Pakistan vs England Betting – Ian Bell And Imran Farhat Refund Offer
January 24, 2012
England’s first match since becoming the Number One test team in the world ended in disaster. Following impressive wins over Australia, Sri Lanka and India in 2011, England were expected to push on and start 2012 with a bang. In contrast they were slammed back down to earth by Pakistan who thrashed them by 10 wickets in Dubai last week. England now have the chance to bounce back and prove themselves in the second test in Abu Dhabi. Pakistan start as the 5/2 favourites, while England have been handed odds of 9/4, with a draw available at evens. If Imran Farhat (Pakistan) or Ian Bell (England) are Top Batsmen for their side, Betfred will refund all losing bets on their side’s Top Batsman market.
England struggled with the conditions in the first test, with their usually consistent top order having an absolute shocker. They will be determined to get back to their free-scoring ways this week and prove that the first test was just a mere blip. Jonathan Trott has been installed as the 7/2 favourite to be England’s Top Batsman in the first innings, while Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss have both been priced at 4/1. Kevin Pietersen can be backed at 9/2, with Ian Bell available at 11/2. Meanwhile, Mohammad Hafeez and Younis Khan have both been handed odds of 7/2 to finish as the Top Pakistan Batsman.
Graeme Swann is the 7/4 favourite to finish as England’s Top Bowler (1st Innings), with Stuart Broad available at 11/4 and James Anderson at 3/1. Saeed Ajmal, who ruthlessly tore apart England in the first innings last week, is priced at 13/8 to be Pakistan’s Top Bowler, while Umar Gul, who took four wickets in the second innings, has odds of 11/4.

Irish Trained Winner Just 5/2 In Special Grand National Betting
January 12, 2012
The Irish have a great record in the Grand National and with the 2012 race now on the horizon there are a number of top contenders expected to head across the sea to take their chance at Aintree for the big race. The last Irish trained winner of the National was Silver Birch back in 2007 who was trained by Gordon Elliott and punters may want to have a closer look at the 5/2 on offer from Betfred about there being another winner added to that list in 2012.
There are of course a number of potential Irish trained National winners currently featuring in the Aintree betting who may be worth considering, the trainers to keep an eye on include Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott who will both be looking to add to previous success in the race. Elliott could be running the likes of Chicago Grey and Beautiful Sound who both look to have decent chances while Mullins will be looking to The Midnight Club who was well backed last year only to finish sixth and could improve this time around.
Another nice special for punters to have a close look at is for Paul Nicholls to finally train the winner of the National, the Master Of Ditcheat can be backed at 10/1 with Betfred to claim his first win in the race in 2012. Nicholls has won just about every big race in the sport apart from the National and he will be hoping the likes of Niche Market and The Minack among others maybe able to help him put an end to that drought this season. The National is always the biggest race of the season and that is particularly the case in 2012 with one of the most competitive betting markets in years starting to hot up as we approach the big race.

Long Run Available In Tempting Cheltenham Festival Special Bet
December 23, 2011
As we head into the New Year, preparations for the 2012 Cheltenham Festival begin to really hot up with punters looking to find some value in the ante post markets. One of the stars of Cheltenham in 2011 was Long Run who memorably won the Gold Cup for Nicky Henderson and Sam Waley-Cohen and there are plenty of specials surrounding his chances of repeating that trick in 2012. Betfred are the new sponsors of the Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival and they in particular are offering some very attractive specials surrounding the biggest race of the season in March with Long Run featured highly.
As well as Long Run, the other big star of the Cheltenham Festival last season was Hurricane Fly who was the highly impressive winner of the Champion Hurdle for Irish Trainer Willie Mullins. Betfred are offering a cracking price of 10/1 for both Hurricane Fly and Long Run to repeat their success from last year and win the Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle respectively this season. Hurricane Fly was far too good for the field last year in the Champion Hurdle and if he arrives at Cheltenham fit and well he will be a short price favourite and the same can be said of Long Run who is still an improving horse at seven years old.
The Hurricane Fly/Long Run double looks to be excellent value for such two top class horses but there are doubts surrounding the fitness of Hurricane Fly at the moment and Betfred seem happy to take him on. Trainer Willie Mullins has stated on several occasions he is a tough horse to get right at the best of times so with doubts surrounding his fitness it will be an interesting build up to the Festival in March. Long Run on the other hand was a clear winner of the Gold Cup horse and with most of his main rivals seemingly past their best he looks a warm and justified favourite for the big race even at this early stage which makes this special an intriguing one for punters.
Betfred Cheltenham Festival 2012 Betting Specials
- 10/1 – Hurricane Fly and Long Run Double To Win At the Cheltenham Festival
- 5/1 – Paul Nicholls to train the winner of the 2012 Gold Cup
- 5/1 – Irish trained horse to win the 2012 Gold Cup

