Wigan leading Premier League relegation odds
February 28, 2011
It is all change at the bottom end of the Premier League as teams down there battle for their survival and try to avoid being relegated down to the Npower Championship.
For several weeks it looked as if Avram Grant’s West Ham side were destined to stay holding up the rest of the league deeply rooted in 20th place but following their relegation match against West Brom and the amazing 3-1 win over Liverpool at the weekend his side have now moved to 18th and are only kept there by goal difference.
Another team that is on the move is Wolves who under Mick McCarthy have managed to jump out of the relegation zone after their 4-0 thrashing of Blackpool and a valuable draw also against West Brom. In moving up they have helped push West Brom into the relegation fight.
West Brom are the only team that were promoted from the Championship last season that are in immediate danger of going back to where they came from. The other promoted teams from last season, Newcastle and Blackpool have both exceeded the expectations that most football pundits had of them with Newcastle looking to cement themselves in the top half of the table and Ian Holloway’s Blackpool side looking as if they will be safe to claim a second year in the Premier League.
Of all the teams at the wrong end of the table Wigan Athletic now look to be in the most trouble after recording back to back losses against Bolton and Manchester United they next face Manchester City which will be a crucial game for manager Roberto Martinez who is one of the most likely candidates to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked at odds of around 7/1.
