Serena Williams Hot Favourite In US Open Betting

August 18, 2011

2011 US Open: 29th August – 11th September

The fourth and final Grand Slam of 2011 is soon upon us and the three-time US Open Champion Serena Williams has been installed as the bookies favourite for the US Open, with Boylesports pricing her at 6/4 to come away victorious from Flushing Meadows.

The younger Williams sister has had a difficult past year where she has had to battle back from injury and illness. The 29-year-old has come on heaps and bounds since her return to action in June when she was soundly beaten in the fourth round at Wimbledon by Marion Bartoli. Williams has taken the US hard court season by storm winning back-to-back titles – Standord Classic and the WTA Rogers Cup – thus sending a stark reminder to her rivals of what she is capable of.  Her serve is back on song as is her movement around the court, which makes her a genuine contender in New York. As a result of her improved form she has risen up to 31st ranking and it won’t soon be long till she is back in the top 10.

The Wimbledon Champion Petra Kvitova is next in the running with odds of 6/1. She is followed by Victoria Azarenka, who is priced at 8/1 and the 2006 Champion Maria Sharapova at 10/1. Sharapova’s odds represent good value as she is playing some great tennis at the moment, and as he recent run to the Wimbledon Final suggests, she is close to reaching her peak after a mixed couple of years. With Serena bursting back on the scene the focus, for once, has been off the World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki, which will come as a welcome relief to the 21-year-old. Throughout the last year the Dane has had to frequently answer questions on when she is going to win a Grand Slam, which she has so far failed to do. With all the build-up talk on other players, at 14/1 she looks like a good punt. She has one of the best all round games in women’s tennis and is also very consistent making her a real threat on all surfaces.

The French Open Champion and Australian Open Finalist, Li Na, is definitely one to watch. The 29-year-old had a fantastic 2011 so far and at 16/1 could well be worth a bet. Elsewhere Venus Williams can be found at 25/1 while Samantha Stosur has odds of 28/1. If you are after an outside bet the former women’s No.1 Ana Ivanovic is available at 80/1. The Serb recently joined up with the former LTA head coach Nigel Sears and providing her game is back on track she could spring an upset or two.

Tournament Outright Odds

  • 6/1 – Petra Kvitova
  • 8/1 – Victoria Azarenka
  • 10/1 – Maria Sharapova

Spain The Team To Beat According To Latest Davis Cup Outright Betting

July 19, 2011

We are now down to the last four of the 2011 Davis Cup Tennis and there is no surprise to see Spain at the head of the market as they aim to win the team competition for the fifth time in their history. Spain have been the dominant force since winning for the first time in 2000 and it is hard to argue with their status as favourites with Boylesports, the Irish Bookmaker rate the Spanish  as a 5/4 shot to win the tournament which reflects the strength of their team at the moment. Such is the strength of the Spanish squad at the moment that they manged to comfortably dispatch the USA in the Quarter-Finals without needing to select their best player Rafa Nadal for the tie in Texas.

The closest opposition to the Spanish and there likely final opponents are expected to be defending Champions Serbia who with Novak Djokovic leading them will be expected to beat Argentina in their Semi-Final match up. Djokovic is without doubt the best player in the world at the moment and his remarkable run of form in 2011 was sparked by his brilliant performance in the Davis Cup Final last season as the Serbs defeated France in a tight final. Punters wanting to back Djokovic and the Serbs to defend their title can get a price of 6/4 with Boyleports, they look the clear favourites in the last four against Argentina which is likely to set up a home tie against the Spanish in the final.

The Spanish are likely to prove too strong for France in the Semi-Finals with the tie set to take place on clay later in the year, Nadal is likely to join the likes of David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco in what is looking like the strongest team left in the tournament. It is worth considering though that should as expected Spain and Serbia reach the Final, the matches will be played in Serbia which is a massive advantage for Novak Djokovic and his squad which makes the Serbs a genuine threat. A Serbia v Spain final is a mouth watering prospect with Nadal and Djokovic set to meet in what could be a titanic tussle at the end of the year, Djovkovic has been on top of Nadal in general over the last year and if that trend continues we could be set to see Serbia retain their title.

