September 22, 2010
In what could be a giant killing exercise (or a massive drubbing) when Championship side Scunthorpe take on the mighty Premiership side and current Carling Cup holders Manchester United in the 3rd round of the Carling Cup in a game that comes from Scunthorpes Glanford Park ground which has a capacity of just over 9,000.
United are expected to field Michael Owen up front but is expected to rest the bulk of his side for this fixture while Scunthorpe’s caretaker manager Ian Baraclough may be without defender Rob Jones who is nursing a knee injury on top of Jim McNulty and Garry Thompson who is out until November.
Scunthorpe v Manchester United match odds
It is no real surprise that Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are the favourites to win this fixture, but they have come unstuck in the past back in 2007 they lost this same fixture 2-0 when they were beaten by Championship side Coventry City.
Cash back offer
Bookmakers Bet Fred are running a cash back offer on this third round clash by offering punters the chance to get their stake money back on first and last goal scorer bets if Manchester United’s Michael Owen scores the last goal of the game.

The two teams have met each other seven times in the League Cup, and four of these fixtures were in the semi finals.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp will be expected to field Niko Kranjcar, Wilson Palacios and even new signing Sandro in his squad even though Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said he will continue his policy of playing his youngsters in the competition although due to injuries he is thought to be playing Marouane Chamakh.
