After the furore of the audition process, the brutality of bootcamp and the high tension of Judges’ Houses, X Factor is at long last through to the live shows. There were a few surprises in Judges’ Houses last week with Kelly Rowland deciding not to include the popular Jade Richards and Tulisa Contostavlos controversially forming a new band. However, what doesn’t come as a surprise is that Janet Devlin remains the bookmakers favourite to win this years competition.

The 16-year-old is currently priced at 3/1 with William Hill but is closely followed by fellow female category singer Amelia Lily who is available at 9/2. The self-confessed ladies man Frankie Cocozza is next in the running with odds of 7/1, with Misha Bryan, Marcus Collins, James Michael and Sophie Habibis all just behind with odds of 10/1. The high pitched Johnny Robinson is the show’s outsider at 50/1.

In other markets Rhythmix are the 5/2 favourites to be eliminated first, with the eccentric Kitty Brucknell at 4/1 and 2 Shoes at 6/1. At the end of last week’s episode it was revealed that there is a big twist in store which has caused many fans to speculate that Simon Cowell is going to make a return to the show, with the music guru is available at 8/1 to replace any judge during the series. William Hill also have odds of 12/1 for a judge to quit on their own accord before the end. Kelly Rowland is still the favourite to finish as the Winning Manager, with odds of 4/5, while Louis Walsh remains the odds on 4/6 favourite to be the First Manager Out.

With a couple of really competitive National Hunt meetings at Stratford and Newbury and two AW meetings at Kempton and Lingfield, racing fans will have plenty of options this weekend. However the feature meeting is without doubt the Dubai World Cup at Meydan, which will see the Henry Cecil trained multiple group one winner, Twice Over make his attempt to win the world’s richest horse race. The card at Meydan is a cracker and will feature plenty of British and Irish interest, including a few rare Dubai entries from the Aidan O’Brien stable.

Meydan 1.15 – Al Quoz Sprint 5f

The meeting gets underway with a Group two sprint which should see the warm order favourite JJ The Jet Plane take the top prize. The seven year old looked back to his best a fortnight ago when winning the Finest Surprise Handicap over six furlongs on the turf on this track. Although his best performances have come over six furlongs, the five furlongs in this should not trouble him. Each way interests could be applied to both Inxile from the Dandy Nicholls yard and Triple Aspect who is trained by William Haggas and will be the mount of Ryan Moore.

Selection: JJ The Jet Plane @ 2/1 with Paddy Power or Ladbrokes

Meydan 1.50 – Godolphin Mile 1m

This could be a very competitive Group Two where the Barry Hills trained Red Jazz will likely go off as the favourite. He is the highest rated horse in the race but he has not won over this trip in the past, nor has he been on a Tapeta surface. One who has however is the Godolphin trained Skysurfers, who won over course and trip a month ago when taking the Listed Firebreak Stakes. That run will have put him spot on as Godolphin look to claim the race named after them.

Selection: Skysurfers @ 5/1 with Victor Chandler

Meydan 2.25 – UAE Derby 1m 1f

The third Group Two of the afternoon should see the Godolphin pair of Khawlah and Xin Xu Lin go off as the top two in the market, however this is a very open looking race, where strong challenges can be expected from the Mike De Kock trained Mahbooba, winner of the UAE 1000 Guineas a few weeks ago and who finished second behind Khawlah in the UAE Oaks on 24th February. There is also two entries from Ballydoyle, Alexander Pope and Master Of Hounds, the latter being the highest rated horse in the race.

Selection: Khawlah @ 4/1 with Bet365

Meydan 3.05 – Golden Shaheen 6f

The first Group One race of the afternoon should produce a cracking contest and which could see Kinsale King take the race for the second successive year for Carl O’Callaghan. However the favourite will be Rocket Man, who was second behind Kinsale King 12 months ago and who has never finished outside of the first two in any of his 17 starts.