Outright Davis Cup 2011 Win Odds with Boylesports

  • 5/4 – Spain
  • 6/4 – Serbia
  • 7/1 – Argentina
  • 7/1 – France

Novak Djokovic Early Favourite For US Open

July 4, 2011

Following his superb victory over Rafael Nadal in the Wimbledon final on Sunday, Novak Djokovic has been installed as the early favourite for the US Open in August, with odds of 2/1 with the bookmakers Victor Chandler. Simply put, Djokovic has had a stunning 2011. Not only has he won two Grand Slams – Australian Open and Wimbledon – but the Serb has amassed a total of four ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles, and today, he has become the World No.1. Furthermore, he has only been defeated once in 2011 and has beaten Nadal, who is widely considered to be one of the best tennis players ever, a remarkable five times this year. Outstanding.

These achievements were unthinkable a year ago when Djokovic was in a similar position to the one Andy Murray is now – his talent was unquestionable but his execution and self-belief was not. However, a change in mentality has done wonders for the 24-year-old, propelling him to the pinnacle of the sport, and on current form it is going to take a monumental effort to knock him off.

Despite Djokovic’s dominance this year, the US Open is by no means guaranteed. Firstly, he has never won it, and secondly, Nadal and Roger Federer will be more determined than ever to get back to winning ways. As the defending champion and World No.2, Nadal will be his closest challenger for the trophy. After licking his Wimbledon wounds the Spaniard will be itching to get back on the court and claim his second Grand Slam of the year. It is not often that he is overshadowed, and he can be found with odds of 5/2 to win the US Open and get the spotlight firmly back on him.

With odds of 4/1 Federer looks good value. His best days may be behind him but he is still a force in the men’s game, and let’s not forget that he is a five-time winner at Flushing Meadows. If Federer fails to win the last remaining Grand Slam of 2011 then it will be the first time in a mammoth nine years that he has failed to win one of the major tournaments in a calendar year, which we are sure will act as a major motivator come the end of August.

Although his semi-final defeat last week to his nemesis Nadal will hurt, Andy Murray can take confidence from his excellent performances in Grand Slam’s this year. The Scot has finished as runner-up to Djokovic in the Australian Open, and has reached the last four at both the French Open and Wimbledon, falling victim to Nadal on both ocassions. He now needs to draw inspiration from what Djokovic has achieved so far this year, in order to spur him on to win his first Grand Slam. Murray is available at 15/2 to win the US Open, although his time is more likely to come next year.

After his exploits at Wimbledon, the young Australian sensation Bernard Tomic is an outside bet at 100/1. The 18-year-old announced himself on the world stage at The All England Club last week with big wins over Robin Soderling and Xavier Malisse, before taking Djokovic to four sets in the last eight. Similarly, Mardy Fish can be found with long odds of 100/1. The American can reflect on a successful Wimbledon, after he tested Nadal during their quarter-final match, which will give him confidence going into the US Open.

2011 US Open Outright Winner Odds

  • 2/1 – Novak Djokovic
  • 5/2 – Rafael Nadal
  • 4/1 – Roger Federer
  • 15/2 – Andy Murray
  • 15/2 – Juan Martin Del Potro
  • 33/1 – Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
  • 40/1 – Robin Soderling
  • 50/1 – Andy Roddick
  • 50/1 – Tomas Berdych
  • 66/1 – Milos Raonic
  • 80/1 – David Nalbandian
  • 80/1 – Marin Cilic
  • 100/1 – Mardy Fish
  • 100/1 – Bernard Tomic

Murray has been seeded fourth for Wimbledon, and after his brilliant win at Queen’s Club last Sunday the expectation for him to win this year’s Wimbledon will shortly be reaching fever pitch. The Scot has an impressive record in 2011 Grand Slams having finished second to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open and reaching the semi-finals at the French Open just under two weeks ago. Murray has reached the semi-finals in his previous two appearances at Wimbledon but, if he is going to reach the final for the first time he will most likely have to get past the World No.1 and defending champion Rafa Nadal, with either the six-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer or the in-form Novak Djokovic awaiting him in the final.

