Poor X Factor winner Joe McElderry lost out in the battle for the Christmas number one to Rage Against the Machines infamous “Killing in the Name” song due to a campaign that was engineered on the social networking site Facebook.  Joe lost out by around 50,000 sales, with Rage clocking in at an incredible 500,000 downloads, making it the most downloaded song in the UK ever and the first ever download only number one single. Following this upset to the X-Factor apple cart the bookies Paddy Power believe that this event could have put a scupper on the career of poor Joe.
