The UK Snooker Championship is just around the corner as the best players in the world get ready for the second biggest tournament in the game and at this stage the betting is looking as competitive as ever. Snooker has never been more open than it is at the moment but a familiar face can be found at the head of the market, Boylepsorts currently rank the four times Champion as the 6/1 favourite to lift the title in York.

There are a number of players fighting for favouritism behind The Rocket and they include the likes of Mark Selby, John Higgins, Mark Williams and Neil Robertson who are all more than capable of winning the tournament if they bring their A game. Mark Williams is of particular interest has he continues to play towards his best having shot back up the rankings over the past couple of years. Williams is a former World Number one as well as a double World Champion and punters can back the Welshman to win the UK Championships this year at a nice price of 15/2 with Boylesports to take his first UK Championship.

The hottest property in Snooker at the moment is young Judd Trump who continues to set the tour alight with a number of impressive performances and will be searching for his second ranking title in York after collecting the China Open last season. The highlight of Trump’s career so far saw him make it to the World Championship final last season and many expect him to be at the top of the game for many years to come, the man from Bristol can be backed at a good looking 14/1 with Boylesports.com to take the win. It has to be said that this is a difficult time for Snooker punters with so many players in with a chance but at the same time their is plenty of value on offer in a competitive market.

This weekend sees the World Snooker Championships get underway at The Crucible and according to the betting it is looking one of the most open tournaments in years with a number of players heading to the event full of chances. All eyes will be on John Higgins as he returns to the World Championship for the first time since returning from his ban from the sport, and the Scot is the favourite to win for the fourth time with his odds currently at 11/2 with Paddy Power. He is the world no 1 and on his best form is the one to beat but Snooker is hugely competitive this season making Higgins an uneasy favourite at this stage.

The winner last year was Neil Robertson from Australia but he has not been at his best so far this season, he may have struggled slightly to cope with the tag of World Champion but at his best he will be a real threat once again. Punters wanting to back Robertson can get an attractive looking 9/1 with Paddy Power and that could prove an attractive bet in a couple of weeks time. As always Ronnie O’Sullivan will be a man to watch at Sheffield but his form has been below par this season and despite his odds of just 6/1 he is hard to back with any real certainty at the moment having played very little Snooker in recent months.

The Chinese invasion in Snooker is hard to ignore at the moment and Ding Juhui is at the forefront of that at the moment, he has been decent form this season and could be ready to make the ultimate breakthrough at the Crucible this season. Ding is a brilliant break builder at his best and he now appears to have the maturity needed to win when the pressure is on, with that in mind his odds of 8/1 with Paddy Power to win the title could prove to be excellent value for punters.

The qualifiers take place from 24th – 27th February ahead of the full tournament which begins on March 28th. The event is hosted at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium in Beijing, China. It is the last ranking event before the World Championship and was won in 2010 by Welshman Mark Williams who beat Ding Junhui 10-6. The only year it was won by a Chinese player was in 2005 when Ding Junhui beat Stephen Hendry 9-5.

The bookmakers Stan James are one of the only bookmakers (if that the only major bookie that is doing so) that are currently offering odds on the China Open Qualifiers. A spokesperson for the bookmakers said that as these qualifiers are featuring some of the future stars of snooker that punters should be given the opportunity to bet on these rising stars before they become household names.

Now that the Cheltenham Festival is over the bookmakers can go back to concentrating on the other major sports and to kick start punters into having another bet the bookies Boylesports are running a refund offer on all losing bets on the World Championship if Mark Selby wins the tournament. Last year Selby managed to get to the quarter finals being beaten by the eventual winner John Higgins.

The World Championship for 2010 takes place between April 17th and 3rd May 2010 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield and it will be sponsored by bookmakers Betfred. The tournament is one of the most lucrative in the world of snooker with first prize coming away with £250,000 and runner up an impressive £125,000.

Jimmy White is looking to make a triumphant return to snooker at the 2010 Masters which starts at Wembley Arena on Sunday 10th January and runs until the 17th. He recently came back into the public limelight by appearing (and coming in 3rd place) on the ITV1 show I’m A Celebrity.

White is currently ranked a lowly 56th in the world, a far cry from his halcyon days when he was one of the most famous snooker players in the world. White has been placed at odds of 200/1 to win the competition and must face fellow Englishmen Mark King in the first round.

Its not all about the English and bookmakers Boylesports are running one of their famous cash back offers on the 2010 Masters and will refund all losing single bet placed on the tournament if China’s most successful player Ding Junhui goes on to win the tournament.
