World Championships, Daegu (South Korea), 27th August – 4th September 2011
Great Britain head into the 13th World Championships in Daegu (South Korea) with a real chance of grabbing four gold medals, which would surpass their highest total of three golds won in 1993. The Golden Girl of British athletics, heptathlete Jessica Ennis, has been in sensational form since she burst onto the scene at the 2009 World Championships and is definitely the one to beat this year. A cracking performance in Daegu could even take her past Denise Lewis’s British record. The 10,000m runner Mo Farah has had a stunning 2011, setting both British and European records, and looks in great shape heading into South Korea. Similarly Dai Greene has showed some great form so far this year and is a good bet to win the 400m hurdles. Triple jumper Phillips Idowu harbours strong hopes defending his World Championship but will have to beat a tough field to win gold. Other athletes with faint hopes of gold include Lisa Dobriskey (1500m), Jenny Meadows (800m), and the long jumpers Greg Rutherford and Chris Tomlinson.
For his impeccably high standards Usain Bolt had a fairly average 2010 but after winning all of his races so far in 2011 he looks to be back in form. Following the withdrawal of his closest rivals, Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay, Bolt is now the overwhelming 1/6 favourite to win the 100m. If for some reason he doesn’t perform on the day then Yohan Blake at 6/1 or Richard Thompson at 18/1 will be in hot pursuit. From an Great British perspective Dwain Chambers has long odds of 125/1 to pull off an unlikely win while Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and Marlon Devonish are priced as massive outsiders at 250/1.
The South African 400m runner Oscar Pistorius aka ‘Blade Runner’ will become the first ever amputee to race at the highest level when he steps onto the track at the World Championships this weekend. The 24-year-old is available at 3/1 to reach the 400m Final, 20/1 to win a medal and 100/1 to win gold.

Chicago has best odds to host the 2016 Olympics
October 2, 2009
The hosts of the 2016 Olympics will be decided today at 18.00 (BST), there are four cities spread across four continents that are waiting to hear if they have been chosen to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. Currently Chicago is looking the favourite to be chosen (but lets not forget Paris were looking good for 2012), closely followed by Rio, but as Brazil has been chosen for the 2014 World Cup this might go against them.
Whatever city is decided to host the event they will have to brace themselves for the amazing costs that are associated with being the host city, London which was chosen to host the 2010 Olympics has already seen costs rocket, the budget was originally slated for around £5 billion and has almost doubled to £9.3 billion.
