Can Arsenal claim the top spot after the Premier League games this weekend?

December 30, 2010

Christmas has proved to be an explosive time for teams in the Barclays Premier League; Burnley have parted ways with manager Brian Laws, Chelsea’s losing streak continues and bottom club Wolves beat Liverpool for the first time in 27 years to give more stress to Roy Hodgson.

Meanwhile Arsenal have stated to claw their way back up the table, first by beating Chelsea 3-1 on Monday but then only then to draw against 10 man Wigan on Wednesday. However a win at the weekend against Alex McLeish’s Birmingham team could help to catapult Arsene Wenger’s side back up to the top spot of the league. A lot however will depend on how Manchester United do against West Brom (United are currently at odds of 8/15 to win away).

Ashes fourth test betting specials from Boylesports

December 23, 2010

The fourth Test of the 2010/11 Ashes series is upon us and Andrew Strauss’s England side will be hoping that Mitchell Johnson has finished with his purple patch that saw his man of the match performance ruin the third test for England at Perth. If he can overdo it on the turkey and mince pies then maybe England will have a chance when then next begins in Melbourne on Boxing Day.

His excellent spell of fast bowling at the last test have made bookmakers Boylesports give him odds of 7/4 to be the top wicket taker for Aussies.

Australia’s top wicket taker in Melbourne

  • 7/4 – Mitchell Johnson
  • 5/2 – Ryan Harris
  • 3/1 – Ben Hilfenhaus
  • 4/1 – Peter Siddle

England’s Grame Swann will be looking to improve his form at the MCG at Melbourne after only taking two wickets at the last test at the Waca and he is currently being quoted at odds of 5/6 to take less than five wickets during the fourth test.

Fourth Test Specials

  • 3/1 – Any player to take a match ten wicket haul
  • 6/1 – Australia to win by more than an innings

Can Arsenal or Chelsea catch up with Manchester United in the Premier League table?

December 22, 2010

The last match for both teams saw the terrible British weather being the only winner, when it forced the Arsenal v Stoke and Chelsea v Manchester United Premier Leagues games (amongst others) to be cancelled. Hopefully by Sunday the weather will have sorted itself out and it will let the busy Christmas fixture list go ahead. The only team in the top four to get a game in the last week was Chelsea and they failed to capitalise on the cancelled matches and lost at home to the mighty Everton (who are currently 14th in the table).

Both managers will be desperate for a win as Manchester United are still a game in hand and top of the Premier League table, failure to claim all of the 3 points available will mean that they will have to wait for Sir Alex’s side to make a slip up.

Arsenal v Chelsea match odds

All odds are supplied courtesy of bookmakers Paddy Power

  • 8/5 – Arsenal win
  • 7/4 – Chelsea win
  • 9/4 – Draw

As part of their ongoing commitment to make life fun the bookies Paddy Power are offering punters a cash back opportunity on this game. If the game ends in a draw with goals scored (commonly known as a score draw) then Paddypower will then refund all of the losing first and last goal scorer bets as well as losing bets on the correct score and scorecast singles market.

Eastenders Star Heads Dancing On Ice Betting

December 21, 2010

Eastenders actor Sam Attwater is the early favourite for the ITV celebrity ice skating reality show Dancing On Ice with StanJames.com. The Eastender’s heart-throb is an 11/4-shot with the firm, who must be bearing in mind that his former Eastenders’ colleague Kara Tointon recently won Strictly Come Dancing.

Dancing On Ice, which is due to begin on Saturday 9th January, will feature 16 celebrities who possess varying degrees of fame. Ex-I’m A Celebrity winner and former face of Iceland frozen food Kerry Katona is among those taking part, as is former news reader Angela Rippon, and perhaps most bizarrely 1990’s rap star Vanilla Ice.

Vanilla Ice should be familiar to viewers of British reality TV shows, he joined X Factor contestants Jedward with their first single and he starred in The Farm back in 2004 when former football bad-boy Stan Collymore asked him outside for a fist fight. Vanilla Ice declined the offer, and he will presumably be hoping the likes of pint-sized TV presenter Jeff Brazier won’t be so aggressive towards him while he takes part in Dancing On Ice. StanJames.com make Vanilla Ice one of their outsiders for Dancing On Ice at odds of 33/1.

Other interesting names among the list of contestants are those of David Vitty, otherwise known as ‘Comedy Dave’ on the Radio 1 breakfast show, and Steven Arnold, who played Ashley Peacock in Coronation Street until the life of the character came to a dramatic end in the soap’s 50th Birthday multiple death extravaganza a couple of weeks ago.

Dancing On Ice odds – courtesy of StanJames.com

  • 11/4 – Sam Attwater
  • 5/1 – Laura Hamilton
  • 13/2 – Jennifer Metcalfe
  • 8/1 – Jeff Brazier
  • 10/1 – Johnson Beharry VC
  • 11/1 – Kerry Katona
  • 16/1 – Chloe Madeley
  • 16/1 – Elen Rivas
  • 16/1 – Nadia Sawalha
  • 20/1 – Comedy Dave
  • 20/1 – Steven Arnold
  • 20/1 – Dominic Cork
  • 25/1 – Craig McLachlan
  • 25/1 – Denise Welch
  • 25/1 – Angela Rippon
  • 40/1 – Vanilla Ice

Will the snow cancel boxing day racing at Kempton?

December 21, 2010

It is not just holidays that have been ruined with the airports and road networks succumbing to the snow, more importantly it has been disrupting and playing havoc with the racing calendar, this week we have seen several cancellations of race meetings and it looks like it is set to continue.

