Arsenal v MarseilleTuesday 7.45pm Sky Sports 2
Villarreal  v Man City - Wednesday 7.45pm Sky Sports 2

Europe’s most lucrative football competition returns to our screens this week as we enter into the second-half of the Group Stages. On Tuesday in-form Arsenal entertain Marseille at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners have shrugged off their wobbly start to the season with eight wins in their last nine matches, including a stunning 5-3 win at Chelsea on Sunday. Arsene Wenger’s men stunned Marseille in their previous meeting in October with a last gasp winner courtesy of Aaron Ramsey and they look like a good bet to come away with another win against the French side. The result in France propelled Arsenal to top spot with seven points, while Marseille are just a point behind in second. Arsenal should extend their lead on Tuesday night, with Paddy Power making them the odds-on 8/13 favourites, while Marseille are priced at 9/2 to come away with the three points.

If Robin Van Persie scores the last goal, Paddy Power will refund all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score & scorecast singles on this match. The flying Dutchman scored a hat-trick at the weekend, taking his 2011 tally to an incredible 28 goals in 27 league games. The 28-year-old is the 7/2 favourite to open the scoring on Tuesday and is also available at 12/1 to score another hat-trick. Gervinho is available at 6/1 to be the game’s First Goalscorer while Theo Walcott has been handed odds of 7/1.

In contrast to their stunning league form Man City have struggled to get to grips with the Champions League this season. City are currently third in Group A and you feel that they must come away with a win against Villarreal if they are to challenge Bayern Munich for top spot. Paddy Power have installed Roberto Mancini’s men as the 8/13 favourites for the win, while Villarreal are 9/2 to record a much needed three points. Paddy Power are also running a money-back special on the game whereby if a goal is scored in the last five minutes, then they will refund all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score & scorecast singles on this match. Sergio Aguero is the bookies favourite to open the scoring with odds of 9/2 while the in-form Edin Dzeko is available at 5/1 to score first. It will probably be a tight contest, with a 2-1 City win at 13/2 looking like a good bet.

Sergio Garcia 5/1 For Major Success In 2012 After Return To Form

October 31, 2011

Sergio Garcia has long been considered the best player in the world yet to win a Major Championship in golf, he has spent the past ten years going close to glory on a number of occasions and will be hoping 2012 will be the year that drought ends. Garcia had been in the golfing wilderness for the past couple of years, he seemed to have fallen out of love with the game as he dropped down the rankings and was showing no signs of his ability which on his best day is second none. After a break from the game though Garcia has returned fresh and ready to return to the summit of the game, that has been highlighted with two successive wins on the European Tour which has seen him rise back to the top 20 in the world rankings.

Garcia is back playing golf with a smile on his face and that will make him a dangerous threat when the players turn up at Augusta for the first Major of the 2012 season, Bet365 now rate him as short as 5/1 to win any of the four Majors in 2012. That price would have been unthinkable just a couple of months ago but following his return to form he will now arrive at each of the four Majors full of confidence and with the game to win any tournament. It is also worth noting that with the Ryder Cup on the horizon Garcia will be desperate to return to the European team in 2012 which will surely given extra motivation fin all of the big tournaments during 2012.

Punters wanting to back Garcia to win a Major Championship in 2012 may want to take a close look at the US Masters which will as always be the first one on the calendar in April, Garcia can be backed at 25/1 with Bet365.com to claim his first Major win at Augusta and that could prove a nice piece of value. World Golf is as strong as it ever has been at the moment and the return to form of Sergio Garcia is a welcome one for punters he is one of the most popular players on tour and many will be hoping he finally breaks his Major duck in 2012.

Sebastian Vettel Hot Favourite In Indian Grand Prix Betting

October 28, 2011

History will be made on Sunday 30th October when India holds its first ever Grand Prix. When the racers line-up for the first time on the Buddh International Circuit the majestic Sebastian Vettel will be eyeing up his 11th win of a truly dominant season. With the Drivers Championship already wrapped up the German superstar would be forgiven for taking his foot of the gas, but with records to be broken he will no doubt be going all out for the win, and William Hill have him as the hot Evens favourite.

The circuit is believed to be one of the fastest on the calendar which should suit McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton. However, the controversial Englishman has suffered yet another set-back, in what has been a disappointing season, after he was penalised with a drop of three grid positions after ignoring double waved yellow flags in practice. Hamilton is available at 6/1 to win the race, with his teammate Jenson Button priced at 4/1 to come away with the victory. William Hill also have odds of 7/4 for either Hamilton or Button to win.

