Sergio Garcia 5/1 For Major Success In 2012 After Return To Form

October 31, 2011

Sergio Garcia has long been considered the best player in the world yet to win a Major Championship in golf, he has spent the past ten years going close to glory on a number of occasions and will be hoping 2012 will be the year that drought ends. Garcia had been in the golfing wilderness for the past couple of years, he seemed to have fallen out of love with the game as he dropped down the rankings and was showing no signs of his ability which on his best day is second none. After a break from the game though Garcia has returned fresh and ready to return to the summit of the game, that has been highlighted with two successive wins on the European Tour which has seen him rise back to the top 20 in the world rankings.

Garcia is back playing golf with a smile on his face and that will make him a dangerous threat when the players turn up at Augusta for the first Major of the 2012 season, Bet365 now rate him as short as 5/1 to win any of the four Majors in 2012. That price would have been unthinkable just a couple of months ago but following his return to form he will now arrive at each of the four Majors full of confidence and with the game to win any tournament. It is also worth noting that with the Ryder Cup on the horizon Garcia will be desperate to return to the European team in 2012 which will surely given extra motivation fin all of the big tournaments during 2012.

Punters wanting to back Garcia to win a Major Championship in 2012 may want to take a close look at the US Masters which will as always be the first one on the calendar in April, Garcia can be backed at 25/1 with Bet365.com to claim his first Major win at Augusta and that could prove a nice piece of value. World Golf is as strong as it ever has been at the moment and the return to form of Sergio Garcia is a welcome one for punters he is one of the most popular players on tour and many will be hoping he finally breaks his Major duck in 2012.

Rory McIlroy A Short Price To Win Another Golf Major in 2012

October 20, 2011

Rory McIlroy has made the breakthrough in 2011 to golf stardom and the bookmakers are predicting there will be more glory for the man from Northern Ireland in 2012. McIlroy simply blew the field away in Washington back in June to win his first Major at the US Open and with the season now drawing to a close all eyes are on the four Majors on the calendar in 2012. The Masters at Augusta will be the players first chance as always to pick up a Major and McIlroy is sure to be one of the favourites, he was he leader there after three rounds this season before falling away on the Sunday but it is clearly a course that suits his game.

McIlroy is capable of winning any tournament and if he arrives at one of the majors on top form he will be hard to beat in 2012, that fact is reflected in current price of just 15/8 with Skybet to win any Major Championship next year. The style of McIlroy’s win in Washington was reminiscent of Tiger Woods at his best and the former World Number one will also be hoping he can return to that form in 2012 as he goes looking to end his Major drought. Woods has dropped out of the top 50 in the world rankings and shown very little form in 2011 but Skybet still believe he can pick up a Major next season, Woods is as short as 5/2 to win a 15th Major which looks a little skinny at this stage.

2012 could be the year that we see the likes of Luke Donald and Lee Westwood claim their first major after years of trying to break their duck, they are the current top two players in the world rankings and the two men from England will be desperate to put a Major on their impressive CV’s. Westwood in particular has had numerous chances to win one of the big four but so far has been unable to get over the line while Donald is in the form of his life and has to be targeting a big win next year before playing the Ryder Cup next September. Donald and Westwood are both available at 3/1 with Skybet to claim any of the four Majors in 2012, we feel that given his current form Luke Donald looks like the player offering the best value of the two at the moment.

PGA Grand Slam of Golf: Tuesday 18th – Wednesday 19th October

The annual Grand Slam of Golf takes part in Bermuda between the four major champions of 2011. US Masters winner Charl Schwartzel, runnerway US Open Champion Rory McIlroy, British Open victor Darren Clarke and PGA Champion Keegan Bradley are set to go head-to-head in what promises to be an intriguing two-day tournament. All four players are first-time major winners, which adds extra spice to proceedings. Previous winners of the tournament include Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Jim Furyk but the question is who will be joining that elite list come Wednesday?