Selection: Rocket Man @ 7/4 with Coral

Meydan 3.45 – The Dubai Duty Free 1m1f

With Wigmore Hall representing the Michael Bell stable and Presvis trained by Luca Cumani looking likely to dispute favouritism, this Group One could be a very close affair, particularly as there are several others all in with big chances. Mendip from the Saeed Bin Suroor stable has won twice at Group Three level during the 2011 Dubai Carnival and is in top form, whilst Bankable won a Group Three over six furlongs as a warm up for his attempt to claim this race after finishing second last year.

Selection: Mendip @ 8/1 with Boylesports of Victor Chandler

Meydan 4.50 – Sheema Classic 1m4f

The penultimate race of the afternoon could see the 2010 Epsom Derby third, Rewilding, claim his biggest prize to date. Trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni for Godolphin, this four year old is certainly one of major the class horse’s in the race and will go off favourite, but punters should follow the market with regard to the support for the Japanese entry, Rulership, a Group Two winner in Japan and the Brian Meehan trained Dangerous Midge, winner of the Breeders Cup Turf back in November. There has also been market support for the Barry Hills trained Redwood.

Selection: Dangerous Midge @ 5/1 with Bet365 or Paddy Power

Meydan 5.35 – Dubai World Cup

The richest race in the world should see a huge effort by the Henry Cecil trained Twice Over to take the race and justify the place at the top of the Dubai World Cup odds and in doing so, get the Cecil yard off to the perfect start as the new flat season looms. Winner of the Round 3 of the Al Maktoum Challenge a couple of weeks ago, the 6 year old is said to be in top form and raring to go. He has been heavily backed and is now as short as 5/2 and will go off as a very warm order favourite. There has also been support for the Aidan ‘Brien trained Cape Blanco, winner of the 2010 Irish Derby, but who has only just arrived in Dubai and who has not been seen on track since finishing down the field in the 2010 Arc de Triomphe. Big runs can also be expected from Gio Ponti, Poets Voice and the Japanese entry Victoire Pisa.

Selection: Twice Over @ 11/4 with Coral

The Grade 3 Racing Post Chase is the big betting race of the weekend which takes place at Kempton Park on Saturday afternoon and is supported by three cracking Grade 2 races that are all trials for the forthcoming Cheltenham Festival. Here’s a look at the feature races and hopefully a few pointers in the direction of finding a couple of winners…

1.55 Kempton Park – Adonis Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 2)

Plenty of talented juveniles have been entered for this opener with the Triumph Hurdle being the target for at least some of those on show. Nicky Henderson won this race last year with Soldatino which of course went on to take the ‘Triumph’ at the Festival and the brilliant trainer might well try something similar this year with Celtus, who will be having his first run in this country since arriving from France.

Henderson is clearly impressed by this horse which is likely to start as the favourite but he will also be represented by Molotof, another Juvenile to have arrived at Seven Barrows from France.

Tim Vaughan who is rapidly making a big name for himself in the National Hunt has a very smart pair of runners in the unbeaten First Fandango and Architrave who won his first three starts in great style but appeared to be out of his depth when well beaten last time in the Triumph Hurdle Trial at Cheltenham back in November in a race won by Sam Winner.

Please note that both of these runners as well as several others have also got entries for the Dovecote Novices Hurdle later in the afternoon.

Selection: Celtus

2.25 Kempton Park – Pendil Novice Chase (Grade2)

Most eyes will be on the performance of the Phillip Hobbs, Captain Chris, who is 14/1 with paddy power the Arkle at Cheltenham and looks to have the right credentials to win this Grade 2. The seven year old has finished second in each of his four races so far this season, but showed on his last run that he has plenty left at the end and if amongst them at the last then he will be hard to beat. He also looks a very promising bet for the Arkle trophy Chase which takes place on the first day at the forthcoming Cheltenham Festival.

He will be up against, amongst others the talented five year old, Royal Charm who will be stepping up in class after two very encouraging wins over fences this season.