After impressing in Friday’s practice Felipe Massa may be worth a bet at 50/1, while his team mate Fernando Alonso is available at shorter odds of 15/2. Unbelievably Mark Webber has yet to win a single race this season and he is priced at 9/2 to break that duck in India on Sunday.

Race Winner Odds

  • Evens – Sebastian Vettel
  • 4/1 – Jenson Button
  • 9/2 – Mark Webber
  • 6/1 – Lewis Hamilton
  • 15/2 – Fernando Alonso
  • 50/1 – Felipe Massa
  • 100/1 – Nico Rosberg
  • 150/1 – Michael Schumacher

Premier League Red Card Betting Specials With Paddy Power

October 27, 2011

Chelsea v ArsenalSat. 12.45pm Sky Sports 2
Tottenham v QPRSun. 4pm Sky Sports 1
Stoke v NewcastleMon. 8pm Sky Sports 1

This weekend’s live games on Sky Sports look to be absolute crackers with the match between London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal the pick of the bunch. They are traditionally feisty affairs and, with that in mind, if there’s a Red Card in one of the above matches, Paddy Power will refund all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score & scorecast singles on that match.

Chelsea and Arsenal meet at Stamford Bridge in the lunch time kick-off match on Saturday. Since their dodgy start to the season Arsenal have gradually got back to form with five wins out of six in all competitions. However, they are yet to win away in the league this season with three defeats and one draw, meaning they will face a tough challenge to overcome Chelsea. Andre Villas-Boas’ men, who have been shown three red cards in their last two games, will be looking to continue their 100% home record this season and with Arsenal conceding 14 goals on the road you can expect a few more to fly in on Saturday. Paddy Power have Chelsea as the 4/6 favourites to extend their winning streak at home, while Arsenal are priced at 9/2 to come away with their first win on the road this season, with a draw available at 13/5. Chelsea look good value to win 2-1 with odds of 13/2, with Dean Sturridge priced at 9/2 to open the scoring and in-form Robin Van Persie at 7/1 to be the game’s first goalscorer.

The weekend’s other London derby is at White Hart Lane between Tottenham and QPR. The last time these two sides met was in the 1995/96 season with Spurs winning both fixtures. Harry Redknapp’s men have been in fantastic form recently, picking up 16 points from their last six league matches, and Paddy Power have them as the odds on 4/11 favourites for the win, while QPR have been handed relatively long odds of 8/1, with a draw available at 15/4. QPR have won twice on the road this season and will be buoyed by their win over Chelsea last Sunday. However, if Spurs are firing on all cylinders then we see them coming out on top 3-1 at odds of 9/1.

Monday’s match sees Stoke City host in-form Newcastle at the Britannia Stadium. Stoke are yet to lose to Newcastle in four matches between the sides in the Premier League and with home advantage you would expect that run to continue. However, Newcastle have defied the odds this season and find themselves unbeaten in the league this season and are currently sitting pretty  in 4th place with 19 points from nine games. It should be an intriguing encounter and a draw may be the way to go at 9/4, with 2-2 an option at 13/1. Paddy Power have priced Stoke as the 23/20 favourites while Newcastle can be found with odds of 9/4.

Premier League Match Specials

  • 7/1 – Anytime own goal in the Chelsea v Arsenal match
  • 11/2 – Demba Ba to score in a win for Newcastle at Stoke
  • 4/1 – Van der Vaart to score 2+ goals for Tottenham against QPR

Simon Cowell Odds On To Appear On UK X Factor As Ratings Continue To Slump

October 26, 2011

The current series of X-Factor in the UK is proving to be one of the most controversial yet, there have been accusations of bullying by contestants and judges falling out but the most alarming piece of news for the show is that the ratings continue to slump on Saturday night. The new look judging panel has failed to spark life into the show with the current ratings down a massive two million from the series last year, the public seem to be missing the likes of Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell who appear to have been vital to the success of the show. Cowell in particular appears to be the one being missed having taken the show to America and there are now plenty of rumours circulating about a potential return to the UK show in the next few weeks.