The tournament is being held at Port Royal Golf Course and William Hill have installed Rory McIlroy as the 11/8 favourite. October 6, 2011

Tiger Wood returns to action this week in the Fry.com Open, and is being well backed as the 5/1 favourite to win the tournament at CordeValle. Woods has been on the sidelines since aggravating his knee and Achilles injuries on his previous return at The Players Championship back in May. He is now fully recovered and ready to roll alongside new caddie Joe LaCava.

Presidents Cup Betting Shows The USA With A Slight Edge Over International Team

September 29, 2011

The Presidents Cup in golf may not hold the same prestige as the Ryder Cup but it does remain an important tournament on the calendar as the USA Team get ready to take on a team of players from outside of Europe. The Presidents Cup has been dominated by the United States side since it was first held in 1994 with the International Team only picking up the win once in 1998 and it is the US Team who are the warm favourites to win again this season with the matches taking place in Melbourne in November. It gives the US Team a great warm up to the Ryder Cup next year and captain Fred Couples has a strong team at his disposal including Tiger Woods who has been awarded a wild card for the tournament, they will head down under as the warm favourites to take the win.

Fred Couples is a well respected player on the US Tour and he will be leading the side for the second time having led them to success two years ago in San Francisco, the bookmaker Boylesports make the US Team the hot favourites to win the matches and they can be backed at 8/13 to claim the Presidents cup Outright in Melbourne. All eyes will be on the form of Tiger Woods who has continued to slip down the rankings over the past few months and he will be looking to regain his best form in Australia, Woods does have a good record in the Presidents Cup and he will be hoping the tournament will kick start his flagging career.

The International Team take the Presidents Cup very seriously and although they don’t have a great record in the tournament they will be hopeful of improving that record this year, Captain Greg Norman looks to have a strong team this time around and they are sure to be competitive in Australia. Norman will be looking to the Aussie contingent in his team to lead from the front with Jason Day, Adam Scott and Geoff Ogilvy some of the star names on the International squad for Melbourne. If they and others perform well they could run the US Team close and that is reflected in their latest price of 6/5 with Boylesports to claim their first win since 1998. The Presidents Cup is a growing event on the golfing calendar and there seems to plenty of media attention on the tournament this season which can only be a good thing, there is no doubt he US Team looks stronger on paper but we feel it could prove to a little bit tighter than the previous few years.

To Make 2012 European Ryder Cup Team Betting Looking Tight As Qualification Starts

September 16, 2011

We maybe a year away from the 2012 Ryder Cup taking place but attention is already starting to turn to who will make the team in Europe after the qualification period started recently. The top five players between now and the 2012 Johnnie Walker Classic at Gleneagles on the European Points list will be joined by the top five players not already qualified on the World Points List as the European Ryder Cup team in Medinah. The European Captain for Medinah is Jose Maria Olazabal and he will have two wild card picks to add to that list as he bids to lead the defence of the Cup the Europeans won so memorably at Celtic Manor last year, he and his players are the favourites to win the Cup in the US but first the players will have to make sure they make the cut for the team.

There is a competitive betting market available for punters regarding which players will make the team and there are a number of players who are almost definitely going to be in Medinah according to Skybet. Perhaps the two most important players for Europe next year will be the massively experienced Lee Westwood and the current US Open Champion Rory McIlroy, both of them will be in the team barring injuries and SkyBet make them 1/33 shots to do just that. As well as Mcilroy and Westwood the betting is telling us that the likes of Luke Donald, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell and Ian Poulter are likely to be in Chicago next year, they will make up the nucleus of a strong and experienced European team for Olazabal in 2012.