It is common knowledge that Caroline Wozniacki has yet to win a Grand Slam. After a good start to 2011 – she has won five titles – the Women’s World No.1 will be feeling confident she can break this duck and lift her first Grand Slam trophy in a couple of weeks time. However, she doesn’t have the best of records at the All England Lawn Tennis Club – she is yet to progress past the fourth round – and with the Williams sisters back in the draw and Maria Sharapova back on song, the Dane’s chances look slim.

The draw for this year’s Wimbledon will take place on Friday 17th June.

Rafa Nadal The Slight Favourite In Tight Wimbledon Betting

June 13, 2011

We are now getting ready to take in the greatest Tennis tournament in the World with a fortnight of action coming up from the All England Club at Wimbledon and the betting is looking extremely tight. At the moment Men’s tennis is in something of a purple patch with Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray all in great form and according to the latest betting in with a chance of lifting the trophy. Nadal looked to be back to his very best at Roland Garros as he won another French Open recently and the defending Wimbledon Champion is the slight favourite with Paddy Power to win on the grass again at SW19.

Over the past two or three years Nadal has proven to be the best player in the world and that is reflected in his Wimbledon price of 2/1 with Paddy Power, he did look a little tired though during the Queens tournament recently and one or two may be looking to take him on. Nadal beat Roger Federer in the final at the French Open and the Swiss arrives in London looking somewhere near his very best, if he can carry that form into Wimbledon then there is no reason why Federer cannot win a remarkable seventh Crown at the All England Club. Paddy Power have recognised this and they have Federer as short as 9/4 to claim a 17th Grand Slam triumph on his favourite surface.

Outside of the top two punters will also want to look at Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic who both have the talent needed to win Wimbledon, Djokovic in particular has been in great form in 2011 and will be hoping to add to his Australian Open success back in January. The Serb only lost for the first time in 2011 in the French Open Semi-Finals and he goes into Wimbledon as a nice looking 10/3 shot with Paddy Power.com, he does not have a great record on the grass but such is his form at the moment he cannot be ruled out. Potentially we are getting ready for a classic Wimbledon this year with at least four genuine potential winners of the tournament and the betting is looking like one of the best markets of the year.

Latest Wimbledon 2011 Men’s Odds with Paddy Power

French Open Betting Specials – Nadal Favourite To Win

May 20, 2011

The 2011 French Open catapults into life on Sunday 22nd May as the best players in the world compete for the chance to be crowned the King of Clay. The bookmakers Coral have some fantastic specials to wet your appetite ahead of the second Grand Slam of the year.

After a sensation run of form Novak Djokovic has had his odds slashed to just 6/5, yet he still finds himself behind the 11/10 heavy favourite Rafael Nadal, a five-time winner at Roland Garros. With both men on fine form, and with Andy Murray showing huge signs of progress on the surface and Roger Federer always a threat, you can place a bet with Coral that the top 4 men’s seeds will all progress through to the semi-finals at a tempting 5/1.

Nadal and Djokovic have clashed in the final of the two recent ATP Masters Series tour events (Madrid and Rome) in the build up to the French Open, with Djokovic surprisingly coming out on top in both encounters. It would come as no surprise if both men were to meet again in the final at Roland Garros, but the real question is whether either tennis superstar can win the Grand Slam without dropping a set. Nadal is available at 6/1 to achieve this feat whilst Djokovic is priced at 7/1.

At 14/1 to win the tournament Andy Murray well may be worth a punt. The Scot has recently put his miserable run of form since the Australian Open behind him by reaching the semi-finals in both Monte Carlo and Rome. The determined 24-year-old is a confident mood ahead of the French Open and has been handed a relatively easy draw that will more than boost his chances of success. Despite his slight dip in form Roger Federer too is most certainly worth a gamble at 14/1.