Cowell is said to be alarmed by the ratings drop for the UK show with phone votes also down massively from the same period last year and Paddy Power believe he could be ready to fly in to save the show in the next couple of weeks. It is thought that Cowell could make a guest appearance as a judge on the live shows in an effort to boost the ratings and he is as short as 1/3 with Paddy Power to do just that in the next few weeks. Cowell will no doubt think long and hard about returning to the show as it could be seen to undermine the current judging panel but he will be loathed to see ratings continue to suffer.

The X-Factor has started to slip behind BBC rival Strictly Come Dancing in the ratings war which has been unheard of in recent years and that may see the producers act with the current judging panel failing to prove a success. There is already talk about Louis Walsh getting the sack at the end of the series while Kelly Rowland and Tulisa have reportedly fallen out over the behaviour of one of the acts leaving the show in crisis. A massive mistake was made when they allowed Cheryl Cole to leave the show for the American version before she was promptly removed from that role, her popularity was massive and the X-Factor bosses will be ruing the day they let the Geordie star leave the panel.

X-Factor UK Betting Specials with Paddy Power

  • 1/3 – Simon Cowell to appear live during the 2011 series
  • 2/1 – Simon Cowell  NOT to appear live during the 2011 series
  • 3/1 – Cheryl Cole to replace Kelly Rowland as a judge during the 2011 series

Americain The Favourite For Second Successive Melbourne Cup Win

October 25, 2011

The Melbourne Cup is without doubt one the most important and prestigious flat races in the world and with the race at Flemington now on the horizon the betting is starting to hot up. We are seeing more and more European runners heading down under for a tilt at the big race and we have a French favourite at this stage with 2010 winner Americain heading back to Melbourne to defend the race he won so memorably 12 months ago. The Alain De Royer-Dupre horse came with a run last season which simply blew the field away at Flemington and he looks to be in tip top form as we head towards the 2011 renewal of the ‘Race That Stops A Nation’.

Americain had a prep race in Australia recently and he duly impressed onlookers by winning the Group 2 Drake International Cup in impressive fashion, that win saw his Melbourne Cup price slashed and Ladbrokes now make him a 7/2 shot to win the race for the second successive year. The last horse to win the race more than once was the great Makybe Diva who famously won the race three successive times in the early 2000′s, in fact she and four others are the only ones to have won the race more than once which highlights the task facing Americain this year.

Outside of the favourite there are a number of horses being backed including the exciting Dunaden who is another French trained contender heading to Melbourne at the start of November. He is trained by Mikel Delzangles and enhanced his reputation recently with an impressive weight carrying win in the Geelong Cup, he is now as short as the 7/1 second favourite with Ladbrokes to claim the glory at Flemington and looks a live threat. Americain has every right to be the favourite for the race but history suggests he is up against this time with plenty of other strong contenders ready to win one of the biggest races in the world. The threat from Europe is however looking particularly strong this season and it would be no surprise to see the prize pot heading to the northern hemisphere once again.

Latest Melbourne Cup 2011 Odds from Ladbrokes

  • 7/2 – Americain
  • 7/1 – Dunaden
  • 7/1 – Lucas Cranach
  • 10/1 – Jukebox Jury
  • 16/1 – Bauer
  • 16/1 – Illo
  • 16/1 – Midas Touch

David Beckham Next Club Betting With Paddy Power

October 24, 2011

The chase for David Beckham’s signature is hotting up nicely with a number of clubs in both America and Europe reportedly interested in the former England captain. Beckham’s contract with current club LA Galaxy runs out at the end of November and with the 36-year-old eager to represent Team GB at next summer’s Olympic Games a return to European football may be the way to go if he’s to catch the eye of manager Stuart Pearce.

With odds of 4/6 Paddy Power have installed French side Paris Saint Germain as the favourites in the betting. PSG haven’t been shy in expressing their interest in Becks and having already played in England, Spain and Italy, Beckham may opt to ply his trade in the French capital. ‘Golden Balls’ is priced at 5/4 to extend his stay with LA Galaxy and 40/1 to switch coasts and join Thierry Henry at New York Red Bulls.

London could be Beckham’s next destination with Tottenham priced at 10/1 to provide him with one last hurrah in the Premier League. QPR and West Ham are both available at 20/1 while Arsenal have been handed odds of 25/1. There has also been speculation that Beckham could re-unite with his former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson at Championship club Leicester City. Big things were expected of Eriksson’s men this season after the club splashed the cash in the summer transfer window, however, an inconsistent start has meant that the pre-season favourites are currently stuck in mid-table. Beckham could just be the boost they need to get their season back on track. 20/1.

