Expect Guineas Antepost Odds to Change following Saturday’s Dewhurst

The Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday (17th October) brings down the curtain on the flat season at the HQ of racing and one of the feature races on the card, the Group One Dewhurst Stkaes, will also spell the end of the season for the leading two year olds.
With a prize of over £180,000 to the winner, the Dwehurst Stakes is one of the most prestigious juvenile events of the Flat Season and attracts the leading two year olds in training, the majority of whom will harbour big hopes for next season as three year olds with two of the last four winners of the race (Sir Percy and New Approach) having gone on to win the Epsom Derby. The outcome of Saturday’s renewal is sure have some impact on the antepost markets for both the 2010 Guineas and Derby betting.
The favourite for this year’s Dewhurst is Irish Raider, Chabal, trained by James Bolger who has trained the winner of this race for the past three years and bids for a fourth consecutive success with this Galileo Colt. A 7/4 chance with Ladbrokes he certainly looks the one to beat judged on his second behind the highly rated Kingsfort last time out and it is difficult to argue with the trainers eye for a horse capable of winning this race. If you want a longer term investment on this runner then the 12/1 about a 2,000 Guineas success and 16/1 about a Derby win (both with Bet365) could look like great value bets come Saturday afternoon.

Steinbeck is the second favourite and is a 4/1 chance for fellow Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien, whose last victory in this race came back in 2001 with Rock of Gibraltar. The pick of the English trained runners are Silver Grecian and Xtension but both will have to improve to compete with the market principals on form.