India v England ODI Betting
October 13, 2011
England return to action on Friday 14th October for the first of five One Day Internationals against India. England, of course, recently thumped the Indians on home turf but they face an altogether different challenge away in India. India will be gunning for revenge following their embarrassing 3-0 defeat in England and bookmakers Betfred have priced them as the 4/6 favourites with England available at 6/5.
The first match gets underway in Hyderbad with India the narrow 4/5 favourites to get off to a winning start. England have been handed odds of 1/1 as they look to carry on from where they left off the last time the teams met. ECB Cricketer of the Year Jonathan Trott is the 10/3 favourite in the Top England Batsman betting for the first encounter. If England can produce the form they did during the summer then they will certainly be the team to beat. Providing they are on top form they look good value at 5/2 to come away series winners at a score of 3-2. Alternatively they are priced at 11/2 to win the series 4-1.
Captain Alastair Cook and Trott have both been priced at 3/1 in the Top England Series Batsman betting market, while Ian Bell could be a tempting bet at 5/1. Spinner Graeme Swann is the 9/4 favourite to finish as the Top England Series Bowler, with Tim Bresnan handed odds of 7/2.

Montenegro v England Betting – Money-Back Special with Betfred
October 4, 2011
Montenegro v England – Friday 4th October, Sky Sports 1 (8pm)
England currently lead Group G by six points and need just one more to qualify for the Euro 2012 Finals in Ukraine and Poland next summer. However, standing in their way is Montenegro who themselves still hold hopes of gaining the automatic qualification spot but, in order to do so, they must earn maximum points from their remaining two fixtures, which means they must beat England on Friday. With the strength of their team and on the basis of their recent away form (four wins out of four) England should really come away with the three points. The bookmakers certainly think so with Fabio Capello’s men the odds on 8/11 favourites with Betfred for the win, with Montenegro priced at 100/30. A draw is available at 9/4.
Betfred are offering a Double Delight betting special where if your player scores the first goal and then goes on to score again, Betfred will double your first goal scorer price and if he then goes on to score a hat-trick they will treble it. With that in mind Wayne Rooney looks a good bet as the 7/2 first goal scorer. The striker has been in scintillating form this season and is priced at 5/1 to score two or more goals and 20/1 to grab his third hat-trick of the season. Ashley Young has also enjoyed a fantastic start and is a tempting 8/1 to open the scoring and 9/2 to score anytime in an England win. A resurgent Frank Lampard can be found with odds of 13/2 to score the first goal of the match.
England will have to be aware of the likes of Dejan Damjanovic, who is available at 8/1 to score first, and the 9/1 priced Mirko Vucinic. After a flying start to qualification Montenegro have dipped slightly with one point from their last two games. However, a win against England will not only keep their automatic qualification hopes alive but fill them with confidence ahead of their final group match away to Switzerland.

Bulgaria v England Betting – First Goalscorer Specials with Betfred
September 1, 2011
Bulgaria v England – Friday 2nd September, 19.15pm (Sky Sports 1)
England face two crucial Euro 2012 qualifiers in the next week as they aim to take a huge step towards automatic qualification for the Finals next summer. First up for Fabio Capello’s men is a trip to Sofia on Friday where they will play Bulgaria. England are currently locked on 11 points with Montenegro at the top of Group G where as Bulgaria are down in 4th with just five points. The hosts must win in order to have any chance of qualifying for next year’s tournament in Poland and Ukraine so expect them to come out strong. The Three Lions have picked up maximum points from their two games on the road in qualification and will be gunning for three more points that will edge them closer to qualification. England beat Bulgaria convincingly 4-0 at Wembley last September and are the 1/2 favourites with Betfred to come out on top this time around.
Betfred are currently running a special where if the player you choose to score the first goal of the match then goes on to score again, then they will double your first goalscorer price. If your player goes on to score a hat-trick then they will treble it! Wayne Rooney has enjoyed a cracking start to the season and will be brimming with confidence following his hat-trick against Arsenal last Sunday. Rooney looks a good pick as the 3/1 favourite to open the scoring on Friday, with odds of 7/2 to get a brace and 16/1 to get himself another hat-trick. You can also find odds of 7/4 that Rooney scores anytime and England win.
Rooney’s new club team mate Ashely Young also grabbed himself two fine goals at the weekend and will most likely be in the starting line-up against Bulgaria. If so then the talented winger is a tempting 7/1 to open the scoring in Bulgaria, while fellow United player Tom Cleverley is an outside bet at 33/1 to score first. Elsewhere Darren Bent is priced at 4/1, with Andy Carroll and Jermaine Defore both available at 6/1 and Frank Lampard at 7/1. England should be too good for Bulgaria, with Rooney to score first and England to win 3-1 at 33/1 looking like a good outside bet.

