapp, who is well known for his player-management and motivational skills. Elsewhere, Everton are in the running with odds of 100/30, as are Arsenal at 9/2 and Stoke City at 11/2. Defending Premier League champions Man Utd are also up there at 8/1, however, at present they are more concerned with prizing Wesley Sneijder away from Inter Milan.

Betfred also have Barton at just 6/1 to follow in Nolan’s footsteps and join Championship club West Ham and long odds of 50/1 to return to his former club Man City, with the same odds to join Premier League giants Chelsea.

Whoever Barton decides to join is definitely in for an entertaining ride. If the player can continue to control his aggression and fiery temper, as he did last season, then football supporters can start to enjoy the more positive aspects of his game that can make him a welcome addition to many top flight clubs.

The 2011 Copa America gets underway this Friday (1st July) and the hosts Argentina are the hot favourites to win the tournament for the fifteenth time. Bet365 are offering a decent betting special whereby if you place a pre-match Correct Score, Half-Time/Full-Time or Scorecast bet on any match and that game finishes 0-0, then the bookmakers will refund all losing bets on those markets.

As always Argentina and Brazil are the obvious favourites. Argentina edge it in the betting due to their home advantage and, lets not forget, the abundance of high quality attacking players they have at their disposal. With a team consisting of the likes of Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez, Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero goals are most definitely on the cards. Messi comes off the back of yet another phenomenal season where he has ruthlessly torn apart some of the best defences in the world with exquisite skill and panache. The Barcelona player is the bookies favourite to come away as the tournament’s Top Goalscorer with odds of 10/3 with Bet365, but he faces some stiff competition from teammates Tevez (15/2) and Higuain (8/1).

In such an attack minded team it is crucial that you have a resolute defence with a solid backbone, something that Argentina have lacked in the past. Although hosting the tournament is a great advantage the players must not let the immense pressure and expectation get to them, otherwise they will crumble. Argentina will need no reminding that they haven’t won a Copa America since 1993.

At 2/1 Brazil look like a very good pick. Not only have they won four of the last five Copa America tournaments but they head into the tournament with an effective blend of youth and experience. In their ranks they have the talented, young Chelsea target Neymar, who caught the eye of Europe’s biggest club’s last season after his excellent performances for Santos, and the striker looks good value at 8/1 to come away with the golden boot. It is no secret that Brazil would love nothing more than to life the trophy on the soil of their fiercest rivals, which will give them extra motivation as the tournament reaches its later stages. Importantly, the Brazilians may also hold the edge mentally as they have beaten Argentina in the last two Copa America finals.

Let us not forget that this tournament does not just consist of two teams, as Uruguay can rightly be proclaimed as realistic challengers for the trophy. As they showed in their impressive run to the World Cup semi-finals in 2010, they have the talent, determination and drive to be a real force. They also have an enviable attack consisting of the lethal Luis Suárez and Diego Forlan, who can be found at 14/1 and 16/1 respectively to finish as the tournament’s leading goalscorer. If the two strikers can replicate the form they showed in South Africa then Uruguay could well be worth a punt at 10/1.

Other teams that could pose a threat to the big guns include Chile (12/1), Paraguay (18/1) and Colombia (33/1), all of whom are definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Group A – Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica

Group B – Brazil, Venezuela, Paraguay, Ecuador

GRoup C – Uruguay, Peru, Chile, Mexico

Following their respective PFA Award wins yesterday, the bookies Victor Chandler are offering some money-back deals on Gareth Bale and Jack Wilshere. If either Tottenham’s electric winger Gareth Bale or Arsenal’s wonderkid Jack Wilshere score at anytime during tonight’s match, Victor Chandler will refund all losing First Goalscorer, Correct Score and Half Time/Full Time stakes as a Free Bet.

Tonight’s match is a must-win for both London sides. Not only is local pride at stake but the Premier League title race hangs in the balance as does qualification for next season’s Champions League. Following Manchester United’s goalless draw with Newcastle last night, Arsenal (for the umpteenth time this season) have the chance to claw themselves back into the title race by narrowing the gap between themselves and United to just four points. On the other hand Tottenham desperately need the three points to draw level with Manchester City as the two clubs fight it out for the fourth Champions League spot. Spurs had a fantastic run in this year’s Champions League and are gunning for a return to Europe’s elite tournament. Failure to qualify could result in an exodus of players, including their most prized asset Gareth Bale.

Harry Redknapp’s side will be looking for their third straight league win over Arsenal and their first league double over the Gunners since 1993. Tottenham came back from two goals down to defeat Arsenal 3-2 at the Emirates earlier this season and they can be backed at 22/1 with Victor Chandler to win by the same scoreline tonight. This fixture is known for the plethora of goals the games produce and there have been ten goals in the last two meetings alone. Who can forget the dramatic 4-4 draw two season’s ago in Redknapp’s first game in charge or Arsenal’s thrilling 5-4 win at White Hart Lane back in 2004. You can definitely count on fireworks tonight at The Lane.

The owners of Manchester City have been given permission by Manchester City council to rename their Stadium and take advantage of the huge sponsorship deals that are out there for naming rights. Currently the stadium is known officially as the “City of Manchester Stadium” but is often referred to as Eastlands.

The club inherited the stadium in 2003 on a 250 year lease after it was used for the 2002 Commonwealth Games and moved from their old home at Maine Road. To date the club have been unable to take advantage of the potential gold mine of selling the naming rights. Other sides such as Arsenal have sold their right to Emirates in deal worth around £100 million over 10 years even lower league sides like Coventry City have bagged £10 million by having their stadium known as the Ricoh Arena.

The most likely candidate to take on the sponsorship of the stadium would be current City shirt sponsors Ethiad who according to the bookies are the favourites at odds of 6/4, but with American companies getting more involved with the sport perhaps the Budweiser Stadium could be on the cards.