Selection: Captain Chris

3.00 Kempton Park – Racing Post Chase (Grade 3)

This looks a very difficult race to call with any number in with chances. Fistral Beach from the Paul Nicholls yard will likely go off as the favourite but there are plenty of doubts about his jumping ability so he is best left alone on this occasion.

Alan King has been quite bullish about the chances of his Bakbenscher and there is plenty of support around for the Phillip Hobbs trained Quinz who is one of two entries for this race from Hobbs who has saddled three winners of this renewal in the last few years.
Last year’s winner Razor Royale will be looking for back to back wins, but will need to show better form than he has so far this season. The 9 year old is one of the entries from the yard of Nigel Twiston-Davies, the other being recent Wetherby winner, Crescent Island who will be having only his second race after a lay-off of almost two years. It is interesting to note that Paddy Brennan, the Twiston-Davies stable jockey has elected to ride last year’s runner up and 2009 winner, Nacarat who will carry top weight.

Selection: Bakbenscher @ 9/1 with Victor Chandler

Yet another cracking weekend of National Hunt racing awaits, allowing punters and racing fans alike to get their notebooks out looking to see those who will go on to run at the forthcoming Cheltenham Festival.

This weekend however is also a big weekend for Grand National followers, with the official Grand National Trial being run at Haydock on Saturday, but there is also the Weatherby Bloodstock Insurance Chase and the Betfair Chase both at Ascot which has entries for both Cheltenham and Aintree.

Over in Ireland it is Red Mills day at Gowran Park which has a superb card, including the Grade 2 Red Mills Trial Hurdle which will see the return to the racecourse of the very exciting Dunguib.

Potted previews of each of the top races this weekend are made below which is followed by the usual ‘Yankee’.

1.50 Ascot – Reynoldstown Novice Chase 3m (Grade 2)
An excellent trial for the RSA Chase at Cheltenham which brings together several very talented novices, two of which are from the Paul Nicholls stable and both could run well. The first of those however, Aiteen Thirtythree a dual winner this season, including a Grade 2 at Newbury is the pick from stablemate The Minack. Dangers lie in Master Of The Hall and the Tim Vaughan trained, Beshabar.
Tip: Aiteen Thirtythree

2.25 Ascot – Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Chase 3m (Grade 3)
A difficult race to find the winner, but Piraya from the David Pipe yard looks to be on a good mark following some consistent performances. The Pipe stable has a very good record in Handicaps at Ascot and this 8 year old should be capable of improving it.
Tip: Piraya.

2.50 Gowran Park – Red Mills Trial Hurdle 2m (Grade 2)
If all those declared in the latest declarations then this race could be a classic with several big name runners, headed by Dunguib who will be making his seasonal reappearance. Also a likely runner is Fiveforthree who successfully returned to the racecourse earlier this week following a 22 month absence to easily win the Today Hurdle at Punchestown. Voler La Vedette is another high profile entry, this mare has been busy all season but never looked more impressive than she did last week when winning the Grade 2 Boyne Hurdle.
Tip: Fiveforthree

3.00 Ascot – Betfair Ascot Chase 2m5f (Grade 2)
On paper this is a straight race between Pride Of Dulcote and Riverside Theatre, however the Tom George trained Tartak could spring a surprise. Riverside Theatre is certainly the yardstick, his second place in the Grade One King George Chase last month is the best form in the race. A repeat of that performance he wins.
Tip: Riverside Theatre

3.20 Haydock – Grand National Trial 3m 4f (Grade 3)
A cracking race in prospect and one in which a case could be made for at least 80% of the runners. Alan King’s West End Rocker will likely go off favourite, but the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained, Major Malarkey looks to be well in with the weights and has been in good form this season.
Tip: Major Malarkey

3.45 Wincanton –Kingwell Hurdle 2m (Grade 2)
Many of the original entries for this Grade Two will have ran elsewhere before this race starts meaning that the field will almost certainly be a reduced one. However it should include the exciting novice Silviniaco Conti from the Paul Nicholls yard, who will be taking on Overturn from the Donald McCain yard with the highly regarded Mille Chief, trained by Alan King probably going off as favourite.
Tip: Overturn

Saturday’s Win Yankee:
Aiteen Thirtythree
Piraya
Major Malarkey
Overturn.

