Nadal Favourite In Rome Despite Madrid Defeat

May 9, 2011

The clay maestro Rafael Nadal is the favourite to win the ATP Tour Rome Masters despite losing to Novak Djokovic in the Madrid Open final on Sunday in straight sets. The Serbian’s impressive 7-5 6-4 win took his 2011 undefeated streak to 32 matches whilst simultaneously ending Nadal’s record of 37 consecutive wins on clay. At 2/1 with Stan James you won’t get much better odds for Djokovic to record his fourth ATP Masters Series win of the year.

Rafa’s confidence would have taken some battering following his defeat to Djokovic, and the Spaniard faces a tough draw in Rome with the likes of Roger Federer, David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych and Thomaz Bellucci in his side of the draw. He faces a possible semi-final clash with Federer, whom he beat in three sets last week. Nadal also has a 10-1 record against Federer on clay and with the Swiss struggling for form on the surface this year you would count it as a big upset for him to overcome Nadal and reach the final. Federer can nonetheless never be ruled out, and Stan James have priced him at 11/1 to win his first Masters tournament of the year.

After disappointing in Madrid, Andy Murray will be determined to bounce back and put in an impressive performance in Rome ahead of the French Open later this month. You can back the Scot with Stan James at 25/1. Elsewhere David Ferrer looks good value at 18/1, whilst Thomas Berdych, who took a set of Djokovic in the semi-finals last week, is priced at 50/1. Alternatively Gael Monfils, who bizarrely had to retire last week after an allergic reaction to cheese, has long odds of 80/1.

Rome Masters Odds

  • 1/2 – Rafael Nadal
  • 2/1 – Novak Djokovic
  • 11/1 – Roger Federer
  • 18/1 – David Ferrer
  • 25/1 – Andy Murray
  • 28/1 – Robin Soderling
  • 40/1 – Nikolay Davydenko
  • 50/1 – Thomas Belluci
  • 50/1 – Thomas Berdych
  • 80/1 – Gael Monfils
  • 80/1 – Stanislas Wawinka

Manchester United v Schalke 04 Betting Specials

May 4, 2011

Manchester United face Schalke 04 tonight live on ITV at 7:45pm in the second-leg of their Champions League semi-final. United put in a superb display last week in Germany and came away with a fully deserved 2-0 win, courtesy of goals from Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney. The Red Devils dominated from start to finish and are odds on favourites at 1/2 to win again tonight and seal their passage through to the final against Barcelona. If you place a bet on any goalscorer market in the match and the match finishes 0-0 then Stan James will refund your money as a free-bet.

With one eye on their potentially title deciding Premier League match against Chelsea on Sunday, Sir Alex Ferguson may rest a couple of his key players, and the Scot is rumoured to be starting with Dimitar Berbatov. The Bulgarian international will be eager to impress after being out of favour recently and can be backed at 7/2 to open the scoring and 20/1 to bag himself a hat-trick. Michael Owen is also set to take some part in the match and is available at 4/1 to score the last goal of the game. United legend Ryan Giggs opened the scoring last Tuesday and Stan James have him priced at 15/2 to do the same tonight.

Schalke face a near-impossible task of progressing through to the final at Wembley as no team has ever qualifed after losing their first match at home 2-0. However, this is the same team who destroyed Inter Milan 5-2 at the San Siro a few weeks ago, and you never know, football is a very unpredictable game. If they have even a slight possibility of progressing they will need their strikers to play the game of their lives. Raul has tormented United on several occasions in the past and the all-time Champions League goalscorer is available at 8/1 to notch the first goal of the night. Jefferson Farfan at 3/1 and Edu at 10/3 can be backed with Stan James to score any anytime during the match.

It will be a close game but you feel United have the experience, talent and professionalism to clinch it, with a 2-1 home win a likely outcome at 6/1 with Stan James.

Match Betting Odds

  • 1/2 – Manchester United
  • 6/1 – Schalke 04
  • 10/3 – Draw

To Qualify to the Champions League final

  • 1/80 – Manchester United
  • 16/1 – Schalke 04

Match Specials

UK Could Be Set To End Blue Run According To Latest Eurovision Betting

April 20, 2011

We now just weeks away from the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in Germany and with the latest betting now starting to hot up there are a number of countries being backed to perform well in Dusseldorf on the 14th May. The UK have a terrible record in the competition over the past ten years but the bookmakers believe that could end this year with Blue set to take to the stage in the hope of avoiding the dreaded ‘Nil Poi’ from the voters around Europe. In recent years we have seen block voting take prominence in the Eurovision song contest with main land Europe voting for their next door neighbours leaving the UK out in the cold, that could change this year though with Blue set to rely on a strong fan base from their younger boy band days.

Blue will be entering the contest with the song I can and Stan James believe they have a chance of winning and have priced them at just 7/1 to do just that, much of that is down to the reliance on the popularity of Blue who during the first part of the 21st Century were one of the biggest boy bands in Europe. The lads have been touring Europe to drum up much needed support for the UK who came bottom of the whole pile in 2010, with that in mind it would be a remarkable turnaround for them to claim the win in Germany.

