Its quite a way off until December when the winner of the BBC Sports Personality of the year will be announced and the producers of the event are yet to even create a shortlist of the nominated sports stars who will be up for contention, but following his amazing win at the Grand National last week jockey Tony McCoy could well be on his way to becoming the first proper jockey to win the event. Past winners of the award that have ridden horses have only been equestrian riders such as Princess Anne in 1971 and more recently in 2006 when her daughter Zara Phillips for winning world and European equestrian titles.

The internet bookies Bet 365 have released their list of the top ten likely contenders, the list includes 3 footballers and 2 F1 drivers their odds could dramatically increase or decrease depending how England do in World Cup in South Africa and who wins the 2010 F1 Championship.