There is plenty of exciting racing for National Hunt fans this Saturday, with an excellent meeting at Ffos Las, who will be hosting the Welsh Champion Hurdle, while at Sandown there is the Listed Contenders Hurdle, the Grade One, Scilly Isles Novice Chase and the Grade Three Heroes Handicap Hurdle to get stuck into. There is also the Grade Two, Towton Novices Chase at Wetherby. Here we look at the best tips for this weekends racing ahead, kick starting a busy month in which we will be building up to Cheltenham Festival tips with the feature of the National Hunt season fast approaching.

Welsh Champion Hurdle – 2.40 Ffos Las
Although ungraded at the present time this race has attracted a top quality field of runners, which was to include Peddlers Cross, who is currently the second favourite for the Champion Hurdle, however, Donald McCain his trainer has pulled him out of racing this weekend due to him having developed a cough at the yard. It would appear that McCain will also pull his other entry, Overturn from racing this weekend too for precautionary reasons.

Their absence’s leaves the race wide open for the Nicky Henderson trained, Oscar Whisky, although he will probably now go off as a very short price favourite. He was last seen last month winning the Three Counties Hurdle at Cheltenham where he had the useful McCain trained, Any Given Day well beaten behind. Also behind him by a ‘street’ that day was the Evan Williams trained, Barizan, who is the best of four entries from the Williams stable who run in this. Oscar Whisky is owned by Ffos Las racecourse owner, Dai Walters.

Won In The Dark who is over from Ireland has run in top class company in the past but without too much success. He clearly has a bit of class about him and he might be the one for the forecast.

Tip: Oscar Whisky (Nap), NB Won In The Dark

Contenders Hurdle – 1.55 Sandown (Listed)
With so many double entries this week, this race might suffer from attracting a decent field. As it stands currently if trainer, Evan Williams takes his team to Ffos Las there will be only three runners in this race with Champion Hurdle favourite Binocular looking unbeatable.

Tip: Binocular

Scilly Isles Novice Chase – 2.25 Sandown (Grade 1)
A cracking field of novices should produce a great race over the 2½ miles. Captain Chris, who disappointed when favourite last time out when a clumsy looking second behind Ghizao in the Andover Novices Chase at Newbury will be looking to redeem himself and trainer, Phillip Hobbs who thinks highly of him and has him entered in the Arkle Trophy Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. He should run well and provided he gets round the course he will go very close.

Tip: Captain Chris

Heroes Handicap Hurdle – 3.00 Sandown (Grade 3)
There are three obvious candidates to win this race, Alfie Spinner from the Nick Williams yard, the Nicky Henderson trained, Lush Life and Mister Hyde trained by Jonjo O’Neill. Lush Life however is the one to be on this weekend. He actually defeated Menorah this time last year before Menorah went on to win the Supreme Novices Hurdle and who is now one of the favourites to win the Champion Hurdle next month at Cheltenham. He was well beaten by Grands Crus in the Paddy Power Intermediate Hurdle at Cheltenham in November, but proved his staying ability by winning his last race, the CITIPOST Handicap Hurdle over 3 miles, also at Cheltenham.

Tip : Lush Life @ 7/1 with Paddy Power or Stan James

Towton Novices Chase – 3.15 Wetherby (Grade 2)
Two wins from two in Novices Chases, the Ian Williams trained Wayward Prince looks the likely winner of this Grade 2, although there is one or two others, such as Hollo Ladies from the Ferdy Murphy stable and Cape Tribulation trained by Malcolm Jefferson who have plenty of class about them and who could upset the selection . However, Wayward Prince has looked a tremendous prospect over the bigger obstacles, winning both his races emphatically and proving his bstaying ability in the process. The stable think very highly of him and it was them that won the race last year with Weird Al.

