Is Matt Smith going to be replaced as the Doctor?

June 30, 2010

Rumblings in the television world are hinting that the BBC are not completely happy with the performance of the latest series of cult science fiction series Dr. Who and could be looking to replace Matt Smith with a bigger named actor. Viewing figures for the latest series of Who averaged around 5 million views and the series epic finale “The Big Bang” pulled in a total of 5.09 million viewer down by 5 million on that of the rebooted shows 10.81 million opening “Rose” episode. However it may not be completely bad news for the shows current chief Steven Moffat as he was up against a World Cup match on ITV and the way that viewers watch TV has changed dramatically over the last few years. Many viewers no longer watch the program “live” so extra viewers come in from the likes of BBC iplayer and PVR devices such as Sky+.

When newcomer Matt Smith was cast as the Doctor there was quite a lot of speculation that he would only last the series but despite the lower overnight viewing figures he seems to have been accepted by the Who faithful and internet chatter about him not being as good as David Tennant have subsided. Bookmakers William Hill are placing Matt Smith on odds of 1/8 for Smith to play the Doctor for a second series and 9/2 to be ousted from the role.

Next Doctor Who odds

Odds are supplied by William Hill, the list has the all the usual suspects we would discount Robert Carlyle as he is currently in his own Stargate Universe television show, we doubt a female would be cast and at 12/1 James Nesbitt could be a good place to look.

  • 4/1 – David Morrissey
  • 5/1 – Chiwetel Ejiofor
  • 8/1 – Next Doctor To Be Female
  • 10/1 – Patterson Joseph
  • 12/1 – James Nesbitt
  • 14/1 – Robert Carlyle
  • 14/1 – David Walliams

  • 14/1 – Tom Ellis
  • 20/1 – John Simm
  • 20/1 – Rhys Ifans
  • 20/1 – Anthony Head

If Capello is to leave the England job who should replace him as head coach?

June 29, 2010

Now that the England team have returned to home soil the post tournament autopsy is being continued, Capello is being accused of making poor decisions over team selection and tired old formations during the actual tournament, however people were not that vocal when he was winning matches on the lead up to the competition. He played the so called Golden Generation of players who must know that their days of playing for England are numbered as their age and younger players catching up with them. It will be the last World Cup for the likes of John Terry, Rio Ferdinand and David James with newer faces starting to emerge like Glen Johnson and James Milner.

Capello will be facing flak for not including in the squad the younger players such as Theo Walcott and Leighton Baines and relying on old “past it players” like Jamie Carragher and Emile Heskey, of late Japan have scored more goals for England than Heskey has.

The names being banded about to replace Capello are surprising name that have been associated with England on past occasion but were deemed to be too old school, men like Harry Redknapp and Roy Hodgson are two of those in past years they have been put aside for flashy foreign manager and could be that the Football Association look towards placing an Englishman as head of the national team.

Next England Manager odds

With the back pages dominated by hacks wanting Fabio Capello to be replaced and to have a new manager in place for England’s next tie who will be be brought in to replace him should he go? All odds have been supplied by Sky Bet.

  • 7/4 – Harry Redknapp
  • 11/4 – Roy Hodgson
  • 11/2 – Martin O’Neill
  • 10/1 – Sam Allardyce
  • 10/1 – David Beckham

Higuain leading the pack to be the World Cup top goal scorer

June 29, 2010

All over England betting slips lay torn up and discarded on the floors of betting shops and punters have seen their sure fire certs go by the wayside as the hundreds of thousands of pounds that backed England striker to win the World Cup Golden Boot now line the accounts of the bookmakers. In what should have been the football equivalent of shooting fish in a barrel Wayne Rooney failed to score a solitary goal for his England side.

However if you were wise enough to look past the England squad and looked at the South American players early on in the tournament you may have struck a bargain as the current leading goal scorer at the tournament is Argentinean Gonzalo Higuain who was well over odds of 50/1 to be top goal scorer and Germany’s Thomas Mueller was not in the top ten to gain the golden boot.

World Cup top goal scorer odds

Odds are supplied by Paddy Power and the goal scorers current tally is listed in brackets.

  • 9/4 – Gonzalo Higuain(4 goals)
  • 22/1 – Thomas Mueller (3 goals)
  • 3/1- David Villa (3 goals)
  • 10/3 – Luis Fabiano (3 goals)
  • 14/1 – Luis Suarez (3 goals)

Govan favourite to be ousted from the Big Brother house tonight

June 25, 2010

Apparently around the UK there are households that are not watching the exciting World Cup but are in fact actually watching the last ever (we shall see) series of standard Big Brother. Viewing figures for this years show have seen an increase of 400,000 compared to last years show, the opening show of the series pulled in around 4.5 million viewers, it could be that Channel 4 have a change of heart and renew or let it go over to the likes of Channel 5 or Sky1.

The Big Brother house will be losing its second contestant tonight and all early indicators are pointing to Govan to be removed from the house. Out of the four contestants up for eviction tonight Govan has proved to be the least liked by the viewers and his ability to pick a fight with an empty room just adds to the list of his traits.