In recent years the Eastern Block countries have dominated the competition with tactical voting and the strongest of those nations this year looks to be Estonia who are as short as 6/1 with Stan James to win for the second time in their history. It would be no surprise to see them triumph again this year but the ones to beat look to be France who are the market leaders at just 4/1 to win, their song is sung by Amaury Vassili and all the rumours suggest it is a potential winner of the competition. It could be that the UK could well be the dark horse this year with Blue set to be the most famous entrants in the competition with an army of female fans to rely on from across Europe which should secure them at least a respectable amount of votes.

Monte Carlo Masters: Nadal the favourite in Djokovic’s absence

April 11, 2011

The Monte Carlo Masters marks the official start of the clay court season and with the in-form Novak Djokovic absent through injury it is difficult to look beyond the World No.1 Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard, who has a record of 34-1 at this event, is the clear favourite with Stan James at 1/4. Nadal breezed to victory here last year without dropping a single set and will be determined to kick-start his season with a commanding performance on his preferred surface.

Both Djokovic and Robin Soderling will miss the third masters of the year due to knee injuries. Djokovic has been the star performer on the men’s tour this year and has already collected a stunning five titles; Hopman Cup, Australian Open, Dubai Open, Indian Wells Open and the Sony Ericsson Open, and in the process he has taken his unbeaten streak to an incredible 26 matches. Soderling has reached the final of the French Open for the past two years and will be dissapointed to miss this Masters event.

The draw has paired Nadal with the likes of Tomas Berdych, Andy Murray and Richard Monfils. Murray is currently going through a dismal run, failing to win a single set since the semi-finals of the Australian Open back in January. However, the Scot will be  is currently working with the Adidas coaches Darren Cahill and Sven Groeneveld until he finds a permanent coach and this may just give him a new lease of life. Murray is available with Stan James at 33/1.

On the other side of the draw is Roger Federer, who similarly to Nadal has had a subdued start to 2011, although this is predominantly due to the excellence of Djokovic. Although clay is Federer’s least favourite surface he is always a threat and is worth a punt at 11/2. The clay court specialist and on-form David Ferrer is available at a very tempting 16/1 whilst Nicolas Almagro looks good at 22/1 and last year’s runners-up Fernando Verdasco is at odds of 40/1.

  • 11/2 – Roger Federer

Danny Welbeck 6/1 to score first on England debut

March 29, 2011

Danny Welbeck has been called up to the England squad to face Ghana in place of the injured Aaron Lennon, and the striker will be gunning to score for the three lions should Fabio Capello offer him a chance to shine. Stan James are offering tempting odds of 6/1 for the Manchester United player, who is currently on loan at Sunderland, to net first in England’s international friendly against Ghana tonight. The young striker is brimming with confidence having scored for the England Under-21s last Thursday in their 4-0 demolition of Denmark.

Capello is expected to make numerous changes to the side that effortlessly defeated Wales at the weekend, with big name players such as Wayne Rooney, Ashley Cole, John Terry and Frank Lampard all returning to their clubs. Yesterday Capello confirmed that the Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry will be captaining the side having let John Terry return to Chelsea.

Welbeck has been in fine form for the Black Cats this season, forming a decent partnership with the Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan. Welbeck’s old Sunderland team mate Darren Bent – fresh from his goal against Wales – is amonsgt the favourites to score the first goal of the game at 5/1 with Stan James, with Liverpool’s £35m man Andy Carroll also priced at 5/1 to score first.

For those of you wanting to back England’s second team to win tonight at Wembley can do so at odds of 8/11 with Stan James. A draw is available at 13/5, whilst Ghana are 4/1 to become the first African side to win on English soil. The match is live on ITV at 8pm.

Free Bets For Punters If Woods Or Mickelson Win The US Masters

March 28, 2011

England Facing Tough Cricket World Cup Task Against Sri Lanka

March 25, 2011

England have been the stars of the Cricket World Cup so far with every match they have played going down to the wire, punters will remember they are the team that have already lost to minnows Ireland and Bangladesh as well as beating tournament favourites South Africa. With that in mind this weekends Quarter Final against Sri Lanka could well be another nail biter and Stan James are offering up some fascinating special markets for the match in Colombo with Andrew Strauss and his men facing an uphill task according to the latest betting.

Sri Lanka are as short as 1/2 to win with Stan James but there is some good value for punters in some more exciting betting markets. Jonathan Trott and Kumar Sangakarra have been in the runs all tournament and both are still in with a shout of claiming the top run scorer crown, and Stan James are offering a match bet between the two for the match on Saturday. Trott and Sangakarra can each be backed at 5/6 with Stan James and that is based on which of the two will score more runs in the match, Sangakarra has to be the more likely in this one with home crowd on his back.

Stan James also offer a fantastic Best Economy Market with punters looking to find the bowler who will concede the fewest runs, and there is no surprise to see the great Muttiah Muralitharan at the end of this one and he is priced at 7/2. The England alternative to Murali is of course Graeme Swann and he tends to keep things tight during his ten overs, making his price of 4/1 to be the most economical bowler an attractive one for punters.