Tip: Wayward Prince

Check out Paddy Power for the odds on all these races as they offer best odds guaranteed on every race together with money back specials.

The 2010 Cheltenham International meeting gets underway at Prestbury Park on Friday with a seven race card which is followed on Saturday by eight races including the re-arranged Grade 1 Tingle Creek Chase, featuring dual Champion Chaser, Master Minded. The Saturday card also includes the Grade 2 International Hurdle and the Vote AP Gold Cup, a race created to assist champion jockey’s Tony McCoy’s nomination to be crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Although there are no graded races on Friday there a couple of really interesting heats, particularly the CITIBANH Handicap Hurdle which will see the seasonal reappearance of 2010 Grand National winner, Don’t Push It. He will be taking on the current favourite for the Welsh National. in Synchronised as well as a host of good quality handicappers in a big field of runners.

Te Listed Majordomo Hospitality Handicap Chase over 3 miles and 1 furlong should see the Paul Nicholls trained Neptune Collonges manage to carry top weight to victory. Still being nurtured after a long lay-off, the one time Cheltenham Gold Cup third, who won the 2009 Hennessey Cognac Gold Cup at Punchestown should have enough class about him to take this, although there are a number of runners outside of the handicap who will be receiving bags of weight. These include Knowhere, trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies, who could continue the run of big handicap wins for his in form trainer.

There will be several of the ‘usual suspects’ competing for top prize in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase, including the great Garde Champetre with Nina Carberry on board. Second over course and distance last time out in November, the 11 year old will be giving lots of weight away, which he managed to do in this race 12 months ago when winning by ¾ length from Sizing Australia.
As already mentioned the Saturday card includes the Grade 1 tingle Creek Chase over 2 miles, which will see the dual Champion Chaser attempting to win the race for a second time. He is certain however to go off as the odds on favourite, but even with odds of around 10/11 he is probably worth backing as there appears to be nothing in the race to beat him.

In the Vote AP Gold Cup, also known as the December Gold Cup, likely favourites will be Dave’s Dream trained by Nicky Henderson and Little Josh from the Nigel Twiston-Davies stable. The latter of course comes to the race after winning the Paddy Power Gold Cup over course and distance in November and will be ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies, while lead stable jockey, Paddy Brennan will get the ride on the stable’s outsider, Pigeon Island. Dave’s Dream also won last time out, impressively landing the odds in the Paddy Power Handicap Chase over two miles also in November. Given that he is sure to improve on that run, Dave’s Dream looks to be on a handy mark for this and looks a good thing with current odds of around 11/2.

AP McCoy himself will be riding Finger On The Pulse for Tom Taafe but he will have to improve enormously and jump more efficiently if he is to improve on his last performance when well down the field behind Little Josh in the Paddy Power Gold Cup. That said he was a good winner of the coveted Galway Plate back in the summer, which may give him a small each way chance on Saturday.

The Grade 2 International Hurdle looks to be the race of the day with several young hurdlers lining up against each other. Narrow favourite currently is 2010 Supreme Novice, menorah, trained by Phillip Hobbs and who won on his seasonal reappearance in the Grade 3 Greatwood Hurdle over course and distance in November. Hobbs is confident that improvement will be made, hence the short price being offered. To win however, Menorah will have to get the better of the massively regarded, Cue card, trained by Colin Tizzard and who won the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival earlier this year. Since then he has taken to hurdles like a duck does to water, winning two from two in breathtaking style, including an 8 length success last time in a good quality Grade 2 at Cheltenham last month.

