Gareth Bale favourite for the 2010/11 PFA Player of the Year award

January 20, 2011

Every year all members of the PFA (Professional Footballers’ Association) are given two votes on who they believe should be the Player of the Year, an official shortlist is produced in April with the winner announced at an awards ceremony a few days later. Paddy Power have released their list of the players that they believe will make up the shortlist of nominees for the 2010/11 award.

Top of their list is the Spurs player Gareth Bale who has a fantastic season both in the Premier League and particularly in the Champions League. During the Spurs v Inter Milan in October the winger scored a hat trick in the game that Spurs lost 4-3 but were losing 4-0 before Bale’s flurry of goals.

Last year Wayne Rooney managed to fend off competition from Didier Drogba, Carlos Tevez to be voted the 2009/10 PFA Player of the Year after a fantastic season where he scored 34 goals out of 44 appearances for United. However after a poor World Cup his return to the Premier League was delay with an ankle injury and so far this season he has been less than illuminating, after just 15 appearances so far this season he has only hit the back of the net on 3 occasions which has seen his odds of being nominated for Player of the Year going to odds of 25/1, with Berbatov now being the primary scorer with the side with 15 goals his odds are down to just 9/1.
