England Facing Tough Cricket World Cup Task Against Sri Lanka
March 25, 2011
England have been the stars of the Cricket World Cup so far with every match they have played going down to the wire, punters will remember they are the team that have already lost to minnows Ireland and Bangladesh as well as beating tournament favourites South Africa. With that in mind this weekends Quarter Final against Sri Lanka could well be another nail biter and Stan James are offering up some fascinating special markets for the match in Colombo with Andrew Strauss and his men facing an uphill task according to the latest betting.
Sri Lanka are as short as 1/2 to win with Stan James but there is some good value for punters in some more exciting betting markets. Jonathan Trott and Kumar Sangakarra have been in the runs all tournament and both are still in with a shout of claiming the top run scorer crown, and Stan James are offering a match bet between the two for the match on Saturday. Trott and Sangakarra can each be backed at 5/6 with Stan James and that is based on which of the two will score more runs in the match, Sangakarra has to be the more likely in this one with home crowd on his back.
Stan James also offer a fantastic Best Economy Market with punters looking to find the bowler who will concede the fewest runs, and there is no surprise to see the great Muttiah Muralitharan at the end of this one and he is priced at 7/2. The England alternative to Murali is of course Graeme Swann and he tends to keep things tight during his ten overs, making his price of 4/1 to be the most economical bowler an attractive one for punters.
England v Sri Lanka Match Odds with Stan James
Sri Lanka v England Best Economy Odds
- 7/2 – Muttiah Muralitharan
- 4/1 – Graeme Swann
- 4/1 – Lasith Malinga
- 9/2 – Nuwan Kulasekera
- 9/2 – Tim Bresnan
- 9/2 – James Tredwell

Twice Over can land 2011 Dubai World Cup
March 25, 2011
With a couple of really competitive National Hunt meetings at Stratford and Newbury and two AW meetings at Kempton and Lingfield, racing fans will have plenty of options this weekend. However the feature meeting is without doubt the Dubai World Cup at Meydan, which will see the Henry Cecil trained multiple group one winner, Twice Over make his attempt to win the world’s richest horse race. The card at Meydan is a cracker and will feature plenty of British and Irish interest, including a few rare Dubai entries from the Aidan O’Brien stable.
Meydan 1.15 – Al Quoz Sprint 5f
The meeting gets underway with a Group two sprint which should see the warm order favourite JJ The Jet Plane take the top prize. The seven year old looked back to his best a fortnight ago when winning the Finest Surprise Handicap over six furlongs on the turf on this track. Although his best performances have come over six furlongs, the five furlongs in this should not trouble him. Each way interests could be applied to both Inxile from the Dandy Nicholls yard and Triple Aspect who is trained by William Haggas and will be the mount of Ryan Moore.
Selection: JJ The Jet Plane @ 2/1 with Paddy Power or Ladbrokes
Meydan 1.50 – Godolphin Mile 1m
This could be a very competitive Group Two where the Barry Hills trained Red Jazz will likely go off as the favourite. He is the highest rated horse in the race but he has not won over this trip in the past, nor has he been on a Tapeta surface. One who has however is the Godolphin trained Skysurfers, who won over course and trip a month ago when taking the Listed Firebreak Stakes. That run will have put him spot on as Godolphin look to claim the race named after them.
Selection: Skysurfers @ 5/1 with Victor Chandler
Meydan 2.25 – UAE Derby 1m 1f
The third Group Two of the afternoon should see the Godolphin pair of Khawlah and Xin Xu Lin go off as the top two in the market, however this is a very open looking race, where strong challenges can be expected from the Mike De Kock trained Mahbooba, winner of the UAE 1000 Guineas a few weeks ago and who finished second behind Khawlah in the UAE Oaks on 24th February. There is also two entries from Ballydoyle, Alexander Pope and Master Of Hounds, the latter being the highest rated horse in the race.
Selection: Khawlah @ 4/1 with Bet365
Meydan 3.05 – Golden Shaheen 6f
The first Group One race of the afternoon should produce a cracking contest and which could see Kinsale King take the race for the second successive year for Carl O’Callaghan. However the favourite will be Rocket Man, who was second behind Kinsale King 12 months ago and who has never finished outside of the first two in any of his 17 starts.
Selection: Rocket Man @ 7/4 with Coral
Meydan 3.45 – The Dubai Duty Free 1m1f
With Wigmore Hall representing the Michael Bell stable and Presvis trained by Luca Cumani looking likely to dispute favouritism, this Group One could be a very close affair, particularly as there are several others all in with big chances. Mendip from the Saeed Bin Suroor stable has won twice at Group Three level during the 2011 Dubai Carnival and is in top form, whilst Bankable won a Group Three over six furlongs as a warm up for his attempt to claim this race after finishing second last year.
