French Open Betting Specials – Nadal Favourite To Win

May 20, 2011

The 2011 French Open catapults into life on Sunday 22nd May as the best players in the world compete for the chance to be crowned the King of Clay. The bookmakers Coral have some fantastic specials to wet your appetite ahead of the second Grand Slam of the year.

After a sensation run of form Novak Djokovic has had his odds slashed to just 6/5, yet he still finds himself behind the 11/10 heavy favourite Rafael Nadal, a five-time winner at Roland Garros. With both men on fine form, and with Andy Murray showing huge signs of progress on the surface and Roger Federer always a threat, you can place a bet with Coral that the top 4 men’s seeds will all progress through to the semi-finals at a tempting 5/1.

Nadal and Djokovic have clashed in the final of the two recent ATP Masters Series tour events (Madrid and Rome) in the build up to the French Open, with Djokovic surprisingly coming out on top in both encounters. It would come as no surprise if both men were to meet again in the final at Roland Garros, but the real question is whether either tennis superstar can win the Grand Slam without dropping a set. Nadal is available at 6/1 to achieve this feat whilst Djokovic is priced at 7/1.

At 14/1 to win the tournament Andy Murray well may be worth a punt. The Scot has recently put his miserable run of form since the Australian Open behind him by reaching the semi-finals in both Monte Carlo and Rome. The determined 24-year-old is a confident mood ahead of the French Open and has been handed a relatively easy draw that will more than boost his chances of success. Despite his slight dip in form Roger Federer too is most certainly worth a gamble at 14/1.

Elsewhere David Ferrer, who was runner-up to Rafael Nadal in both Monte Carlo and Barcelona is good value at 33/1, whilst Juan Martin Del Potro is 25/1 and Robin Söderling 40/1.

French Open Men’s Outright Odds

  • Rafael Nadal – 11/10
  • Novak Djokovic – 6/5
  • Andy Murray – 14/1
  • Roger Federer – 14/1
  • Juan Martin Del Potro – 25/1
  • David Ferrer – 33/1
  • Robin Söderling – 40/1
  • Thomaz Bellucci – 66/1
  • Fernando Verdasco – 80/1
  • Nicolas Almagro – 80/1
  • Richard Gasquet – 80/1
  • Tomas Berdych – 100/1

May 20, 2011

Its been a busy couple of weeks over in Ireland with the Queen making her fist official visit to the country this week before US President Barack Obama arrives in the country on Monday, it will be the first time he has visited the Emerald Isle since taking office and it promises to be a historic event. The Queen has dominated the headlines in Ireland this week and Obama will no doubt do the same when he arrives on Monday and as would be expected Paddy Power have been quick off the mark to offer some nice markets ahead of the visit.

The main market for the visit of Obama to Ireland is where he will visit first when he arrives in the country and all the indications are that he will head to Aras an Uachtarain to visit the President. Paddy Power are offering a short looking 1/8 that he will arrive in Dublin and head straight to the official residence of the President which looks like the obvious choice. Other contenders include Trinity College which is always a popular destination for visitors to the country and the popular Guinness Factory which can be backed at 16/1 also with Paddy Power.

As well as visiting Dublin, Obama will also head to Moneygall to visit his Ancestral homestead and punters can have a go at picking which pub he will visit for a pint of Guinness in the area. The hot favourite is Ollie Hayes which is as short as 1/20 while Joe Hayes is the outsider at 7/1 with Paddy Power to be the venue for the all important pint of Guinness picture in Moneygall on Tuesday.

Cardiff And Swansea Favourites To Reach Play-off Final

May 16, 2011

Welsh rivals Cardiff and Swansea are the bookies favourites to meet at Wembley Stadium on Monday 30th May in the £90million showdown. Both of the first- leg Championship play-off games ended in goalless draws last week meaning the home sides have the advantage going into the second-leg this week.