Elsewhere David Ferrer, who was runner-up to Rafael Nadal in both Monte Carlo and Barcelona is good value at 33/1, whilst Juan Martin Del Potro is 25/1 and Robin Söderling 40/1.

French Open Men’s Outright Odds

  • Rafael Nadal – 11/10

Djokovic 12/1 to Win Every Grand Slam

May 13, 2011

Paddy Power are offering intriguing odds of 12/1 for Novak Djokovic to win all four Grand Slams in 2011. The Serbian superstar has been in sensational form so far this year, and with the Australian Open already under his belt, who says he can’t complete the clean sweep.

At the time of writing the 23-year-old remains undefeated in 2011. His incredible winning streak dates back to the previous year, in which he ended on a high having lead Serbia to their first ever Davis Cup title after beating France 3-2 in a thrilling final. Djokovic has since won the Australian Open, three ATP Masters titles in Indian Wells, Miami and Madrid, as well as tournaments in Dubai and Belgrade. Djokovic is currently looking good in the Rome Masters – an event he won three years ago – and is due to face Robin Soderling in the quarter-finals. His 6-4 6-1 demolition of Stanislas Wawrinka in the previous round takes his 2011 winning tally to 34, only eight wins away from equalling John McEnroe’s 42-0 start in 1984.

Djokovic seems to have overcome a major mental barrier concerning Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer and now goes into every match against the two tennis greats with buckets of confidence, whereas before he perhaps lacked the belief that he was really going to win. The next Grand Slam on the tennis calender is the French Open, which begins on 22nd May, and Paddy Power have Djokovic at 12/5 to win.

Nadal Favourite In Rome Despite Madrid Defeat

May 9, 2011

The clay maestro Rafael Nadal is the favourite to win the ATP Tour Rome Masters despite losing to Novak Djokovic in the Madrid Open final on Sunday in straight sets. The Serbian’s impressive 7-5 6-4 win took his 2011 undefeated streak to 32 matches whilst simultaneously ending Nadal’s record of 37 consecutive wins on clay. At 2/1 with Stan James you won’t get much better odds for Djokovic to record his fourth ATP Masters Series win of the year.

Rafa’s confidence would have taken some battering following his defeat to Djokovic, and the Spaniard faces a tough draw in Rome with the likes of Roger Federer, David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych and Thomaz Bellucci in his side of the draw. He faces a possible semi-final clash with Federer, whom he beat in three sets last week. Nadal also has a 10-1 record against Federer on clay and with the Swiss struggling for form on the surface this year you would count it as a big upset for him to overcome Nadal and reach the final. Federer can nonetheless never be ruled out, and Stan James have priced him at 11/1 to win his first Masters tournament of the year.

After disappointing in Madrid, Andy Murray will be determined to bounce back and put in an impressive performance in Rome ahead of the French Open later this month. You can back the Scot with Stan James at 25/1. Elsewhere David Ferrer looks good value at 18/1, whilst Thomas Berdych, who took a set of Djokovic in the semi-finals last week, is priced at 50/1. Alternatively Gael Monfils, who bizarrely had to retire last week after an allergic reaction to cheese, has long odds of 80/1.

Rome Masters Odds

  • 1/2 – Rafael Nadal
  • 2/1 – Novak Djokovic
  • 11/1 – Roger Federer
  • 18/1 – David Ferrer
  • 25/1 – Andy Murray
  • 28/1 – Robin Soderling
  • 40/1 – Nikolay Davydenko
  • 50/1 – Thomas Belluci
  • 50/1 – Thomas Berdych

Gain, Set and Match – Madrid Masters Betting Special

May 3, 2011

The Madrid Open kicks off today in Spain as the top players on the men’s tour look to impress ahead of the French Open on May 17th. The bookies Victor Chandler are offering punters a fantastic match bet deal whereby if your chosen player is beaten in a final set tie-break they will refund your losing stake as a FREE BET!