The other leading contender is the Paul Nicholls trained Silviniaco Conti, who has won all five of his starts, including two Grade 2 hurdle events at Chepstow, before taking the Ascot Hurdle on the 20th November. The vibes about this 4 year old are equally as hot as they are about Cue Card, which makes for a fascinating race, where at this stage it is difficult to pick a winner. It certainly would be a big surprise to see anything other than these three in the frame at the finish.

Cheltenham International meeting Tips
Saturday 1.55 – Master Minded @ 10/11 with Boylesports

All National Hunt fans will be casting their eyes over the final two days of the Cheltenham Open meeting this weekend in order to glean as much information as possible regarding the early season from of several Cheltenham Festival hopefuls.

The race that takes centre stage of course is the Grade 3, Paddy Power Gold Cup, which features one of the leading fancies for the Cheltenham Gold Cup in Long Run, trained by Nicky Henderson. The race which takes place on Saturday afternoon, has attracted a big field with 20 standing their ground with one day to go before the race.

Rain has been forecast during the course of the weekend but the going on the old course should be no worse than good to soft in places which should make for a speedy race.

Long Run, who will be partnered by amateur Sam Waley-Cohen, who is the son of the owner, arrived in Britain last year from France and made a huge impression on his early runs. His 13 length victory in his first race, the Grade 1 Feltham Novices Chase marked him up as a major force to be reckoned with, which he confirmed by taking the Grade 2, Kingmaker Novices Chase a few weeks later at Warwick in equally emphatic style.

However he certainly ‘fluffed his lines’ when he went to the 2010 Cheltenham Festival to take on the Grade 1 RSA Chase where he managed only third place behind winner, Weapon’s Amnesty. Waley-Cohen in fact was criticised by many for holding up the 5 year old in that race, but Henderson is perfectly happy for him to keep the ride this weekend.

Long Run is almost certain to go off favourite for the race, with the biggest threats to him coming from the David Pipe trained, Great Endeavour and Edward O’Grady’s Catch Me. That said, Pipe, has almost already conceded the race, believing that Long Run is a ‘nailed on certainty’ to take the honours.

Champion trainer, Paul Nicholls has three runners in the race with his best chance probably being Tchico Polos, winner of the Grade 2, Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter on November 2nd. Nicholls has confirmed that he has come out of that race in fine form, but believes that the Paddy Power Gold Cup might have come around a little too quick for him. He also runs top weight, Poquelin, who will have 5lb taken off by jockey, Ian Popham. His third runner, Gwanako, will need to improve if he is to trouble the main contenders.

Local trainer, Nigel Twiston-Davies also has three runners, which includes Little Josh who dead heated Weird Al last time out at Carlisle and who will have the trainer’s son on board. On Cheltenham Festival form he has quite a lot to find with Long Run, but might well be good enough to run into a place. Possibly the better option of the Twiston-Davies team is Pigeon Island who will improve from his last run when third behind Kilmurry in the Kleinwort Benson Novice Chase at Cheltenham last month. He has stable jockey, Paddy Brennan on board!

The other big race at the meeting is the Grade 3 Greatwood Handicap Hurdle, which is the feature race of the final day on Sunday. Amongst the favourites is the Phillip Hobbs trained, Menorah, winner of the 2010 Supreme Novice Hurdle over course and distance in March and who has very definite Champion Hurdle aspirations this season.

Favourite for the race however is the Paul Nicholls trained Sanctuaire, who has been impressing every at home at Ditcheat and who also won at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Another major ‘player’ in this race will be the Jonjo O’Neill trained, Get Me Out Of Here, who was just a head behind Menorah in the Supreme in March. He warmed up for this with a pretty lacklustre effort when finishing only 7th in a Listed race at Ascot a fortnight ago. On that form he will need to improve if he is going to win on Sunday.