The market about who will make the European team really starts to come alive as you look further down the list of potential players and there are some interesting names to have a closer look at. One name that stands out on the list is that of Sergio Garcia, he was a Ryder Cup stalwart for many years before a loss in form saw him miss out in 2010 and it will be interesting to see if he can realise his dream and regain his place in 2012. Garcia is a massively popular player on and off the course and his recent performances have been encouraging, Garcia is currently available at 7/4 with Skybet.com to make the team for Medinah. European golf is going through a massive boom at the moment and that is backed up by the list of top quality players looking to make the Ryder Cup team, there will be some world class names who will miss out in 2012 and everyone will be aiming to make sure that does not happen to them.

Continental Europe the Slight Favourites In Seve Trophy Betting

September 8, 2011

The Seve Trophy takes on extra significance this year after the passing of the great golfer earlier back in May and following the announcement of the two teams we look set for a fantastic few days in Paris. The Seve Trophy has taken place since 2000 and sees a Continental European team take on a Great Britain and Ireland team in a slightly less competitive version of the Ryder Cup, the tournament was driven by Seve before his death with his passion for team golf the spark for the event which takes place in September every other year. As well as being a big tournament in its own right it offers the players a chance of playing team and match play golf as well as giving potential Ryder Cup players the experience of team competition which they would not otherwise get.

The continental European team do look slightly stronger on paper this year and are captained by French golfer Jean Van de Velde for the first time, they will be looking to their star names like Francesco Molinari, Thomas Bjorn and Miguel Angel Jimenez to lead from the front whilst they also have a nice mix of youngsters and potential 2012 Ryder Cup stars in their squad. Continental Europe are currently priced at 4/5 with VC Bet to lift the trophy for only the second time in the tournaments short history. The European side won the first edition of the Seve trophy back in 2000 but have failed to pick up the title since which is something that Jean Van de Velde will be eager to put right over the next few days in his homeland and they do look to have a strong team.

The GB and Ireland Team have eon the last five editions of the Seve Trophy and will be eager to make it number six, they won two years ago in Paris and Paul McGinley is back to captain the team for the second successive time. McGinley is very much seen as a future Ryder Cup Captain and this experience is sure to do his chances no harm at all, especially if he can record another comprehensive victory. It is fair to see the GB and Ireland team are missing a few star names but will have the services of Lee Westwood, Daren Clarke and Ian Poulter who will be expected to lead from the front with their Ryder Cup experience, if they all fire then they will be tough to beat and the GB and Ireland price of Evens with Victor Chandler will prove to be good value. The Seve Trophy may not have the kudos and prestige of something like the Ryder Cup but it proves valuable experience for the youngers players on tour whilst serving as a great memory for one of the great European golfers of all time.

Luke Donald The Warm Favourite in The PGA Tour Money List Winner Betting

August 24, 2011

It has been a vintage year on the PGA Tour in 2011 and so far the stand-out player has been Luke Donald who has risen to the top of the World rankings with a series of consistent performances. The man from England is still yet to win a Major but he has proven himself one of the best in the world over the past 12 months, he finds himself at the top of the PGA Tour Money list at the moment and the bookmakers believe he will remain there until the end of the year. The PGA Tour Money list ranks the players in order of the prize money they have won over the season and Donald is currently in the driving seat as we enter the back end of the year.

Donald picked up a big win at the WGC World Match Play back in February which started his year with a bang and he has been out in front ever since, it was a massive win in Arizona and Paddy Power make him a 13/8 shot to maintain that lead for the rest of the season. Donald has managed to stay at the top of the money list because of his ultra consistent form, he has had top ten finishes in the Masters and the USPGA Championship which also gave his prize money a big lift and that could be enough to see him home. The closest challenger to Donald at the moment and over the next few months looks like being Nick Watney who himself has had something of a breakthrough year on the PGA Tour.

Watney is one of the most exciting young Americans on tour at the moment and he has picked up two wins so far this season, he won his first WGC title back in March at the Cadillac Championship before winning the AT&T tournament in July in impressive fashion. Watney is just behind Luke Donald on the current PGA Tour Money list and he can be backed at 4/1 with Paddy Power to end the season on top of the money rankings. It has to be said that Donald and Watney look to be out on their own at the moment and it is difficult to see past the pair when having a bet on the PGA tour Money List winner. There is however still plenty to play for and both players are likely to make a big push to end the best year’s of their career on an even higher note.