Selection: Mendip @ 8/1 with Boylesports of Victor Chandler
Meydan 4.50 – Sheema Classic 1m4f
The penultimate race of the afternoon could see the 2010 Epsom Derby third, Rewilding, claim his biggest prize to date. Trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni for Godolphin, this four year old is certainly one of major the class horse’s in the race and will go off favourite, but punters should follow the market with regard to the support for the Japanese entry, Rulership, a Group Two winner in Japan and the Brian Meehan trained Dangerous Midge, winner of the Breeders Cup Turf back in November. There has also been market support for the Barry Hills trained Redwood.
Selection: Dangerous Midge @ 5/1 with Bet365 or Paddy Power
Meydan 5.35 – Dubai World Cup
The richest race in the world should see a huge effort by the Henry Cecil trained Twice Over to take the race and justify the place at the top of the Dubai World Cup odds and in doing so, get the Cecil yard off to the perfect start as the new flat season looms. Winner of the Round 3 of the Al Maktoum Challenge a couple of weeks ago, the 6 year old is said to be in top form and raring to go. He has been heavily backed and is now as short as 5/2 and will go off as a very warm order favourite. There has also been support for the Aidan ‘Brien trained Cape Blanco, winner of the 2010 Irish Derby, but who has only just arrived in Dubai and who has not been seen on track since finishing down the field in the 2010 Arc de Triomphe. Big runs can also be expected from Gio Ponti, Poets Voice and the Japanese entry Victoire Pisa.
Selection: Twice Over @ 11/4 with Coral
Is Charlie Sheen About To Move Into The Playboy Mansion?
March 24, 2011
One man has dominated the showbiz headlines over the past few months and that is Charlie Sheen who appears to be lurching from one crisis to another at the moment, but that has not stopped Paddy Power offering some nice specials about the future of this unpredictable star. Sheen has recently been sacked from his hit sitcom Two and Half Men and after a series of rambling interviews and his next career move will be an interesting one, he appears to be struggling with addiction at the moment but we have seen many stars come back from worse than this.
Punters wanting to get involved with some Paddy Power specials can a get a price of 50/1 that Charlie Sheen will turn his career round and pick up an Oscar by 2015, he is clearly a talented actor but at the moment he seems a log way away from the Academy Awards. Perhaps a more realistic bet would be the 10/1 on offer from Paddy Power about Sheen picking up a Golden Globe, which although is still prestigious is a notch below the holy grail of an Oscar.
Sheen is also well known for his turbulent love life having a number of famous break-ups on his record and with that in mind punters can have a short looking price of 3/1 with Paddy Power.com about his next wife being a Playboy Centrefold, while how about the price of just 20/1 that Sheen will take the decision to move into the Playboy Mansion on a full-time basis!
Charlie Sheen Specials with Paddy Power
- 3/1 – Charlie Sheen to marry a Playboy Centrefold next
- 8/1 – Charlie Sheen to win a Screen Actors Guild Award by 2015

18/1 Terry to score first against Wales
March 24, 2011
The England captaincy saga has dominated the build-up to England’s Euro 2012 clash with Wales at the Millenium Stadium this Saturday. What better way for John Terry to quieten his critics then to get England off to the perfect start? Totesport have the new England captain at 18/1 to score first.
With three games played England find themselves second in Group G behind leaders Montenegro. The Three Lions will be going all out for a win in order to return to the top of the table but will be more than wary of the attacking threat posed by Wales. England are firm favourites to beat the Welsh in Cardiff at 4/9, while Wales have long odds of 6/1. A draw between the two neighbours is 3/1.
Wales v England Totesport specials:
- 66/1 – John Terry to score and England to win 1-0.
- 25/1 – Andy Carroll to score a hat-trick.
- 12/1 – Wayne Rooney to score and England to win 2-0.
BBC considering cutting major sports events
March 24, 2011
The BBC is believed to be considering axing its coverage of a number of major sports events in order to save costs.
Amongst those in the firing line are Wimbledon, Formula One and the Grand National.
Boylesports are offering odds of 6/1 that Wimbledon will be the first to go, with both Formula One and Carling Cup coverage at 5/2 to be dropped. Meanwhile it is 12/1 that the Grand National disappears first. Football programmes such as Match of the Day and the Football League show are also under threat.
The BBC are also contemplating other money-saving options such as stopping broadcasting after the BBC News at Ten, and Boylesports go 5/1 for this to happen in 2011. This could pose serious problems for popular shows, with odds of 13/8 that Film 2011 finishes this year, 15/8 for the Graham Norton Show and 20/1 for Match of the Day to end before 2012.
Which of the following sports programmes will be first to be dropped by the BBC? Courtesy of the bookmakers Boylesports.
- 5/2 Carling Cup
- 5/2 Formula One
- 7/2 Football League
- 4/1 Match of the Day
- 6/1 Wimbledon
- 12/1 Grand National
- 12/1 World Cup
- 12/1 European Championships
