Sunderland given slight edge in betting odds to win in tonight’s clash against Everton

November 22, 2010

Sunderland have had an excellent run of form which has seen the Black Cats go unbeaten in their last three matches in the Barclays Premier League.  They will be looking to continue this run tonight when they welcome Everton to the Stadium of Light.

Steve Bruce’s side are more than likely to be still in shock over their demolition of title contenders Chelsea last week at Stamford Bridge, where they took all three points off Chelsea with an amazing 3-0 win. Since that match Chelsea have gone on to defeat at the hand of Birmingham City and have left the race for the title wide open, when they should have on paper walked away with all 6 points from their last two matches.

A win for Sunderland tonight could see them reaching a top 5 place if they can manage to bang in five or more goals tonight whilst keeping a clean sheet, but realistically a win would only take them up to 6th place overtaking Spurs. However Sunderland have failed to beat Everton in the two teams last twelve outings, but they will be bolstered by the return of striker Darren Bent who is set to come back into the squad for the first time since he was sidelined by a hamstring stain back in October.

Sunderland v Everton match odds

  • 13/8 – Sunderland win
  • 11/5 – Draw
  • 9/5 – Everton win

Harry Redknapp’s team are one of a bunch in the Premiership that are crowding the top half of the table on similar points if they win they could be looking at going into the top four but a loss or two could see them leapfrogged by teams that are currently languishing in the bottom half of the Barclays Premier League table.

World Cup 2018 host nation odds

November 18, 2010

The footballing community is just gearing up for the 2012 European Championship which does not actually kick off for another two years, but already the various footballing Federations that make up FIFA are already putting in their bids to host the 2018 World Cup. FIFA will be announcing its decision on what Country will be given the honour of hosting the World Cup in 2018 and 2022 in Zurich in December this year after spending six months analysing the proposals from each of the countries involved and in turn visiting the locations.

Each country that has wanted to bid to host the tournament has now handing very big bid books in to FIFA, England’s tiny 1,752-page bid book was handed over by former England captain David Beckham to FIFA president Sepp Blatter. The bid book contain outlines of what venues will be used and what infrastructure is in place and what will be need to be developed to enable a successful World Cup, on top of this they must indicate how much it would cost to host and how much income would be generated. With this in mind England will have a very good chance as the 2010 and 2014 World Cups are taking place in emerging markets where income is not guaranteed unlike in a European country where football is part of everyday life.

Set backs for potential host nations

England were looking the favourites to be chosen as the host nation for the 2018 World Cup but recent investigations by newspapers into the bidding process has rumoured to have harmed England’s bid.  Some FIFA delegates fear they are being persecuted by elements in the English press amid allegations that have been made in the Sunday Times that two executive committee members involved in the process had accepted bribes.

The two FIFA delegates Amos Adamu and Reynald Temarii have today (18th November 2010) have been banned from football activities for 3 years and 1 year respectiviely.

Russia were also dealt a blow to their chances of staging a world cup when details of operational risks were leaked that has graded Russia’s a medium risk with England and Spain and Portugal’s bid both graded as low risks in terms of infrastructure that is in place

Who will host the 2018 World Cup?

There are high hopes that England will again be chosen to host the tournament having only done so on one previous occasion in 1966, and we all know what happened there! Whatever the result we can be guaranteed that the 2018 World Cup will take place on European soil, the only variant will be the temperature.

In case her on screen antics are genuine the producers of the show have jetted over some new celebrities in case Gillian walks and to bolster the show, on they way are comedians Dom Joly and Jenny Eclair along with This Morning’s Alison Hammond who of course is no stranger to reality television having been part of Big Brother 2002.