Swansea host Nottingham Forest at the Liberty Stadium at 7.45pm on Monday 16th May. After a heroic performance in Nottingham where they came away with a creditable 0-0 draw after playing virtually the whole match with ten men, Swansea head into tonight’s match as 20/21 favourites to win with Stan James. Swansea have only lost two games at home this season and look the favourites to progress to the final.

In the other play-off second-leg match Cardiff take on Reading at the Cardiff City Stadium at 7.45pm on Tuesday 17th May. Similarly to the other play-off first-leg, the two sides played out a goalless draw. Tuesday’s game will no doubt be another nerve-wracking encounter as the teams battle it out for a place in the play-off final. Cardiff have an incredible record against Reading having lost none of the last eight matches between the two sides, and with home advantage they head into the game as 5/4 favourites to win. However, the Bluebirds may have to do without striker Craig Bellamy, who is a doubt with a hamstring injury.

James Degale Odds On To Beat George Groves In Latest Betting

May 16, 2011

This weekend sees one of the most eagerly anticipated domestic boxing bouts in living memory take place with fierce rivals James Degale and George Groves doing battle at the O2 Arena on a great night of boxing. The two British Super-Middleweights have been trading verbal insults since they were in short trousers and with both fighters unbeaten in the Pro ranks this is a potentially massive clash for both men. The rivalry stems back many years when both were part of the same amateur gym in London and vying to be the best, they have both been fighting for that right ever since with the bout on Saturday finally set to settle that score.

There is no doubting that James Degale is the favourite to win the clash with an Olympic Gold Medal already in his cabinet as well as being the current British Super-Middleweight Champion having defeated Paul Smith in style last year. Degale looks to have the more experience and faster hands and that is reflected in his current price of 1/4 with Bet365 to win the fight. Groves though is also a class act under the tutelage of Adam Booth and although he has been less impressive than Degale as a pro so far he remains unbeaten and does have an amateur victory over Degale on his CV making him a dangerous opponent. Groves is the Commonwealth Champion and although he is the underdog he is not without a chance and can be backed a long looking 11/4 with Bet365.com to win on Saturday night.

Degale was hugely impressive against Paul Smith last December to win the British Title and many believe he could be the next big British Boxing star on the world stage, he has blurring hand speed to go with some heavy hands and he will be hoping that gives him the edge against Groves. Degale is likely to be strong for Groves with a late stoppage likely to be where the value is for punters having a bet, the Olympic Champion can be backed at a nice looking 14/1 with Bet365 to stop his rival in Round 9 and that could be cracking value. In truth the fight promises to be an absolute classic with the winner likely to be heading towards a world title fight in the near future as well as picking up the all important bragging rights between the pair.

James Degale v George Groves Betting with Bet365

  • 1/4 – James Degale

Massive Gamble On Jedward In Eurovision Song Contest Betting

May 13, 2011

Saturday sees the Eurovision Song Contest Final take place in Germany and all the talk is about the Irish entry as those annoying twins Jedward take to the stage to sing their song Lipstick after qualifying from their Semi-Final. It seemed to start off as something of a joke with Jedward winning the right to sing for Ireland in Dusseldorf earlier in the year but it is getting serious now with a number of bookmakers reporting massive gambles on the twins. One bookmaker who will be sweating on Saturday night will be Boylesports who are set for a 1million Euro payout should John and Edward some how win the competition.

It was only a few days ago that the bookmakers were giving no chance to Jedward but they are attracting more and more support both at home and abroad and can now be backed at a short looking price of just 7/2, with Boylesports seemingly running scared. Jedward of course shot to fame on X Factor in the UK and they will be hoping their unique brand of entertainment will see them pick up enough votes to win for Ireland who have a long history of Eurovision success.

Jedward will be relying on their young British fans to vote for them on Saturday night if they are to have any chance, while the UK entrant Blue will be hoping their Irish fans will return the favour as they fight against the traditional Eastern European block voting. Boy band Blue are making a comeback for the Eurovision Song contest this year and many believe their song I Can will perform well, Boylesports have priced the UK and Blue at 12/1 to win the competition and restore the reputation of the UK in the Eurovision Song contest. Blue will be hoping their young female fans remember them and pick up the phone although they will need plenty of that with countries like Azerbaijan, Bosnia and France all expected to fare well this year.