England v India Fourth Test Betting With Betfred
August 17, 2011
With the series already wrapped up England will be looking to make it a whitewash in the fourth and final Test against India at The Oval on Thursday 18th August. England have been unplayable this series and as a result of their performances they have propelled themselves to the ICC No.1 Test team and have been touted as one of the best England teams ever. The talent of the team is unquestionable but its the team spirit, self-belief and strong morale which has really shone through in the last couple of weeks.
England won the first test by 196 runs, the second by 319 runs and the third by an innings and 242 runs. If the pattern continues then India are in for yet another hiding. Following his stunning 296 in the Third Test Alastair Cook has been installed as the 7/2 joint favourite to finish as England’s Top Batsman. Kevin Pietersen is also priced at 7/2 while captain Andrew Strauss is available at 4/1. Place a bet on the first innings Top Batsman and if your selection scores a century but is not the Top Batsman then Betfred will refund your losing stake. Due to his consistency in the Series Pietersen is the odds on 4/6 favourite to finish as the England Series Top Batsman, with Cook at 11/8 and the in-form Bell handed odds of 10/1.
India will be looking to restore some pride after a poor Test Series so far as they try to avoid a humiliating 4-0 whitewash. The team possesses a wealth of talent but for whatever reason they just haven’t clicked this Series. Granted, this is partly due to England’s ruthless bowling attack and destructive batting but it appears that the visitors preparation was all wrong and they simply didn’t expect to be up against such a ferocious team. Star player Sachin Tendulkar is still searching for that elusive 100th hundred and is priced at 7/2 to finish as India’s Top Batsman, with Rahul Dravid the 3/1 favourite and Virender Sehwag priced at 4/1.