Also on Sunday is the Sinbad Testimonial 2010/2011 Chase which should see 2009 Arkle Trophy Chase winner, Forpadydeplasterer return to winning ways after five second place finishes last season, which included four at Grade 1 level and one at Grade 2. His major threat is probably the Paul Nicholls entry Tataniano, who looked a very good chaser in the making when winning the Grade 1 Maghulls Novices Chase at Aintree at the end of last season.

There are almost too many horse racing highlights to mention this week which makes prioritising them very difficult to know which should be the main headline. However the Breeders Cup certainly seems to be dominating the headlines of the Racing Post, but in fairness, they are not forgetting the other major highlights, such as the flat jockey championship and the reappearance of Kauto Star in the JNwIne Champion Chase; both are receiving plenty of copy.

The Breeders Cup of course starts on Friday evening (GMT) at Churchill Downs and concludes with the Breeders Cup Classic on Saturday night. This final race features the outstanding unbeaten filly, Zenyatta who is looking to win her 20th race and become the second since Tiznow in 2000 and 2001to claim back to back wins in the race. The Breeders Cup Classic is thought by many to be the premier thoroughbred horse race in the world and it is only surpassed in prize money by the Dubai World Cup.

European hopes are mainly focussed on the Breeders Cup Turf, which will see Epsom Derby and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner, Workforce bids to break precedent and become the first ‘Arc’ winner ever to win at the Breeders Cup. To achieve that however he must take on and beat the big French fancy, Behkabad, who many thought was unlucky in the ‘Arc’, having been hampered on the run in.

Another big European hope is the Henry Cecil trained Midday, a winner of three Group One races already this season and who is favourite to win the Breeders Cup Ladies Classic. She is no stranger to the Breeders Cup either, as she won the Breeders Cup Filly & Mares at Santa Anita last year and who is, according to connections is in great form ahead of the race.

Goldikova, regarded by many as highly as Zenyatta, is a winner of 11 Group one races, including two wins in the Breeder’s Cup Mile for which she bids for once again this weekend. Her draw is not particularly favourable however, being on the wide outside, but such is her class that it will more than likely make winning the race that much harder, but no less inevitable. She will be taking on the Richard Hannon trained, Paco Boy, a seriously good miler but who has lost to Goldikova on all four occasions they have met in the past.

The race for the UK Flat Jockey Championship is as close as a couple of years ago when Jamie Spencer and Seb Sanders tied for the crown. This time around it is between Paul Hanagan and Richard Hughes, who come into the last weekend with just a couple of wins separating them. Hanagan is ahead at the moment and his case gets stronger due to the fact that he has more rides than Hughes on Saturday. Nonetheless the race could go down to wire and provide an outstanding sub plot to the big races.

Whilst events in the soon to expire flat racing season is holding sway over the National Hunt at the moment, racegoers will know that there is the small matter of the seasonal reappearance of Kauto Star on Saturday. The four time King George and dual Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, takes on a great field including the potentially outstanding Sizing Europe in the JNWine Champion Chase at Down Royal.

Kauto who won this race in 2008, was last seen falling four from home in the Gold Cup in March, a race won of course by Imperial Commander. Now ten years old, Kauto Star will use this race to rid himself hopefully of any Gold Cup cobwebs and to get a run in before a final preparation race before his record attempt of a fifth King George at Christmas.

As always there will be plenty of tipping opportunities for punters and many will take advantage of the excellent tipping service available in the Racing Post, where Pricewise (Tom Seger) is still the main man in the ‘bookie busting stakes’. Other highly recommended racing tips come from Gerald Delamare from the same source and Tom Lee from Channel 4 Racing, who has been in great form for Betting Directory this year. There is also the Scoop 6 to get stuck into this and every weekend which requires punters to pick the winners of six live TV races in the hope of scooping the win fund which regularly nears the £1 million mark.

It’s the first Classics of the 2010 Flat Season at Newmarket this year with the runnings of the 2000 and 1000 Guineas. The races see the best three year old Colts and Fillies from the UK, Ireland and France go head to head to set themselves on the trail to becoming the best three year old thoroughbreds of the season.

