The Breeders Cup Marathon is in only in its second year having its inaugural race at last years Breeders Cup where it was run over a distance of 1.5 miles, this has been extended in the 2009 race by 2 furlongs taking it to 14 furlongs in total (1.75 miles). The race is open to horses aged three years old and up, and it has a very healthy $500,000 purse on offer. The race will run from Santa Anita racecourse in the early hours of Saturday morning and can be watched on ESPN2.

Last years winner Muhannak is not in the leading pack and is down at odds of 10/1, the favourite for the race is Mastery ridden by Leo Dettori, the second favourite is Father Time ridden by Eddie Ahern, the freebetsblog.com tip for this race is going to be the 12/1 Cloudys Knight well worth an each way bet.
