Friends Provident Final Betting Odds Can’t Seperate Sussex and Hampshire

July 24, 2009

Padddy Power’s betting odds for Saturday’s Friends Provident Trophy final at Lord’s can’t seperate the two team contesting the final, Sussex and Hampshire. The bookmaker go 5/6 about either side winning, both of whom have won the competition in recent years, Sussex in 2006 and Hampshire in 2005 and are lining up at Lord’s on the back of impressive performances in this year’s competition.

With the weather forecast predicting sun all day on Saturday, the chances of a full 100 overs are promising and judging by the wicket in the 2nd Ashes test last weekend, plenty of runs could be on the cards.

You can check out the full range of match odds for the Friends Provident trophy at Paddypower.com where you can also get a £30 free bet if you are a new customer.

King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes Betting Odds

July 21, 2009

The Sir Michael Stoute trained Conduit heads bookmakers betting odds for Saturday’s Group One, King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. Winner of last year’s St Leger, Conduit has had just two runs this season, both at Sandown and both credable efforts with the latest a 4 1/2 length 3rd in the Coral Eclipse behind Guineas and Derby winner, Sea the Stars, form whichalone is strong enough to merit his generally available 7/4 price tag, with Coral the bravest of all bookies at a stand out 2/1. However, when you look at his last win which came on his final start in 2008, in the Breeders Cup Tuf in Santa Anita, together with his St Leger form,  it is difficult to mount a case for any of these rivals.

Rockhampton 200/1 @ Stan James Click here to bet

The closest rival to Conduit in the betting is another Stoute trained horse in the form of  Tartan Bearer who is a best priced 4/1 chance with Ladbrokes and Paddy Power. Also a four year old like his stablemate, Tartan Bearer looked close to recapturing his best form, a second in the 2008 Derby behind New Approach at Royal Ascot in June when he second to Vision D’Etat in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes. However, unlike Conduit, a Group One success still eludes Tartan Bearer but if things fall right, that could end on Saturday.

Last year’s Oaks winner, Look Here, poses the biggest threat of a filly winning the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Judged on her previous two runs this season, her latest of which was in conditions that were far from ideal in the Group one Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh but still finished a respectable third gives this Ralph Beckett runner a great chance and at 7/1 makes sound each way appeal.

Odds are against Shamrock Rovers as they take on Real Madrid and Ronaldo

July 20, 2009

Tonight the £80 million pound player Cristiano Ronaldo is set to make his debut for Real Madrid against the mighty Shamrock Rover. Real Madrid are using the fixture as a warm up match ready for the new season as part of a 10 day tour of Ireland.

The match is set to be a sell out, Shamrocks ground only has a 3,500 capacity and is expected to fit in an extra 10,000 in temporary seating.  Shamrock Rovers may be the most prominent teams in Irish football they have only just secured their own ground this season after spending 22 years without a home of their own, having to rent ground year by year but thanks to a takeover by a supporters’ group they have become an excellent business model for other Irish clubs and have use of municipal stadium.

It’s no surprise that Madrid are the favourites to win this match and are at odds of 1/8 for an away win, a home win for Shamrock Rovers is attracting odds of 14/1 and 6/1 for a draw. The odds on Ronaldo to score during the game are quite low (surprisingly!).

Odds on Ronaldo scoring

  • 4/9 – Anytime goal scorer
  • 11/4 – First goal scorer
  • 11/4 – Last goal scorer
  • 11/5 – First to score for their team

If the Madrid wonder Ronaldo scores then Paddy Power will refund all losing first and last goalscorer as well as correct score and scorecast singles placed on the game.
