It’s that time of year when the British music industry is gearing up for the buggest night on the calendar with the 2012 Brit Awards fast approaching. It has been a great year of success for British music with a number of new acts making the big breakthrough and featuring in several categories at the Brits. Ed Sheeran has burst onto the scene in the last six months and according to the bookmakers he could be the artist to watch at the O2 Arena after he was nominated for no less than four awards next month.

The award for Best Male is always one of the big ones and Paddy Power make Sheeran the 1/4 favourite to lift the gong at this stage. It appears that Sheeran has at least one gong in the bag and will be looking to double up in the Best Breakthrough Act for which is also the hot favourite at 4/7 with Paddy Power with only Jessie J likely to offer him any real competition in according to the latest show of betting.

Sheeran is also nominated for the prestigious Best Album award at the Brits but that prize looks set to go to Adele who has had a monster year on both sides of the Atlantic. Her album, 21, has sold a mammoth amount in the UK and the London born singer can be backed at just 1/12 with Paddy Power to claim the award next month. There is no doubt that Adele has that one in the bag but it could be that ed Sheeran is the star of the 2012 Brit Awards, with four nominations to his name he looks a good thing for at least two awards to cap a stunning year for the young singer-songwriter.
