Napoli vs Chelsea – Tuesday 21st February (Sky Sports 2. 19.45)
Chelsea will look to put their stuttering form behind them when they travel to Italy to face Napoli in the first-leg of their last 16 Champions League clash. Under-fire manager Andre Villas-Boas will be fully aware of the threat that Napoli possess and will be desperate for a decent result in order to quieten the critics. The Serie A side have an outstaying record at the Stadio San Paolo and inflicted a damaging 2-1 defeat upon Robero Mancini’s Manchester City in the group stages. They head into the match as the 13/10 favourites with Paddy Power, while Chelsea can be backed at 11/5 to come away with a priceless win, meanwhile a draw is also available at odds of 11/5.
Chelsea are lacking in confidence at the moment after four matches without a win. They played out a lacklustre 1-1 draw at home to Championship side Birmingham at the weekend and they have been plagued by recent reports of player unrest. The Blues do not have the best of records in Italy having won just one of their nine matches in the country and if they do not come away with a positive result you feel they will struggle to qualify for the quarter-finals. Napoli can be backed at 8/1 to go into the second-leg with a 2-1 advantage, while they are priced at 11/2 to win 1-0. Chelsea are available at 7/1 to record a 1-0, while a 1-1 draw could be the way to go at 5/1.
Napoli have a fearsome frontline and will be looking to take advantage of Chelsea’s wobbly defence. With odds of 11/2 Edinson Cavani leads the betting in the First Goalscorer market, while Ezequiel Lavezzi is available at 13/2 and Cristiano Lucarelli at 7/1. Didier Drogba, who is a welcome presence in the Chelsea attack following his return from the African Cup of Nations, can be backed at 6/1 to open the scoring, with Daniel Sturridge priced at 15/2.