Rafael Nadal is understandably the clear favourite to win the third Masters of 2011. The Spaniard has been in sublime form in recent months, winning in both Monte Carlo and Barcelona. The clay court specialist is reaching his peak just in time for the French Open and it is difficult to look past him this week in Madrid. Another player in fine form is Nadal’s Spanish counterpart David Ferrer, who finished as the runner-up to the World No.1 in both Monte Carlo and Barcelona. Ferrer will be hoping to make it a case of third time lucky in Madrid and at 20/1 is definitely worth a punt.

Novak Djokovic, who has spent the last few weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury, will be looking to come back where he left off as the Serbian remains undefeated this year. The 2011 Australian Open Champion is the second favourite at 7/2 and looks a good bet to challenge Nadal. At 10/1 Roger Federer is always worth a bet, however it is difficult to see him getting the better of Nadal or Djokovic on his least favourite surface. The third seed was disappointing in Monte Carlo where he lost to Jurgen Melzer in the quarterfinals. Andy Murray, who lost a thrilling semi-final to Nadal in Monaco, missed the event in Barcelona due to an elbow injury but showed glimpses of his best form in Moncao and is worth backing at 20/1, although he does face a potential showdown with Djokovic in the semi-finals and we all know what happened in Australia…

Other players to keep an eye out for include Juan Martin Del Potro at 20/1, Thomas Berdych at 40/1, and don’t be fooled by Fernando Verdasco on long odds of 50/1. The Spaniard is a cracking player who can challenge anyone on his day.

Madrid Masters Winner Odds

  • 2/5 – Rafael Nadal
  • 7/2 – Novak Djokovic
  • 10/1 – Roger Federer
  • 20/1 – David Ferrer
  • 20/1 – Juan Martin Del Potro
  • 20/1 – Andy Murray
  • 40/1 – Thomas Berdych
  • 50/1 – Robin Soderling
  • 50/1 – Fernando Verdasco
  • 66/1 – Nikolay Davydenko

Monte Carlo Masters: Nadal the favourite in Djokovic’s absence

April 11, 2011

The Monte Carlo Masters marks the official start of the clay court season and with the in-form Novak Djokovic absent through injury it is difficult to look beyond the World No.1 Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard, who has a record of 34-1 at this event, is the clear favourite with Stan James at 1/4. Nadal breezed to victory here last year without dropping a single set and will be determined to kick-start his season with a commanding performance on his preferred surface.

Both Djokovic and Robin Soderling will miss the third masters of the year due to knee injuries. Djokovic has been the star performer on the men’s tour this year and has already collected a stunning five titles; Hopman Cup, Australian Open, Dubai Open, Indian Wells Open and the Sony Ericsson Open, and in the process he has taken his unbeaten streak to an incredible 26 matches. Soderling has reached the final of the French Open for the past two years and will be dissapointed to miss this Masters event.

The draw has paired Nadal with the likes of Tomas Berdych, Andy Murray and Richard Monfils. Murray is currently going through a dismal run, failing to win a single set since the semi-finals of the Australian Open back in January. However, the Scot will be  is currently working with the Adidas coaches Darren Cahill and Sven Groeneveld until he finds a permanent coach and this may just give him a new lease of life. Murray is available with Stan James at 33/1.

On the other side of the draw is Roger Federer, who similarly to Nadal has had a subdued start to 2011, although this is predominantly due to the excellence of Djokovic. Although clay is Federer’s least favourite surface he is always a threat and is worth a punt at 11/2. The clay court specialist and on-form David Ferrer is available at a very tempting 16/1 whilst Nicolas Almagro looks good at 22/1 and last year’s runners-up Fernando Verdasco is at odds of 40/1.

Monte Carlo Masters Odds with Stan James

  • 1/4 – Rafael Nadal
  • 11/2 – Roger Federer
  • 16/1 – David Ferrer
  • 22/1 – Nicolas Almajro
  • 33/1 – Andy Murray
  • 40/1 – Fernando Verdasco
  • 50/1 – Tomas Berdych
  • 50/1 – Gael Monfils50/1 – Marin Cilic
  • 50/1 – Viktor Troicki