Outside bets include former club Manchester United at 50/1 and big-spending Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala who are also priced at 50/1.

What club will David Beckham be signed to on February 1st 2012?

New Zealand The Hot Favourites For 2015 Rugby World Cup After 2011 Glory

October 24, 2011

The dust hasn’t even settled on the 2011 Rugby World Cup but already we are turning our attention to the 2015 tournament in four years time with New Zealand set to defend the trophy they won so memorably in Auckland. There is no doubt that the All Blacks were the best team during the 2011 Rugby World Cup and it is no surprise to see them at the top of the betting for the 2015 tournament which will be held in England with the final at Twickenham. New Zealand finally ended their World Cup hoodoo on home soil and the rugby mad country will be hoping they can continue their dominance in the build up to the next tournament, Paddy Power believe they will and the Irish bookmaker rates them as the clear favourites.

The All Blacks have developed a strength in depth which will stand them in good stead as they build towards 2015, star fly-half Dan carter missed most of the 2011 tournament with injury but he if can remain fit he will be the figurehead for them in 2015 which will be a massive boost. It will be a period of rebuilding for New Zealand with Head Coach Graham Henry leaving the role but even taking that into account they are as short as 7/5 with Paddy Power to claim a third World Cup win in 2015 and few would be surprised to see them do just that.

One country that is in need of rebuilding is England, they limply left the 2011 at the Quarter-Final stage in New Zealand but with a World Cup on home soil to look forward to they will be hoping to build towards 2015. There is plenty of young talent in the England squad with the likes of Manu Tulagi, Chris Ashton and Ben Foden all expected to be at their peak in four years which does offer their fans some comfort after a poor 2011 Rugby World Cup tournament. Home advantage should not be ignored though and that explains their current price of 11/2 with Paddy Power to win the World Cup in 2015, that may seem a long way off for England but the RFU will be desperate to put on a good show on home soil and will be aiming high.

Rugby World cup 2015 Odds with Paddy Power

  • 7/5 – New Zealand
  • 5/1 – Australia
  • 11/2 – England
  • 6/1 – South Africa
  • 9/1 – France
  • 9/1 – Wales
  • 20/1 – Ireland

Andy Murray One To Watch In ATP World Tour Finals Betting

October 21, 2011

ATP World Tour Finals – 20-27th November 2011

The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is the last major tournament of the calendar year where the best eight players of 2011 meet in the unofficial ‘F’ifth Grand Slam’ to see who can end the season on the ultimate high. Five places have already been decided – Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Roger Federer and David Ferrer – meaning there are now three remaining spots, with the likes of Tomas Berdych, Mardy Fish, Jo Wilfred Tsonga and Juan Martin Del Potro all still in contention.

As has been the case all year Novak Djokovic is the man to beat. The Serb has been in scintillating form with three Grand Slam trophies to his name as well as a number of other titles. Sky Bet have Djokovic as the 6/4 favourite in the betting odds and if fully fit it would come as no surprise to see him lift the title later next month. Andy Murray has saved his best performances till last and will be brimming with confidence following his hat-trick of titles in the past few weeks. Priced at 3/1 Murray has a very good chance of winning in London and his prospects will no doubt be boosted on home soil in front of a vociferous crowd.

Roger Federer has gone off the radar slightly in recent months and is without a Grand Slam title since the 2010 Australian Open. The World No. 4 may be on the decline but he is more than capable of winning in London next month, just as he did last year when he beat Nadal in a thrilling final. Like every player, Nadal has been in the shadow of Djokovic this year but yet he still has a Grand Slam to his name plus two runners-up finishes at Wimbledon and the US Open. Both Federer and Nadal are available at 7/2 to come out victorious in November. Elsewhere the Spaniard David Ferrer has enjoyed an impressive year and he could be a good outside bet at 20/1.

ATP World Tour Finals Outright Winner Odds

  • 6/4 – Novak Djokovic
  • 3/1 – Andy Murray
  • 7/2 – Rafa Nadal
  • 7/2 – Roger Federer
  • 16/1 – Tomas Berdych
  • 20/1 – David Ferrer
  • 20/1 – Mardy Fish
  • 20/1 – Jo Wilfired Tsonga
  • 40/1 – Juan Martin Del Potro
  • 80/1 – Gilles Simon
  • 100/1 – Robin Soderling