Djokovic 12/1 to Win Every Grand Slam

May 13, 2011

Paddy Power are offering intriguing odds of 12/1 for Novak Djokovic to win all four Grand Slams in 2011. The Serbian superstar has been in sensational form so far this year, and with the Australian Open already under his belt, who says he can’t complete the clean sweep.

At the time of writing the 23-year-old remains undefeated in 2011. His incredible winning streak dates back to the previous year, in which he ended on a high having lead Serbia to their first ever Davis Cup title after beating France 3-2 in a thrilling final. Djokovic has since won the Australian Open, three ATP Masters titles in Indian Wells, Miami and Madrid, as well as tournaments in Dubai and Belgrade. Djokovic is currently looking good in the Rome Masters – an event he won three years ago – and is due to face Robin Soderling in the quarter-finals. His 6-4 6-1 demolition of Stanislas Wawrinka in the previous round takes his 2011 winning tally to 34, only eight wins away from equalling John McEnroe’s 42-0 start in 1984.

Djokovic seems to have overcome a major mental barrier concerning Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer and now goes into every match against the two tennis greats with buckets of confidence, whereas before he perhaps lacked the belief that he was really going to win. The next Grand Slam on the tennis calender is the French Open, which begins on 22nd May, and Paddy Power have Djokovic at 12/5 to win.

Carlton House The Epsom Derby Favourite For The Queen

May 13, 2011

The Dante Stakes has produced the winner of the Derby no less than four times in the last seven years making it then premier trial for the Epsom Classic, that stat alone makes it easy to understand why punters are getting excited about Carlton House who won the York race in some style recently. The Dante was billed as the big Derby trial with Carlton House, Seville and World Domination taking each other with both bookies and punters watching closely for clues, and it was the Sir Michael Stoute trained Carlton House who proved he was the class act winning going away from Seville.

What makes Carlton House all the more interesting is the fact that he carries the Royal colours and will be bidding to give Her Majesty The Queen her first ever Epsom Derby winner, that coupled with his impressive run at York mean he is now as short as 7/4 favourite with VC Bet. That looks short enough at the moment for a race like the Derby but many are predicting a massive gamble on Carlton House on the day of the race, with one or two even suggesting there is a chance he could go off an odds on shot by the time the stalls fly open on June 4th.

There is no doubt that it was an impressive run from Carlton House in the Dante but he could face a tough re match at Epsom against Seville who was not far behind him at York.  The Aidan O’Brien team were happy with his run and expect him to improve for a quicker early pace which is likely to be the case in the Derby, with that in mind Seville can be backed at 7/1 with VC Bet.com to win the Derby. Balllydoyle always have a strong hand in the Classics and in Seville and Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial winner Recital they look to have a nice chance at Epsom with many struggling to split the pair at this stage.

FA Cup Final Money-Back Specials: Man City v Stoke City

May 12, 2011

Manchester City and Stoke City go head-to-head at 3pm on Saturday 14th May in the 2011 FA Cup Final. While Man City are aiming to kick-start a revolution at the club with their first trophy of the Abu-Dhabi era, Stoke will be gunning for glory in their first ever FA Cup Final appearance. To celebrate the occasion Paddy Power will refund all losing 4 folds and upwards bets if your bet is winning at half time but not at full time.

The teams met last season in the historic competition, and after a marathon two matches, Stoke managed to beat Man City 3-1 in extra time in the fifth-round replay. City are without a win in the FA Cup since 1976, and the club hope a win at Wembley will mark the foundation for future success. City will be in confident mood following their 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, which guaranteed their entry into next season’s lucrative Champions League. City’s qualification means that win or lose Stoke too will enjoy European football next season in the form of the Europa League, which is massive for a club that only gained promotion to the Premier League in  2008.

