English Trained Fillies Head the Epsom Oaks Betting

A quartet of English trained Fillies head the betting for Friday’s Investec Oaks at Epsom Downs Racecourse, in what promises to be a great race with the Michael Bell trained Sariska the market leader at odds of  5/2 with Ladbrokes. She won the Musidora Stakes at York  in May in impressive fashion, staying on strongly to suggest that the 1 mile 4 furlongs around Epsom shouldn’t be a problem and has been shortening in the betting ever since.

Rainbow View is the second favourite for the race and the John Gosden trained Filly disappointed when finishing 5th in the 1,000 Guineas as the odds on favourite. This is the first time she has been seen since that run and based on her two year old form, she is clearly not short of ability and the step up in trip and more prefferred going at Epsom may show her in a better light.

Ladbrokes Epsom Oaks Odds
Sariska 5/2
Rainbow View 3/1
Midday 4/1
Phillipina 8/1
Perfect Truth 7/1
Oh Goodness Me 14/1
Three Moons 20/1
High Heeled 25/1
Wadaat 40/1
The Miniver Rose 33/1
Nashmiah 40/1
Tottie 100/1

Midday is one of the more interesting runners in the race, trained by Henry Cecil, who has won this race a total of eight time in the past 25 years years. Based on this stat alone, the 4/1 about Midday represents great value for a yard who win this race on average, once every three years. Her from isn’t bad either, having won the Lingfield Oaks Trial last time out, a race that has produced three oaks winners in the past 15 years and last year’s Oaks winner finsihed second in the same trial.

Phillipina and Perfect Truth make up the leading contenders (8/1 and 7/1 respectively) and the two were inseperable when they met  in the Cheshire Oaks in May, with Perfect Truth getting the better of the Sir Michael Stoute runner by a short head. Phillipina has yet to win a race and it looks a tough assignment in a race like the Oaks to lose her Maiden tag , whilst Perfect Turth represents the best Irish hope in the race and the Aidan O’Brien runner should not be ruled out with her pedigree (Daughter of Derby winner, Galileo) suggesting that she will relish the stamina testing trip around Epsom.
