Irish Trained Winner Just 5/2 In Special Grand National Betting
January 12, 2012
The Irish have a great record in the Grand National and with the 2012 race now on the horizon there are a number of top contenders expected to head across the sea to take their chance at Aintree for the big race. The last Irish trained winner of the National was Silver Birch back in 2007 who was trained by Gordon Elliott and punters may want to have a closer look at the 5/2 on offer from Betfred about there being another winner added to that list in 2012.
There are of course a number of potential Irish trained National winners currently featuring in the Aintree betting who may be worth considering, the trainers to keep an eye on include Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott who will both be looking to add to previous success in the race. Elliott could be running the likes of Chicago Grey and Beautiful Sound who both look to have decent chances while Mullins will be looking to The Midnight Club who was well backed last year only to finish sixth and could improve this time around.
Another nice special for punters to have a close look at is for Paul Nicholls to finally train the winner of the National, the Master Of Ditcheat can be backed at 10/1 with Betfred to claim his first win in the race in 2012. Nicholls has won just about every big race in the sport apart from the National and he will be hoping the likes of Niche Market and The Minack among others maybe able to help him put an end to that drought this season. The National is always the biggest race of the season and that is particularly the case in 2012 with one of the most competitive betting markets in years starting to hot up as we approach the big race.

Paddy Power Offering Five Places Each-Way and NRNB For Grand National
April 4, 2011
We are now on the final countdown towards the Grand National at Aintree this weekend and the betting markets are really starting to hot up with the 40 entries now starting to be finalised. Many of the bookmakers have been biding their time on the National specials but today has seen Paddy Power go Non-Runner, No Bet for the race as well as offering punters five places each-way for the Aintree marathon. These are two of the most important specials that punters have been waiting for before having a bet on a race that can often prove a lottery, meaning each-way punters will now be ready to wade in with five places on offer to them.
The betting for the Grand National this year is looking as strong as ever with any number of horses boasting genuine claims based on their form and the latest betting making these special bets all the more important. At this stage it is The Midnight Club who is the favourite and he is currently heading the market at a price of 8/1 for Willie Mullins after he won the Bobbyjo Chase recently at Fairyhouse in some style. Another who has been the subject of plenty of money in recent days is Backstage who will be bidding to give trainer Gordon Elliott his second win in the race, he has won two point-to-point races this season and is now as short as 11/1 with Paddy Power to claim the win.
Any punters wanting to have an each-way bet in the Grand National this season must look for a firm like Paddy Power who are paying out five places each-way and a number horses fit into the frame at a nice price. One that could run into a place at a nice price is State of Play who ran 3rd last year and has been kept off the track ever since in a deliberate plan to get him ready for another crack at the worlds biggest steeple chase. The Evan Williams horse looks to be nicely handicapped and it would be no surprise to see him run another cracker making his price of 20/1 with Paddy Power an attractive option.

Paul Nicholls is 9/2 To Train His First Aintree Grand National Winner
March 29, 2011
Paul Nicholls has done just about everything in the world of Horse Racing training apart from one thing, and that is that he is still yet to train a winner of the Aintree Grand National. Nicholls has dominated the world of National Hunt over the past few years but it has been the Cheltenham Festival where most of his success has come, that could be about to change though with Nicholls set to be mob-handed at Antree this season with two genuine contenders according to the Grand National Betting.
Bookmakers Bet365 believe that Nicholls could be about to end that drought as they are offering skinny looking odds of 9/2 about him training the winner, he is set to have four runners in the race with What A Friend and Niche Market the two main contenders from Ditcheat. What A Friend ran a blinder last time out when 4th in the Gold Cup and based on that performance he is well in at the weights and looks to be the class of the field at this stage, the horse is part-owned by Sir Alex Ferguson and at this stage can be backed at 11/1 to win the Grand National.
Niche Market likewise looks a major contender for Paul Nicholls in the National this year and he has the profile to run a massive race, he is a former Irish Grand National and punters can back him at 14/1 with Bet365 to win the race on his second attempt. Nicholls will be expecting those two to form the strength of his team while The Tother One and Ornais are more likely to have each-way claims for the Champion Trainer meaning that punters wanting to back Nicholls will be hoping either What A Friend or Niche Market can be successful.

Overturn the bookmakers on a fantastic weekend of Racing
February 18, 2011
Yet another cracking weekend of National Hunt racing awaits, allowing punters and racing fans alike to get their notebooks out looking to see those who will go on to run at the forthcoming Cheltenham Festival.
This weekend however is also a big weekend for Grand National followers, with the official Grand National Trial being run at Haydock on Saturday, but there is also the Weatherby Bloodstock Insurance Chase and the Betfair Chase both at Ascot which has entries for both Cheltenham and Aintree.
Over in Ireland it is Red Mills day at Gowran Park which has a superb card, including the Grade 2 Red Mills Trial Hurdle which will see the return to the racecourse of the very exciting Dunguib.
Potted previews of each of the top races this weekend are made below which is followed by the usual ‘Yankee’.
1.50 Ascot – Reynoldstown Novice Chase 3m (Grade 2)
An excellent trial for the RSA Chase at Cheltenham which brings together several very talented novices, two of which are from the Paul Nicholls stable and both could run well. The first of those however, Aiteen Thirtythree a dual winner this season, including a Grade 2 at Newbury is the pick from stablemate The Minack. Dangers lie in Master Of The Hall and the Tim Vaughan trained, Beshabar.
Tip: Aiteen Thirtythree
2.25 Ascot – Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Chase 3m (Grade 3)
A difficult race to find the winner, but Piraya from the David Pipe yard looks to be on a good mark following some consistent performances. The Pipe stable has a very good record in Handicaps at Ascot and this 8 year old should be capable of improving it.
Tip: Piraya.
2.50 Gowran Park – Red Mills Trial Hurdle 2m (Grade 2)
If all those declared in the latest declarations then this race could be a classic with several big name runners, headed by Dunguib who will be making his seasonal reappearance. Also a likely runner is Fiveforthree who successfully returned to the racecourse earlier this week following a 22 month absence to easily win the Today Hurdle at Punchestown. Voler La Vedette is another high profile entry, this mare has been busy all season but never looked more impressive than she did last week when winning the Grade 2 Boyne Hurdle.
Tip: Fiveforthree
3.00 Ascot – Betfair Ascot Chase 2m5f (Grade 2)
On paper this is a straight race between Pride Of Dulcote and Riverside Theatre, however the Tom George trained Tartak could spring a surprise. Riverside Theatre is certainly the yardstick, his second place in the Grade One King George Chase last month is the best form in the race. A repeat of that performance he wins.
Tip: Riverside Theatre
3.20 Haydock – Grand National Trial 3m 4f (Grade 3)
A cracking race in prospect and one in which a case could be made for at least 80% of the runners. Alan King’s West End Rocker will likely go off favourite, but the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained, Major Malarkey looks to be well in with the weights and has been in good form this season.
Tip: Major Malarkey
3.45 Wincanton –Kingwell Hurdle 2m (Grade 2)
Many of the original entries for this Grade Two will have ran elsewhere before this race starts meaning that the field will almost certainly be a reduced one. However it should include the exciting novice Silviniaco Conti from the Paul Nicholls yard, who will be taking on Overturn from the Donald McCain yard with the highly regarded Mille Chief, trained by Alan King probably going off as favourite.
Tip: Overturn
Saturday’s Win Yankee:
Aiteen Thirtythree
Piraya
Major Malarkey