Carlos Tevez is expected to have recovered from a hamstring injury in time for what could be one of his last ever games for the club, following speculation that he will move away from Eastlands this summer. Paddy Power have the Argentine at 4/1 to score the opening goal of the game, with  fellow forwards Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko both priced at 9/5 to score at any point during the 90 minutes. Stoke will rely heavily on Kenwyne Jones and Jonathan Walters for goals, and Paddy Power have the strikers at 8/1 and 9/1 respectively to open the scoring. Walters, who scored two against his former club Bolton in the semi-finals, is available at 40/1 to grab a brace (in 90 minutes) in the final.

Man City start the game as clear favourites to win outright at 1/3, but they know that Stoke will be no pushovers and therefor a close game is predicted. City look good value at 9/1 with Paddy Power to win 2-1 in 90 minutes. However, the clubs have remarkably drawn 1-1 (in 90 minutes) in their last four games making it highly possible that the match on Saturday goes into extra-time. Should this scenario occur Man City are 13/2 to win in extra time.

Swansea Slight Favourites In Championship Play-Off Betting

May 11, 2011

Nottingham Forest face Swansea at the City Ground at 7.45pm on Thursday 12th May and a day later Reading host Cardiff at the Madejski Stadium at 7.45pm Friday 13th May in the first-leg semi-finals of the Championship play-offs. Place a bet on one of those teams to be promoted through the play-offs and if they are knocked out via penalties, Victor Chandler will refund your losing stake as a free bet.

Nottingham Forest are back in the play-offs after finishing in 6th spot with 75 points. This is familiar territory for the club, having been in the same position last year, where they were beaten twice by Blackpool. Forest have a decent home record this season and will be confident of going into the second-leg in a good position, especially after recording a 3-1 victory against Swansea at the City Ground earlier this season. Swansea have had a cracking season, but will nonetheless feel disappointed at finishing 3rd, just four points behind automatically promoted Norwich. If Swansea can snatch a draw they will be confident of progressing through to the final.

Reading are arguably the play-offs most in-from team after putting together a scintillating run of eight straight league wins from late February to late April, and five points from their last four games was enough to ensure 5th position and a play-off place. Cardiff have been in contention for an automatic play-off place all season, and like their fierce rivals Swansea, will be disappointed at missing out. Cardiff have been stuck in the Championship since 2003, and after many near misses, they will feel that this year is as good as any to finaly make the step up to the big time.

Victor Chandler have Swansea as the favourites to reach the Premier League at 9/4, while Reading and Cardiff are 13/5 to go up and Nottingham Forest are priced at 3/1.

Bosnia The Ones To Watch In Second Eurovision Semi-Final Betting

May 11, 2011

On Thursday night the second Eurovision Semi-Final takes place in Dusseldorf as excitement builds towards the big final on Saturday night. According to the latest betting with Boylesports for the second Semi-Final it is Bosnia who are the ones to watch and they can be backed at a price of 11/4 to claim the top spot and progress through to the big final. Bosnia are not know for their musical prowess but hopes are high that Dino Merlin and his song Love In Rewind will put up a good show both in the Semi-Final and in the Final itself at the weekend.

Perhaps the most interesting entrant in the second Semi-Final is that of Ireland who will be relying on the much maligned Jedward to sing them to success on Thursday night. The two Irish brothers shot to fame on X-Factor in the UK for their less than impressive singing talent but they are looking to continue the rich Eurovision tradition on Ireland with their song Lipstick. Any punters wanting to back an unlikely Jedward win on Thursday night can get 9/2 with Boylesports while they are a short looking 6/1 to win the Final itself on Saturday night.

The nation to beat on Saturday night will be French who believe they have the winning entry with Amaury Vassili and his song Sognu currently heads the betting. Punters wanting to back the French to win on Saturday can get a short looking price of 6/4 with Boylesports which in truth looks a little skinny for a competition which is notorious for its block voting in Eastern Europe.