Both races are run over a distance of one mile and the 2,000 Guineas, which is contested between the Colts, is run at 3:05 on Saturday with the Fillies equivalent, the 1,000 Guineas run at 3:20pm on Sunday, with both races are live on Channel 4. Last year’s winner was the John Oxx trained, Sea the Stars, who was the first horse in twenty years to win both 2,000 Guineas and Epsom Derby, before going on to win a further four Group One races including the Arc de Triomph.

It will take an exceptional horse to match the achievements of last year’s 2000 Guineas winner in 2010 but many are predicting that the Aidan O’Brien trained, St Nicholas Abbey, could be good enough to replicate Sea the Stars and go on to win at Newmarket on Saturday before heading to Epsom in five weeks time to land the Derby, a double which is as short as 5/2 with Guineas sponsor, Stan James.

Free £25 bet for new customers when joining Stan James today

The unbeaten St Nicholas Abbey is currently best price 5/4 to win the 2000 Guineas but his price for the Derby double is not much bigger because it is thought that this son of Montjeu will imporve both for the run and step up in trip. Judge on his two year old form, none of these rivals should be able to come close to beating him, with second favourite, Elusive Pimpernel, needing to overturn a three length defeat in the Racing Post Trophy back in October.

Canford Cliffs, who was long time antepost favourite for this race before St Nicholas Abbey asserted himself on the market in the Autumn is available at 8/1, whilst another unbeaten Colt, the Michael Johnson trained Awzaan is a 10/1 chance. Of the bigger priced runners, the one time raced Inler (20/1) and French Raider, Makfi (33/1), make each-way appeal if you want to take on the favourite.

However, it is difficult to look beyond St Nicholas Abbey to win the race and we could well have another potential superstar of the Horse Racing world on our hands.

In the 1,000 Guineas on Sunday, the race looks a much more competitive affiar with bookmakers offering 7/2 the field. The French trained Special Duty is the favourite but must bounce back after a disappointing seasonal re-appearance last time out. Kieren Fallon, who last won this race in 2005, teams up with Luca Cumani to ride second favourite, Seta, who is currently an 11/2 chance along with Music Show.

However, it could pay to side with Godolphin and Frankie Dettori who join forces on Hibaayeb who won a Group One at Ascot on her final start as a two year and with the chances of good improvement over the winter, could be a good each way alternative to the leading protagonists at odds of 20/1 with Stan James.

The curtain falls on the 2010 National Hunt season at Sandown on Saturday afternoon with the running of the Bet365 Gold Cup, formerly known as the Whitbread Gold Cup and the Betfred Gold Cup in recent years. The Grade Three Chase, run over a distance of 3miles 5furlongs tradionally sees horses that failed to make an impression in the Grand National have a second attempt at landing a big prize over a shorter distance and this year’s race sees six of the 20 declared runners going under orders at Sandown after running in the Aintree showpiece just two weeks ago.

£200 Free Bet with race sponsor Bet365

The shortest price of those who ran in the National is The Package who was subject to good support at Aintree before unseating his rider half way round. The David Pipe runner is 10/1 to win the Bet365 Gold Cup and providing his Aintree exertions haven’t taken too much out of him, he should run his race. However, horses who did run in the Grand National don’t have a great record of winning this race with only one winner in the last ten years managing to do so.

The well backed favourite is Just Amazing, who represents champion trainer Paul Nicholls and judged on his winning re-appearance at Cheltenham last week looks to be well in at the weights off a mark of 139 and his current odds of 13/2 with Bet365 are only likely to get shorter. It is hard to see this seven year old not making his presence felt and looks the most likely winner.

Of the other runners, winner of this race in 2008, Monkerhostin, carries top weight and whilst age is against him, he does love Sandown and has proved he can carry big weights around the Surrey track and at 20/1 could be worth an each way flutter.