PGA Tour Money List Betting 2011 with Paddy Power

  • 13/8 – Luke Donald

Rory McIlroy The Favourite To Be The Next European Golfer To Win A Major Championship

August 8, 2011

European golfers have ruled the roost in the Major Championships over the past 18 months with a number of top class young players making the breakthrough to the very top of the game and there is a competitive market on offer for the next European to win a Major. The talk of the tour at the moment continues to surround Rory McIlroy who was a brilliant winner of the US Open back in June, and he is the player that Sportingbet expect to to continue that trend with the next major now on the horizon and an army of European players heading across the pond to the USPGA.

As well as McIlroy we have seen Graeme McDowell, Darren Clarke and Martin Kaymer claim Majors for Europe over the past 18 months and there are a number of other players queuing up to claim a Major title as soon as possible. Kaymer is the defending Champion at the USPGA Championships and with that one the next Major on the horizon his price of 8/1 with Sportingbet to be the next European to win a Major could prove excellent value. The German has been a real star of the game over the past 18 months and he has the game to win multiple Majors during his career and it would be no surprise to see him continue that form starting at the upcoming USPGA in Atlanta.

As well as the players already with a Major to their name it is worth considering one of Europeans without a Major win on their CV in this market with plenty of top class players on the brink of making the big breakthrough. Lee Westwood seems to have been trying to win a Major for years now and he looks set to continue to be a Major threat over the next year or two making him one to watch in this market. Westwood can be backed at 9/2 with Sportingbet.com to be the next Major winner from Europe, he has gone close at all the big tournaments in recent times and will be desperate to end that drought as soon as possible. Such is the strength and depth in Europe at the moment that there are a number of players to consider here, there are the more experienced names as well as the young and upcoming names with value to be found across the board for shrewd punters.

USPGA Championship Betting Looking Tight As Kaymer Gets Ready to Defend Title

August 1, 2011

The final Major Championship of the season is on the horizon and all the best players in the world are getting ready to head to Atlanta for the USPGA Championship. Traditionally the tournament is the final Major of the year and it gives all the players one last chance to win one of the big four titles, at the moment golf is going through a boom with a number of players in form and ready to challenge for the title. The betting for the final Major of the year is offering punters plenty of value at this stage with Boylesports making Rory McIlroy the 9/1 favourite to win his second Major of the season.

McIlroy showed his brilliant talent to the world when he won the US Open back in June in stunning fashion but since then his form has dropped away slightly, he has been the subject of plenty of media interest since his win in Washington and it will be interesting to see how he fares in Atlanta. There is no doubt that an in-form McIlroy is the man to beat in at the USPGA but punters wanting a little bit more value may want to look further down the betting market. One not to ignore is defending Champion Martin Kaymer who will return to defend the trophy he won so well at Whistling Straits in 2010, the the German can be backed at a good looking 22/1 with Boyelsports to win at the Atlanta Athletic Club.

It is hard to talk about a Major Golf Championship without mentioning the name of tiger Woods and the former World No.1 will be the centre of attention at the USPGA once again as he plays his first Major since the Masters in April. Since playing at Augusta Woods has split with his caddie, misses the US and British Opens with injury and fallen outside of the worlds top 20 and he will be keen to put that all behind him at the USPGA. Woods is without a Major tournament win since 2008 and while he has shown no sort of form in 2011 he is still reasonably short in the betting for the USPGA, Woods can be backed at 14/1 with Boylesports to win his 15th major Championship in Atlanta this month.

USPGA Championship Betting Odds with Boylesports

  • 9/1 – Rory McIlroy
  • 12/1 – Lee Westwood
  • 14/1 – Phil Mickelson
  • 14/1 – Tiger Woods
