Will Villa suprise Sir Alex in the Carling Cup Final

February 25, 2010

Earlier this month Aston Villa met Manchester United in the Barclays Premier League in a game that pretty much decided in the first half, with the game ending 1-1, but we did get to see a sending off for United and Villa scoring an own goal.  Nani’s sending off unfortunately it means he will be serving a three match and be ineligible for this fixture.

Now the two teams must meet again for the second time this month for the Carling Cup final (well the Football League Cup Final is its real name!) on Sunday 28th February from Wembley Stadium. Odds look like a win for Sir Alex’s side as the current holders of the trophy, but cup finals can bring out the best and worst in teams!

The bookmakers Victor Chandler are running a cash back betting offer on this game. If the match goes to the dreaded penalties then they will refund all losing first goal scorer bets and correct score bets as a free bet.

Can Tevez put in a repeat performance against his former team?

January 25, 2010

This Wednesday night sees the second leg of the Carling Cup tie between Manchester’s footballing giants.  City are on a roll at the moment having progressed to next round of the FA Cup following an exciting fixture against Scunthorpe at the weekend and also beating United last week in the first leg of this fixture.

Manchester United’s league form has been excellent of late they have had several high scoring games (admittedly against teams much lower in the league) and it was only the blip last week against City that has marred their form and with the fixture being at Old Trafford they will be hoping that the twelfth man factor will give them the edge over Roberto Mancini’s side.

  • 4/6 – Manchester United win
  • 9/2 – Manchester City win
  • 13/5 - Draw

If former United striker and current City golden boy Carlos Tevez scores the final goal of the game Paddy Power will refund all losing first and last goal scorers as well as correct score and scorecast singles made on the match. According to Paddypower Tevez is currently at odds of 8/1 to score the last goal of the game.

City are still the favourites for rescheduled Carling Cup fixture

January 18, 2010

This is despite Roberto Mancini’s side suffering their first defeat under his leadership when Manchester City were beaten 2-0 by an inform Everton side. United on the other hand have not lost a game since their shock exit from the FA Cup when Leeds managed to beat them 1-0.

Match Postponed!

Due to adverse weather that has affected games and other sporting events this game has been postponed and will be rescheduled shortly.

Odds point to Manchester City progressing to the Carling Cup Semi Finals

December 2, 2009

Arsenal brave the long journey up the M6 tonight for the Carling Cup quarter final clash against Manchester City at the City of Manchester Stadium. The winner of the fixture will go through to the semi final and can be watched live on Sky Sports 2.

Mark Hughes will be pleased that the majority of his squad has now returned to full fitness, he however won’t be enjoying the recent bad press he has had following his sides draw against lowly Hull. He has also being criticised for the amount that City has spent on agent fees over the last year which comes in at a whopping £13 million, more than the entire spending budget of several Coca Cola Championship clubs combined!

Arsne Wenger teams increasing injury list has meant he has had up to call up Kyle Bartley and Craig Eastmond from the reserve squad, these however will be backed up by Phillipe Senderos and Mikael Silvestre who are expected to feature in the side.

Manchester United and Spurs in Carling Cup quarter final action

December 1, 2009

The Carling Cup has reached the quarter final stages with two matches tonight and the remaining two taking place on Wednesday. The match will get the most attention tonight is between Manchester United and Spurs which takes place at Old Trafford tonight from 8.00.

Tonight will give Alex Ferguson a chance to field some of his younger players and give others like Gary Neville a well earned rest he is also expecting to replace Tomasz Kuszcza with Ben Foster. The odds point heavily to a United win tonight as historically United not last the 20 fixtures against Spur, winning 15 of them, in all competitions they have met 170 times with United winning 79 opposed to Spurs 46 games with 45 being drawn.

Spurs were beaten in last years final on penalties by United and will be hoping to get some payback in this fixture but they have not managed to win at Old Trafford in just 20 years and United have not been beating in the Carling Cup since 2007 when they were destroyed by an amazing performance from Championship side Coventry City.

Arsenal versus Liverpool Carling Cup odds and cashback offer

October 28, 2009

The Carling Cup 4th round ties conclude tonight with the winner going through to the quarter finals and the key match to watch will be the fixture between the Premier Leagiue top 5 sides Arsenal and Liverpool. Police will be hoping for a quieter affair following the scenes of violence at Oakwell last night in the match between Barnsely and Manchester United.

Arsenal will be looking to mix young and old on the pitch tonight as Arsene Wenger will give some of his younger players some experience and he is expected to field a very mixed side, Rafael Benitez on the other hand will be looking to capitalise on the weekends win against league leaders Manchester United and will field a strong team but are likely to be without goal scorers Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, it was Liverpool’s first major win in weeks and it could help the manager keep his job.

Stan James are continuing their cash back offer on the first goal scorer market, if you place a bet on the first goal scorer in this match and your player fails to score first but goes on to score at anytime during the match they will refund your stake money back as a freee bet.

September 23, 2009

Following the controversy that surrounded the amount of extra time played in Manchester United’s game with local rivals Manchester City that resulted in an amazing 7 minutes of extra time being played after only 4 minutes was supposed to be played and Michael Owen managed to score in the final minutes which allowed United to win the game and claim all three points. The bookmakers Paddy Power are running a betting special on how many minutes of extra time in the second half that Manchester United are awarded.

Amount of injury time in Man Utd v Wolves match

(Not incl extra time, 2nd half injury time only)

There were no real surprises in last nights Carling Cup matches other than Peterborough beating former Premier League stars Newcastle United, the closet was Stokes 4-3 win over Blackpool, tonight’s fixture should be an easy win for Sir Alex Ferguson’s team who are the current holders of the trophy although the odds do say this is the round that they usually find problems in.

Man Utd v Wolves Match Odds

  • 1/3 – Manchester United
  • 15/2 – Wolverhampton Wanderers
