Will penalties be Englands failing at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa

May 31, 2010

England fans are clearly disappointed in the result yesterday when England took on Japan in their final pre World Cup friendly. The result may have gone England’s way (England won 2-1) but the fact that Japan had scored all the goals in game (including 2 own goals) soured the result. If this is how we play against a fairly mediocre team, who are currently placed 45 in the FIFA rankings system compared to England’s number 8 position.

Another major disappointment from the match was the failing of midfielder Frank Lampard to score from the spot. The Chelsea player was denied by Japan’s keeper Eiji Kawashima who saved the penalty that was awarded in the 10th minute of the second half following Keisuke Honda’s handball in the area. Whether Lampard will be the choice take penalties in the World Cup will be a decision England head coach Fabio Capello must seriously consider.

May 31, 2010

The fun part of ITV1s talent show Britain’s Got Talent has now finished and we no longer get to see the auditions of the criminally insane as the show now moves onto the live semi finals and gets a tad more serious. Last night the judges chose 40 acts from the 200 that they had given call back from the first round. Over the next five weeks the remaining acts will compete against each other and the winner from each of the 5 semi finals will then go on to perform in the live final.

Of all the acts that have been shown, one has stood out from the normal crowd of opera singers and street dancers and that is the Gymnastic act Spellbound who wowed the audience and judging panel (even hard face Simon Cowell) with their jaw dropping gymnastic act, they have also become an internet sensation on You Tube gaining millions of views.

Will Millwall prevail in the League One play off final?

May 29, 2010

Tension is high in the Millwall squad as they head off for Wembley Stadium for the second year running to take part in the League One play off final. A win here for Millwall will end their four year absence from the Championship. Just 12 months ago at Wembley a goal from Scunthorpe in the 85th minute meant a 3-2 defeat for Millwall which kept the Lions in the third tear of English football.

However facing Kenny Jackett’s side is an invigorated Swindon side who at the start of the season were looking more at heading to the opposite end of the table after being beaten 5-0 by the likes of Gillingham. In the play off finals against Charlton they were 2-0 down and by 60 minutes were reduced to 10 men but managed to come back and win the game on penalties.

Millwall be boosted by their last game against Swindon which was the last game of the season for both teams which resulted in a 3-2 win for Millwall against Danny Wilson’s Robins.

Who will replace U2 at this years Glastonbury Festival?

May 26, 2010

Music fans around the UK will be very disappointed to hear that U2′s front man Bono (real name Paul David Hewson) has had to undergo emergency surgery on his back to save him from possible paralysis leaving him out of action for at least 2 month, which has resulted in U2 having to cancel all of their North American tour and their headline spot on June 25th at this years Glastonbury Festival in the United Kingdom. The three day festival is attended annually by over 170,000 music fans and was last year headlined by Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Blur.

Fans to the 2010 festival will still be able to enjoy the musical expertise of Muse and Stevie Wonder but it now looks like Dizzee Rascal who was the second highest act on the Friday night bill will be promoted to the headline act, however some people will not believe that Mr. Rascal is big enough to step into the shoes of U2 as a headline act and that a big act will be brought in to replace them but as the show is only just over 3 weeks away time is of the essence.

Azerbaijan still favourite to win the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest

May 25, 2010

This weekend sees the eagerly awaited 2010 Eurovision Song Contest which this year comes from the Telenor Arena in Oslo in Norway. Each year the contest is hosted by the previous years winner and last year Norway’s Alexander Rybak won with the song “Fairtytale”, he was favourite to win pretty much from the start of betting and this year it looks like being no different as Azerbaijan have been quoted as the favourites since betting opened with the song Drip Drop performed by the sultry Safura Alizade.

England’s chances of winning this year look very slim even though they are backed by the Pete Waterman written and produced song “It’s My Time” sung by the winner of You’re Country Needs You; Josh Dubovie, however the odds have come down somewhat from 100/1 and are now showing at odds of 66/1 but with the competition starting on Saturday night the odds are unlikely to come down any more, but for a £1 bet it might be worth a go!

May 21, 2010

Fabio Capello’s England side go out for their last friendly match on home soil against fellow World Cup qualifiers Mexico at Wembley Stadium on Monday 30th May before they jet off to the World Cup in South Africa. England are the clear favourites to beat Mexico in this international match but England fans will not just be looking at the overall result of the game but will be more interested in how the players are gelling as a team and if any weaknesses in the side are obvious for Fabio and his backroom staff to adjust in time for the World Cup.
