June 22, 2009 · Print This Article
Wimbledon 2009 is under way and the bookmakers odds for the Mens singles title looks a two horse race between Roger Federer and Adny Murray after current champion Rafael Nadal had to pull out of the Championships due to injury.
It is Federer who is the clear favourite at odds of 8/11 with Ladbrokes to add a sixth Wimbledon title to his ever growing roll of honour, a win that would move him to just one champiosnhip win behind current Wimbledon record holder Pete Sampras.
However, if he is to continue re-writing the history books, he must over come a player who is also attempting to make history and become the first British player to win Wimbledon for the first time in 73 years! Andy Murray will be carrying the hopes of a nation on to the famous All England Lawn Tennis Club Courts over the next couple of weeks as he bids to emulate what Fred Perry last achieved in 1936. He is is the shorest odds that any British male player has ever been heading in to the tournament at 7/4 in the betting but must win his first Grand Slam if he is to do so.