Wayne Rooney Favourite In Premier League 2011/12 Top Goalscorer Betting
August 9, 2011
We are just days away from the start of the new Premier League season and one of the central talking points is who the main contenders for the sought after Golden Boot award are. Last season there was an avalanche of goals but strangely not one player who set the league alight with a flurry of individual goals, which is perhaps reflected in the low winning Golden Boot tally of 20, shared by Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov. This season the league’s strikers will be looking to make amends and return in blistering fashion with an abundance of goals. This is always a popular betting market to take advantage of some great pre-season odds with Betfred.
Wayne Rooney has been installed as the 8/1 favourite to finish as the 2011/12 Top Goalscorer. To many football fans this may come as a surprise as Rooney has firsty never actually got his hands on the award and secondly is not known for his prolific goalscoring record. Rooney endured a difficult start to the 2010/11 season as he not only had to bounce back from a woeful World Cup campaign but had to learn how to regain the United faithful’s love and trust following the furore over his future. However, the 25-year-old is chracterised by his trademark grit and determination and will no doubt be determined to open his account early this season. Rooney’s Mexican teammate Javier Hernandez is narrowly behind him in the betting, with odds of 17/2. ‘Chicharito’ was the surprise package last season – he scored 20 goals for United, 13 of which came in the league, and he will be looking to continue that streak into the new season. If both Rooney and Hernandez are firing on all cylinders then United have a lethal partnership at their disposal.
With all the attention on Rooney and Hernandez, it is difficult to remember that last year’s Golden Boot winner was actually Dimitar Berbatov, who scored 20 goals despite regular appearances from the bench towards the latter half of the season. The Bulgarian has been handed odds of 20/1 to retain his title but it is difficult to judge how many starts he is going to get. All three strikers will be benefited by wingers Antonio Valencia, Nani (18 assists last season) and new recruit Ashley Young who will be firing in inch perfect crosses for them to latch onto.
United’s fierce rivals Manchester City have again spent heavily, this time splashing out a whopping £38m for the extremely talented Sergio Aguero from Athletico Madrid. The striker has, rather surprisingly, been handed relatively short odds of 12/1 to finish as the Premier League’s Top Goalscorer. Although he certainly has the ability to score a bucket load of goals, he will probably take some time to settle as he won’t be used to the speed and physical nature of the Premier League. Carlos Tevez has been handed odds of 14/1, which would certainly represent good value if you knew that the Argentine was definitely staying at the club. Edin Dzeko has been priced at 20/1 while controversial striker Mario Balotelli could be worth a gamble at 25/1.
Outside of Manchester there is of course an abundance of other talented hitsman looking to make their mark this season. Top of the list is Chelsea’s Fernando Torres who will be more determined than ever to start smashing in the goals after mustering just a solitary goal last season after his big-money move to Stamford Bridge. The Spaniard is available at 9/1, while his teammates and former winners of the award, Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka are available at 14/1 and 25/1 respectively.
Providing he stays injury free Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie is a great shout at 9/1. The Dutchman was sensation in the second half of 2011 and everyone associated the club will be hoping he can continue in that rich vein of form into the new season. However, his tally may not be too high if playmakers Cesc Fabregas and Samuel Nasri were to leave the club this summer. The duo’s workrate and ability to pick out Van Persie is crucial to him finding the back of the net. Elsewhere you get the feeling that Liverpool are due a big season and last January they recruited two magnificent signings in Luis Suarez (12/1) and Andy Carroll (20/1) and both will be eager to get off to a flying start in their first full season with the club. Lets not forget the proven Premier League goalscorer Darren Bent who is definitely worth a punt at 12/1.
Top Goalscorer Odds
- 8/1 – Wayne Rooney
- 17/2 – Javier Hernandez
- 9/1 – Fernando Torres
- 9/1 – Robin Van Persie
- 12/1 – Darren Bent
- 12/1 – Sergio Aguero
- 12/1 – Luis Suarez
- 14/1 – Carlos Tevez
- 14/1 – Didier Drogba
- 20/1 – Dimitar Berbatov
- 20/1 – Andy Carroll
- 20/1 – Edin Dzeko
- 25/1 – Mario Balotelli
- 25/1 – Nicolas Anelka

Tottenham Lead The Race In Joey Barton Next Club Betting
August 2, 2011
Newcastle United are inexcusably letting one of their best players, Joey Barton, leave for free this summer, a decision that will surely infuriate the majority of their supporters, whose patience was severely tested last month after the departure of their captain and most inspirational player Kevin Nolan. Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has reportedly grown tired of Barton’s unflattering tweets about the club and its hierarchy and as a result has lost patience with the player and given him the boot. In the past six months Ashley has let his three best players leave the club, the other being Andy Carroll for £35m in the January transfer window, whilst failing to bring in any players that are likely to capture the imagination of the club’s passionate supporters.
Barton is certainly not the most popular of players, but few can deny his talent, ability and determination. The 28-year-old put in a number of high quality performances for the Magpies last season, which helped the club achieve a respectable 12th place finish in their first season back in the Premier League. Newcastle’s surprise decision to release the midfielder opens up an intriguing betting market as a number of big club’s begin to express their interest in snapping up the player on a free transfer.
Barton is not short of self-confidence and often boasts about how he is one of the most gifted midfielders in England, so it is almost certain that he will opt for a club in England’s top flight. The bookmakers Betfred have placed Tottenham as the 5/2 favourites to secure the services of Barton. If anyone can get the best of the contentious player then it’s surely Harry Redknapp, who is well known for his player-management and motivational skills. Elsewhere, Everton are in the running with odds of 100/30, as are Arsenal at 9/2 and Stoke City at 11/2. Defending Premier League champions Man Utd are also up there at 8/1, however, at present they are more concerned with prizing Wesley Sneijder away from Inter Milan.
Betfred also have Barton at just 6/1 to follow in Nolan’s footsteps and join Championship club West Ham and long odds of 50/1 to return to his former club Man City, with the same odds to join Premier League giants Chelsea.
Whoever Barton decides to join is definitely in for an entertaining ride. If the player can continue to control his aggression and fiery temper, as he did last season, then football supporters can start to enjoy the more positive aspects of his game that can make him a welcome addition to many top flight clubs.