However today’s racing at Kempton Racecourse (Tuesday) has been confirmed as going ahead but the course will be taking it day by day to see whether the King George card will be able to take place on Boxing Day.

Temperature around the racecourse have been hovering around freezing for most of the week and the Met Office have confirmed that this weather is likely to continue with some snow expected to land on Wednesday and Thursday but the temperature could rise to be as high as 4c, but this may be too little too late.

Will Racing take place at Kempton on Boxing Day

All odds for this market come courtesy of bookmakers Stan James. One complete race needs to be settled for the market to be settled as yes, the yes market has come from odds of 5/6.

Can Manchester City go top of the Premier League tonight?

December 20, 2010

As long as the weather does not deteriorate any more, then the Premier League match tonight between Manchester City and Everton will be allowed to go ahead and it will not become another casualty of the cold weather that is ruining sporting events up and down the country.

The match will be a tough test for Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini as this time last year City replaced their last manager, currently he is at odd of 10/1 to be the next manager to join the Premier League sackrace.

Mancini has removed the captaincy from Carlos Tevez following his very public transfer request last week but he is still scheduled to take part in the game. A win for City at Eastlands tonight could see them leapfrog Arsenal and Manchester United to take the top spot of the Premier League although they will have played two more games than Sir Alex’s side.

Manchester City vs Everton match odds

  • 4/5 – Manchester City win
  • 4/1 – Everton win
  • 13/5 – Draw

As part of their advent calendar offers the bookmakers Victor Chandler are giving punters the chance to earn a free bet if your bet loses. If you place a bet on the next live goal scorer market for this game and there are more than 3 goals scored then Victor Chandler will refund losing bets back into your account as a free bet. This offer is only applicable for in play bets made up to half time and a maximum free bet of £25, but check the VC bet for the full terms and conditions.

Ancelotti hoping that Chelsea can return to winning ways when they face United at the weekend

December 17, 2010

Alex Ferguson will be looking to further increase his teams lead over Chelsea when they travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday (weather of course permitting) for their next Barclays Premier League match. They have managed to leapfrog Chelsea in the table and claim the top spot from Arsenal thanks to their unbeaten run of 16 league games, but worryingly for Sir Alex they have only managed to win once out of seven away trips.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea side have now slipped down to fourth in the table and have only managed to claim six points in the last 7 games, but in their favour will be the fact that Manchester United have not managed to win in their last 9 visits to Stamford Bridge in all competitions. They will also be welcoming back Frank Lampard for his first start since August and manager Ancelotti will be hoping this will be enough to inspire a win and keep his job safe until at least after Christmas, he is currently being quoted at odds of 8/1 to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

Chelsea v Man Utd match odds

  • 6/5 – Chelsea win
  • 9/4 – Draw
  • 12/5 – Manchester United win

As part of their Christmas Cheers there is a cash back offer available on this game. If you place a bet on this match on any of the following markets; first or last goal scorer, correct score and score cast singles and the game ends in a score draw then bookmakers Paddy Power will refund all of the losing bets back into your account.

Can FC Utrech restore some pride against Liverpool tonight?

December 15, 2010

Liverpool are the Europa Group K table leaders Liverpool and tonight they welcome the Dutch side FC Utrecht to Anfield. As the runaway leaders of the group Liverpool are already through to the next stage of the tournament but FC Utrecht who are bottom of the group now cannot qualify for the last 32 and will be playing tonight purely for honour.

Liverpool however will be fielding a fairly strong side tonight with Fernando Torres, Dirk Kuyt and Glen Johnson all set to feature, they will be however without Captain Steven Gerrard who has just recovered from a hamstring injury and is believed to be making his full return in Liverpool’s next game in the Premier League against Fulham. This will be Hodgson’s reply to the poor result at the weekend against Newcastle, a win will be needed to appease the fans and board.

Liverpool v FC Utrecht match odds

All odds for this game come courtesy of bookmakers Betfred.

  • 4/9 – Liverpool win
  • 6/1 – FC Utrecht win
  • 10/3 – Draw

The bookmakers Betfred are offering punters some enhanced odds of the first goal scorer market on this game. Should you back a player that scores the first goal and then goes onto to score again then Betfred will double your first goal scorer price, should he then score again in the match and claim a hat trick your odds will be tripled!

The most likely player to score first for Liverpool is Fernando Torres who is showing at odds of 5/2, for FC Utrecht it is Ricky Van Wolfswinkel who is at odds of 8/1.

Will an English act win the best new artist at the 53rd Grammy’s?

December 15, 2010

The 53rd Grammy Awards are set to take place at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles (where Michael Jackson’s public memorial service was held) on 13th February 2011 and it will be shown live across the world.

English artists have done quite well in the best new artist category in recent years, with singer songwriter Adele winning it it in 2009 and troubled singer Amy Winehouse walking away with the 2008 award.

This year out of the five nominated act, two of them hail from England; the indie rock band Florence and the Machine and folk rock band Mumford & Sons. However good they may they are up against American teenage singing sensation Justin Bieber, thankfully the award is given by members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences not screaming teenage girls! Other nominated acts include Canadian singer Drake (a former cast member of Degrassi: The Next Generation) and finally American jazz bassist and singer Esperanza Spalding.

A win for Florence & the Machine would make up for losing out to The XX in the 2010 Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize.

2011 Grammy’s Best New Artist

Odds for this category come from bookmakers Paddy Power.

  • 7/4 – Florence & The Machine
  • 5/2 – Mumford & Sons
  • 11/4 – Esperanza Spalding
  • 4/1 – Drake
  • 9/2 – Justin Bieber
