All eyes will be on Anfield on Wednesday night when Liverpool meet Chelsea in the first leg of the of the Champions League Quarter Finals. Liverpool are the marginal favourite in the bookmakers odds to win both the game at Anfield and to qualify to the Semi Finals, however at odds about qualifying are very close, with Paddypower actually unable to split the two and go 10/11 about the both teams.
Liverpool are 11/8 favourites with Paddy Power to take a lead to next week’s return leg at Stamford Bridge, but these two sides are no strangers having met no fewer than 19 times in the past four years, eight of those meeting shave been in the Champions League, in a clash that has become an annual occurance since Liverpool beat the Blues en route to victory in the 2005 Champions League Final in 2005.
Liverpool will be full of confidence heading in to this encounter on the back of a league double over Chelsea already this season, winning 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in october and 2-0 at Anfield in February. However, the one difference when they meet on Wednesday will be the presence of new Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink in the Chelsea dugout, an addition that the Chelsea faithful will be hoping will have a similar affect on the team as Avram Grant did when the Blues beat Liverpool on their way to Moscow for last season’s Final.
Last seasons Champions League clash between these two sides finsihed 1-1 and Paddypower go 9/2 about a repeat scorline. On the four occasions that Liverpool have met Chelsea at Anfield in the Champions League, the Reds have never managed to score more than one goal against their opponents and based on this stat, if Liverpool are to take a lead in to the second leg, it is likely to be a slender 1-0, which can be backed also at odds of 9/2.
Chelsea are sure to be happy to take a draw from this game (2/1) but the away win is sure to tempt a few people at generous looking odds of 23/10.
If you plan to have a bet on this live Sky game, then Paddy Power is certainly the palce to go. The Irish bookmaker is offerign to refund all first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast bets on this game if Steven Gerrard scores the last goal of the game.
